The F1 Thread 2014 Season

How can someone not like Riccardo!! He is just brilliant, acts very likable too..

Great to see another car other than the mercs win again..

Glad he stood his ground there, would have lost a podium place if he had moved over.
I meant earlier, when he was asked by his team.

Anyway, rain made the race great, otherwise I don't think anyone could've touched Rosberg.

 Hamilton wasn't ever going to let Rosberg past was he? That situation might have gone nuclear if he had let him through earlier, Mercedes still aren't great when it comes to strategy are they, miss old wily Ross Brawn.

Cracking race. Well done to Riccardo, can't helpp but love his smile. Good to see a car that isn't a Mercedes winning. Really good from Hamilton to turn what was looking like dropped points to Rosberg into actually closing the gap a bit instead.

Toto talking bollocks again. Says if Hamilton let Rosberg past he would have won...........yeah and what good does that do for Hamilton? Are they not fighting for a title, Mercedes are going to win both titles anyway. Horse shit, Lauda will hopefully tell him he is talking such.

Rosberg looks pissed off  Turns into whiny fecker when things don't go his way.

I thought what he said was fine. He was pretty impartial, and pointed out that it would have cost Lewis points in the championship.

Lauda just said in German TV that Hamilton was right to stay ahead. Rosberg never came close enough to go past Hamilton and it makes no sense that Hamilton has to slow down and lose time there.

Thank god Niki is in that team.

Unless someone can correct me Nico was never close enough to even make a pass. The moment Nico called the radio to ask "why isn't he letting me pass" Nico was over a second behind. Lewis isn't going to slow down for 2 seconds let him pass. If Lewis was holding Nico up, blocking every pass I could understand this discussion but he never did.

he never got close, Lewis would of had to slow down and lose over a second.

no differant to Lewis.
Both want to win and both go into moods when things dont go their way, if it was the other way round, there is no way Nico would of let Lewis though.
They're not going to help each other out, don't know why Rosberg was radio asking about it in the first place, if needs to pass a driver to make his strategy work then he should attack the car in the front.

People wondering why Hamilton looks a bit miffed, pretty simple answer really isn't it. If you are at one point in the race ahead of your teammate on the road and as a net result, how did he end up in a situation right at the end where he is fending him off on the last lap? He's probably thinking if I let him past when they told me, I would have lost to Rosberg today through no fault of my own.

Critical thing for me was Vergne, Robserg couldn't pass him and Hamilton did. Merc were out of order asking Hamilton to let Rosberg pass, let them race and let them make their own calls with their own pit crews, this level of micro-management is pissing me off now with respect to F1. Drivers have to be told everything.

I said when he was ahead of Nico he should have just come in and put on some soft tyres. Priority number one should have been to finish ahead of Nico at that point, not worry about what Riccardo and Alonso were doing. It would have put pressure on the pit stop being perfect, but given that he was already a second or two ahead of Nico and could have pushed faster on the hard tyres, I think he would have had a better chance at winning as well.

one thing today's race has done for Lewis is , is save his season.
He had a fantastic drive today and did the impossible , he got more points than Nico, yes he was helped by the first SC but that's racing.
30+ points behind would of been a massive mountain to climb for him, 11 points is nothing.
The season is still on course to be settled by the double pointer, which I dont think is good for F1.

I'm just going say this here, for the sake of posterity: Rosberg will win the title because of a suspiciously long pit stop for Hamilton in the final race.

Alonso and Hamilton were the star drivers for me today; Alonso showing he is the best at defending when his back is against the wall, held off Lewis superbly with extremely worn tyres. Nothing to take away from Ricciardo though who I have really warmed to this season, was not expecting him to perform in the Red Bull but he has stepped up fantastically and has outperformed Vettel this season by some margin.

If he would have come in to get new soft tyres he would have landed behind Rosberg even if he would have pushed as fast as he can on the medium tyres.
He would have lost time behind the group Rosberg was stuck behind after he came in for a pit stop when he couldn't overtake Hamilton.
Rosberg on the other hand wouldn't have been stuck behind Hamilton (he was faster at the time on better soft tyres, just not fast enough to overtake Hamilton), meaning he would have been fast enough to come out in front of that group and Hamilton when he came in for his new tyres.

I think it's not unreasonable to suggest that Rosberg would have finished 2nd and Hamilton 3rd if Hamilton would have come in to get new soft tyres just before or while Rosberg was catching up on him.

Anyway, it was stupid to send Hamilton out on medium tyres to save one pit stop in the first place. He should have gotten the same pit stop/tyre strategy as Rosberg in the first place.

Ricciardo and Alonso were the drivers of the day, Hamiltons drive was nothing special. Was lucky he didn't damage his car more when he hit the barrier and got lucky with the safety car.
Rosberg isn't even one of the top 8 drivers in F1, not nearly ruthless enough. As for Perez, Sutil, Grosjean and Maldanado why they are still in F1 I have no idea.

And Hamilton was quite right not to let Rosberg through.
