That boss annoyed me no end, basically when he charges up to use the attack use the paradigm "tri-disaster", hit him with everything you've got and just before you stagger him he'll groan and the attack will do less than half the damage it would do normally.

use Sen/Med/Med after he charges, he makes a grunting noise 5 sec before he casts.
Soak up the dam and go rav rav com/rav while hes charging. stagger him a couple and throw odin in .

I only used summons mainly when I was on the verge of death so they would heal everyone in my party, they can also get you that Limit Breaker trophy, I had Bahamut do 300k of damage to get me that.

So I've tried going through some monster hunt missions to squeeze a bit more life out of the game but I just can't stand that sort of thing, I did like 7 of them and had to turn it off, its so boring! All I wanted to do was ride a chocobo but I'd need to do like another 7 missions! I wish there were some extra things to do in the game other than hunts.

 Yeah it's definitely something you either want to do, or you just don't.

Personally i like them, oh and i've managed to deal 99,999 damage with Snow several times but i can't break the 100k barrier. There's one you should definitely fight, mission 55 which is on top of the school in Oerba.

But to get chocobo's is quite easy, usually the early missions have battles right next to the next cie'th stone. Once you get a trophy for doing a certain amount, there should be a stone active in the middle of the map at the bottom (where the entrance to the landing site is) near a mark on the map that the map calls "blockage". Do that mission, it's piss easy, and then walk through the blockage and you'll find your chocobos. You should have to do 14 in all, i think, to get the chocobo.

And it's always going to be chock-a-bow to me, not choke-a-bow.

FFXIII Director Wants To Remake Final Fantasy VII

500x_ff7techdemo.jpg

Here we go again! Final Fantasy developer Square Enix continuing mentioning "Final Fantasy VII" and "remake" in the same breath.

Previously, Final Fantasy VII character designer mentioned the prospects of a FFVII remake, and then FFVII game director Yoshinori Kitase mentioned how he was never tired of answering questions about FFVII remakes. Now?

When asked by game site Siliconera which game FFXIII director Motomu Toriyama would want to remake, he replied, "That would be Final Fantasy VII!"

"If we had the manpower and the time to work on a project, if we were to remake Final Fantasy VII with the quality of Final Fantasy XIII it would become a tremendous project," Toriyama continued. "If we can get the number of people we need by all means that would be the one I would really want to remake."

In 2006, Square Enix released a "technical demo" depicting Final Fantasy VII as it would look in the PlayStation 3. The game was originally released on the PlayStation 1 in 1997.

For those that have never seen the tech demo from some 3 years ago.

Thanks for posting the demo, Weaste. :)
I've seen it before, but it was ages ago.

I'm very torn on this issue -- for me VII was such a classic I'd hate to see a remake, like trying to recreate Cantona or something.
Impossible & silly.

Another part of me would love to play VII on the PS3.
It's the evil, childish part of me. ;)

Tetsuya Nomura, director of the upcoming Final Fantasy Versus XIII, has confirmed that the PlayStation 3 exclusive outing will feature a world map and airships.

“Not everything is connected together, so the various areas have different levels of progress. However, you can fly across the world map in an air ship,” said Nomura, during a Twitter interview with Square’s Shinji Yoshimoto.

Unfortunately, Nomura was unable to divulge any further details on the project, stating, “I’m being stopped by producer Hashimoto,” he said.

Fingers crossed the game shows up at E3, though don’t be surprised if it doesn’t put in an appearance on account of recent changes made during development.

We’ll keep you posted.

Versus XIII to have world map & airship, says Nomura -- PlayStation Universe

I would sacrifice puppies and kittens for a VII remake.

Although it would have to be like the original, not like XIII where there is no towns or world map to explore, they'd just have to find a way to do it.

Gamasutra - News - FFXIII Achieves 1 Million-Unit Five-Day Sales

Final Fantasy XIII, the latest installment in Square Enix's seminal franchise, has sold over one million units in North America in its first five days -- the company says it's the biggest first-week performance in franchise history.

Final Fantasy XIII, notably released on Xbox 360 in addition to PlayStation 3 in Western markets, launched on March 9. The publisher said it sold-in five million units worldwide for initial shipment -- bringing global shipments of the Final Fantasy series as a whole up to 96 million units. By comparison, Square Enix's major Dragon Quest series has shipped only 53 million units worldwide.

In Japan, where the game is still PS3-exclusive, FFXIII launched December 17 and sold 1.8 million units by the end of 2009 -- 1.5 million of those in its first week alone. Despite releasing at the end of the year, it was the fifth top-selling game of 2009 in the country.

The Final Fantasy series debuted on the NES/Famicom in 1987, and through all its installments and spin-offs it's become one of the most recognizable RPG franchises -- certainly, the most recognizable Japanese RPG franchise -- in the West, enjoying a famously fervent fan base.

This may be why the release has achieved major sales numbers despite a tepid reception from critics, many of whom complained the game is too linear and lamented the lack of traditional series elements such as towns.

I wonder what the split was? In the UK is was 54/46 for PS3/XB360. Large numbers will mean that they will try to shoehorn Versus onto the XB360 I'm sure, disc swapping or not.

Hot on the heels of Final Fantasy XIII director Motomu Toriyama saying that he’d love to remake Final Fantasy VII, Square Enix boss Yoichi Wada has given fans just a bit more hope that it may happen.

Siliconera interviewed the President and CEO who said, “Right now we don’t have a clear direction, but many fans have requested we remake Final Fantasy VII. We’re going to explore the possibility – whether or not we’re going to do it, if we’re going to do it, and the platform.”

Not a confirmation, but at least an indication that the company is considering it. And let’s be honest, when considering a remake of what is probably the most beloved RPG of all time, how can Mr. Wada not see dollar signs? Decision made.

