The Fifth Redcafe Sheep Draft

Nice to wake up to a pass. I'll take that!

Wow, I think I probably played that too safely, but I'm happy to get the player that I wanted.

I wonder about the manager(s) who'll get a player with a receding hairline...

You have Zico.
We have Titus Bramble.
We don't want the rich to get richer and poor to get poorer do we?

On another note, you all do realise now why sheep drafts -in particular- need an iron fist? Anything even remotely controversial gets jumped on. It's key to remove any room for exercising judgement, but participants excel at finding new grey areas..

I disagree. Its specifically because you came in unnecessarily strict that the inconsistencies and mistakes were amplified.
  • The mods did not even ask for clarification on the Goal movie evidence instead deciding to punish with sheep despite it actually being a valid pick.
  • The mods pre-approved Edgar's GOAT pick despite it being an invalid pick based on the specifics you were arguing in thread.
This is why its better to be a wee bit more mellow and not rule with an iron fist. Most important thing is consistency.

Guys must have researched every bald footballer out there by now ,what's the hold up?

We handed out yellows left, right and centre that round. Going forward evidence was crucial and here we had a second yellow in the turn immediately after the first. You let that fly and you have no right getting strict after.

Same as with games and refs letting them get out of hand. There's been 0 yellows since. We even had @KM with a brilliant piece of AMing noticing prath hadn't sent the link to Ince and Irwin playing for United

We were largely arguing game links being necessary evidence. In fact, this case highlights why you need them as CR and Ruud spent 6 MONTHS together and only took part in one game, albeit not symultaneously. I actually wonder if that was due to bad blood from United days and not just injuries.

GS and Sjor's take was participating in the same game and contributing to the result of that game (incidentally, both scored) was fine.

It was a grey area in between what the two of us were discussing (playing vs being in a squad). Had I been around I would have suggested a repick to be on the safe side, but I wasn't, comes with the terrain if you want things now but have mods scattered across the globe.

Bottomline is, if something is borderline/grey area ASK. In some cases we may say "Rules are clear", others we will be more forthcoming (e.g. levels of baldness), but if we think they may not be we will communicate to all.

How many left to pick?
About to hit the bed...don’t want to look for bald spots tomorrow as well.

Yes. Raees gave the link after they failed. If the mods simply asked for clarification or said need more proof as they did with you then it wouldn't have been an issue. That's why I said there was inconsistency

It's curious because IMDB does not have it. I watched that movie and don't recall seeing Cannavaro. Maybe it was a stock video (a real game of Cannavaro being used for film) which won't count.

I haven't seen the movies so I can't really comment. That criteria would have been awful for me as I am not really a movie watcher, much more into Netflix and HBO TV shows. Friend told me about a cool new German show Dark I just started binge watching while working from home today :wenger:

My missus was binge watching this over the weekend as well. Caught a couple of episodes here and there. Both of us didn't like it. So many plotholes, shitty acting and overall mediocrity.

For sci-fi shows, Canadians rule!

Should've picked someone from Cuervos then

@oneniltothearsenal have you watched Spectral?

I have not is it good? Also any specific Canadian show? I don't think I have seen many from Canada.

Should've picked someone from Cuervos then

That's next on my list actually

Not shows but a short movie. Watch Spectral and Arq. Very good sci-fi for that budget.

Cool I'll check those out and let you know. Also did you happen to watch Dark with English audio? My friend is German and said to make sure to watch in German audio with subtitles. I know from watching a lot of Chinese/Korean shows that the acting always sounds far worse when other languages are dubbed over the original.

We watched in English.

It depends. I've seen shows with both voiceover and subtitles and have good and bad in either. In general, I prefer seeing in original language with subtitles.

There was no inconsistency. EAP asked if a certain scenario would be ok, was told yes, then he told us his picks with supporting evidence.

Had Raees provided that link he would have been fine. He was on a yellow and should have, that's the whole point of having such a thing as a yellow card. Guess what? No yellows since. Go figure.

While we are talking consistency, a big reason to enforce that was the whole Moby think started because he tried change a pick and was overruled on the same rationale: can't start having leeway or rules are unenforceable.

Funny thing is, his attempted change (push T2 pick to T3 and pick different in T2) was known to us to 100% deliver sheep so it wasn't a case of screwing him, very much the opposite. In the end he kept the T2 and used the other in T3 so still got sheep anyway.

We are online so a pick will be submitted very quickly

But we’ve been instructed not to ask in PMs, then missed turns for innocuous stuff in the thread, then EAP gets rewarded twice over for asking in PM (once by getting access to a GOAT denied to the rest of us, twice by not getting punished for breaking a rule).

Not that I envy running a sheep draft, it’s a minefield and there’s pressure coming in from all angles. And the more interesting you make it, the more scope for meltdowns as we tangle over the minutiae.

I understand people's frustrations with the whole EAP pick thing, but let's just move forward and from now on there can be no deviating from the rules laid out.

Obviously rounds like this are open to interpretation but mainly just read the criteria and stick to it lol

This is getting a bit ott now.

The rule on asking in thread clearly says "where possible". There are certain queries which would make the underlying player immediately obvious. For example, having a country restriction and posting a query on Suriname. Everyone knows which set of players the query refers to. Since my query has only one possible pick pair, I'd have to be mental to post that in the thread. May as well post the names and get a penalty.

There was no rule breaking anywhere except in your imagination. There was a difference in opinion between the mods and that led to the situation. Stop making it out as if I somehow pulled a fast one here.

If people are going to have issues all through, I'm happy to step away so that rest of you can have a relaxed draft.

That's largely about general clarifications. You often find the same question being asked by all managers, makes more sense to clear it up once on the main thread.

Sometimes the question completely gives away your pick though, we are not expecting those to be made public. That's why it says "post on main thread where possible".

It's impossible to draw a line in the sand across all questions though, not without making it all a bit dull or one dimensional. This one is an obvious example, but conversely if we had one about red cards in WC knockout stages there's zero reason to ask anything (but posting the evidence is essential, which it clearly isn't for Paolo and Cesare Maldini being related).

I think we are getting into the swing of things though. Links are getting sent religiously (we had 10 yellows in R2, none since) and naming unpicked players has been phased out now there's loads that can be named (was harder before with everyone unpicked, hard to have a football draft without talking about the cast).

Mind, some are getting a bit OTT sending their entire shortlist photo album, but the next round should bring us back to normal clearcut stuff.

I'm usually all over @Edgar Allan Pillow and his shenanigans and trying to pull a fast one, but I don't see anything he did wrong here.

As for the mods, it's a thankless job in and of itself. When I ran mine, you constantly run the risk of pissing off one person while trying to make it fair and keep it fun. I remember half the people loved certain aspects whereas others complained all along the way.

Unfortunately some things sometimes work out in a way that may seem biased, but in this case, none of the mods actually like Edgar, so I don't see a bias in his favour.
