Just beat Odin, after the 4th attempt. This final fantasy is very tactically orientated, more than the others were anyways.

Certainly is indeed. I'm enjoying it, even though I am dying a lot more often than I usually do in FF's. In fact I rarely die in past FF's anymore, I even went in and fought the Emerald Weapon on FFVII without the underwater materia and beat it! Without KOTR too, I was pretty proud.

But yeah, if you go into a battle with the wrong tactics or Paradigms, then you're going to struggle. It's good in that way.

I don't like the way that if the main character KO's, that's it. I think that is what has made it more difficult.

I think because of how the battle system is in XIII, it makes sense to only give you control over one character, otherwise it would be clusterfecked to hell. Allow that character to die and it should be game over.

And this is a brilliant game! Does take some going, about 4 or 5 hours, but once you get into it it's fantastic.

Elvis is right, the game is picking up after a slow start. Just give me a full party!

The boss at the end of Chapter 5 is hard, I'm blaming it on my tiredness rather than my inefficiencies as a gamer.

What chapter are you upto Richter?

Anyway, I don't think that it's the linear aspect that's bothering you, it's this funny decision they made to make a 20 hour tutorial.

This tutorial isn't how you would imagine, it's not like the game stops you every 5 minutes to introduce you to something new. Just that when something new does pop up, whether it be the Eidolons, Paradigms, or the Crystorium, the game will explain to you how to use them properly. In fact I've been surprised at just how little 'tutorial' there is considering it was made kind a big deal of in a lot of previews.

Some complaints about it being linear, no levelling up when you beat enemies, no buying armory etc... :nervous:

This is misleading, really. Linear yes, no doubt about that but it is meant to open up after around Chapter 10/11, so we can look forward to that.

No levelling up like 7 or 8 when you beat enemies, but akin to X and gaining Sphere Levels when you beat enemies, in XIII you get CP points, which can then be used to make your character more powerful using the Crystorium.

And you can buy armour (Accessories I should say), but you also have the option of levelling it up to make it more powerful (Same with weapons). Again, slightly similar to X where you could customise your weapons and armour. Difference being you don't know what the effect will be when you do upgrade it.

I'm at chapter 9. It's starting to get difficult I might need to improve my chars a bit.

I do like that the difficult continues. Certainly adds a more challenging aspect to the game. The only enemies you really struggled with in past FF's were the Weapons/Dark Aeons, so the fact the general game is more difficult is good, in my opinion.

When was the last time that Lambs was confirmed to be still breathing?

A long time ago. I have him on Facebook though, I may drop him a bell.

The boss at the end of Chapter 9 is a dick. Tedious time consuming bullshit, and I barely even feeling like I'm participating in the fight, just mashing X and occasionally switching the paradigms when someone is low on health.

Have you beaten him? That destrudo attack kills my main everytime...

Yeah just switch to relentless assault (1 commando and 2 ravagers) or something very attacking once he starts charging it, if you do enough damage it seems to delay him firing it and it does a lot less damage, he lets out some sort of roar/groan so you'll know if you've done it.

Ah ok read something similar at other forums. Will try it later.

I'm just past Odin now. Lightning is easily the most powerful character, Sazh is very funny but he's under-powered to feck.

Finally beat him. Full hp everytime and relentless did the job:D

Got to Chapter 11 and I think things have just opened up finally. If nothing else the scenery is a lot nicer than just linear corridors to walk down. Although unfortunately it seems the sidequests you can do are just like XII's Mark Hunts, which I hated.

FFS. Stupid little mini-boss in chapter 11 giving me grief, after about 10 attempts I finally killed it but he has some minions and they killed Lightning 5 seconds later so I have to do it again. Its stupid that if your party leader dies its game over.

Wooh the mobs are a bit harder in chapter 11. Getting my ass kickd by everyone....

It's a fecking bitch! I've had one attempt so far but I think I know were I've gone wrong. Gonna have to alter my paradigms for this fight.

The cutscene at the beginning of Chapter 12 is amazing. Going to need to youtube that to watch it again. When Square did that CG FF movie it should have been like that cutscene.

Can you still explore Pulse in chapter 12? I'm on chapter 11 and am going round doing the Cie'th stone missions, loving the new chocobo music.

Can't kill this bloody saghain thing that's got it's little mates around. It's in the chocobo area, don't know if that's the one you were talking about earlier.

On Eidolon fights, make sure you use all your classes and all different attacks. Once you've hit it with certain attacks the bar will fill quicker if you then blast it with your normal strategy.

I can't remember what the thing is for Shiva but i think it was sentinel.

Chapter 12 is another linear dungeon and not on Pulse, but I've just gotten to the start of Chapter 13 and you can return to Pulse there and do any sidequests you want before moving into the final dungeon.