Please be true!

The ending for 13 is a bit... confusing. Not quite sure how what happens happened and they don't go into much detail, the best way i've found of fiding more about the backstory is doing the side misions. Some of them unlock little pieces in the datalog that tell you about past events on Pulse.

I've started doing some grinding using Vanille's death trick, it's basically cheating but what the hey i've finished the game proper now, on the adamantoise's to try and fill out the crystarium and then finish off those other missions.

Not really a trick as such, but basically spamming death.

If you go back to Eden after the end of the game and go back through the door into an area with some guards, behemoths and an adamantoise in the background. Make sure you have Vanille as the leader and have enough tp to summon then fight the adamantoise.

Summon straight away and then the adamantoise will fall over, giving you about a minute and a half to spam death on it. It's a cheap way to level, but it's by far the quickest seeing as you get 80k a fight. Then if you walk through the door and back again it respawns.

The best team to use is Fang, Vanille and Hope and to have two saboteurs and a synergist.

I need quick answers.

I like RPG's, not sure about JRPG's. Is this worth buying?
If you like walking down very linear corridors, fighting repetative battles along the way, then being presented with a gorgeous cutscene and repeating for 40 hours XIII is the game for you!

That's what I thought the answer was. Cheers. Dragon Age it is.

I think the whole linear aspect is a bit misleading. There isn't much choice in the path you take to the final boss, as with most FF's. But during that there is still plenty to do in the way of upgrading characters, weapons and accessories. Also, The battles themseles aren't just a case of attack, attack and attack. There There are plenty of times I've had to change my team and use seemingly weaker characters.

I'd still recommend Dragon Age over it however.

am now getting back into this having put it on hold for GOW

not really spoilers but still, my thought atm
It's still not sucking me in like its predecessors, i've now started to skip some of the cut scenes as the storys quite boring imo. Snow and Hope in particular do my head in, i dont know if somethings been lost in translation but the dynamic between them (at this point anyway) is ridiculous, and Hopes such a whiny little feck, i want him to die. Shaft and Vanille are cool though, Vanille is such a prick tease i doubt any of us would've begrudged Shaft just taking some of that for himself when they slept together in the forest. My jurys still out on lightening and fang, at least they can hit hard.

Am totally to grips with the battle system now though and actually really like it, i'm looking forward to having full control over my team and its members. The boss battles are almost WOW like in the way you use different tactics and change the pace at different points, can really have you thinking at points.

I'm just up to the part where snow and hope fell off the building and snow has hobbled off carrying the little gayer

without giving too much away does it improve much after this point? the game play in particular i mean or have i seen pretty much all it has only it gets bigger in scale?

It gets a little bit better when they stop with the 2 person teams and let you pick your group, and you have to change your paradigms a little more often to heal and set things like haste, you need to pay a little more attention. And Chapter 11 sort of stops with the linear corridor dungeons if you're into monster hunting (i.e. run over here, beat monster, find next mission and run over there. repeated 60 something times). You can get through 99% of the fights mashing auto-attack/heal, then a boss comes along you'll have to think about things.

The part of the game you're up to felt like the biggest chore to me though, its quite an effort to get through the first 10 chapters I felt. It gets a bit better on the last couple of chapters though.

do you ever get full control of your team or does it stay as only having direct control over the leader and the others always auto act from the paradigm?

Final Fantasy IX PSN Announcement Coming by Friday
Will the final PlayStation Final Fantasy go downloadable?
by Anoop Gantayat

March 29, 2010 - It's looking likely that Square Enix will be following up on its PSN releases of Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VIII with a Final Fantasy IX release.

Producer Shinji Hashimoto has been keeping fans updated on developments relating to the FFIX download release via the Square Enix Members Twitter.

Last Friday, he said that due to the passion expressed by fans he'd be bringing up a possible release for the game at a coming board meeting. That meeting was held today.

According to Hashimoto, board members, recognizing that this year marks the 10th anniversary for FFIX, were in large part friendly to the idea of a PSN release. We can expect to hear the results of the board's debate on the matter by Friday.

But you get to select the leader and who makes up the team.

Most of the time, for me, it's Lightning, due to her eidolon. Using it is also the easiest or only way to get the 100 000+ damage trophy.

I've still got all the old discs, but i'll still download it so that when i one day get a psp i can play it on the move.

IX is a cracking game, I can't believe you haven't played it Elvis.

IX is a massive pile of wank.

The game was utterly ruined for me at the end when you completed the storyline and it went, "oh, quick, go through this portal into an uber-dimension and fight this God you've never seen before because he wants to wipe everyone the feck out!". I was sat there open-mouthed at the sheer ludicrousness of it all.

IX has its moments, but not many of them. Probably the weakest since 7 if you dont include the MMO, 11. Which wasnt that great, but they took some of the MMO-like features and put them into 12 which was quite nice.

Yes, but up until that it was excellent I thought.

The speed of the battle system spoils IX a little bit, even when you get haste late on its still way to slow.

An FFVII remake might just be the most mouth watering prospect ever. I mean, ok.. on one hand it's still an amazing game, despite the dated graphics and combat system it doesn't need to be remade...

But to have it remade and looking as nice as games do nowadays with a reinvented combat system and voice acting thrown in... Oh man...

 Give over, you totally wipe out the rest of the game for that?

The world is great, the story (bar that) is engaging and it's a throw back to the old games. A great skill system, a pretty addictive chocobo sidequest and lots of other sidequests.

That bit aside (which did annoy me for a short while, but then i remembered the rest of it) it's a great game and one of my favourites.

No, no, no, no, no!

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. All I want is HD graphics and voice acting, and better translation.
