The F1 Thread 2014 Season

how can driving from the pit lane to 3rd be nothing special.

To be honest, doing something like this in a dominant car really isn't special. Impressive but not special. I remember Räikkönen doing this every other week back in 2005 or so when he always qualified badly but got one of the top spots at the end of the weekend. Vettel did it a couple of times over the last few years, Alonso has done it a few times before, Schuhmacker back when he was still going strong and had his odd day in qualifying for a change ... If your car is good enough it normally doesn't matter how you qualify - if you have a good race without any major problems you will still end up in the top group at the end of the race. Sure, your chances of winning the race have diminished a whole lot, but you can still get in a good result.

Saying who the best driver might be, is always a tricky choice but I don't think it has ever been this clear. What Alonso has done with the crappy Renault and Ferrari cars he has been given in recent years is just freaking impressive. I don't like the guy but he should have won a few more titles in my oppinion. Shame Red Bull was that dominant during his prime, he should have won in 2012. Behind him it's a close competition. Lots of great drivers. Hamilton, Vettel and Räikkönen are all fantastic. You can't say who is the best one among them. Hopefully we'll see a few more faces on the podium the rest of the season.

I meant in terms of this announcement:

Online Games Infringement Posted : 2014-08-08 13:49:52 (GMT)

I have recently been notified that elements of this free game include intellectual property which is Formula One related, and have been reminded that Formula One World Championship Limited ("FOWC") has the exclusive rights to manage, control and exploit just about everything related to the sport.

It goes on to tell me that it isn't possible to produce an interactive game, based on the FIA Formula One World Championship, without an appropriate licence from FOWC. An exclusive worldwide interactive games agreement is already in place with a third party, so any unlicensed game could compromise such an agreement.

In short - I must immediately cease all such infringements on any / all of my websites.

What this means for Fantasy Racers

The competition will continue through 2014, although the results of each FANTASY race may not accurately reflect the ACTUAL race - that's just not allowed. Any similarities between our drivers / races and the real F1 Drivers / races will be purely co-incidental.

After this year.... well I just don't know. But I'll let you know as soon as I do.

Danny

I guess Verstappen will be bringing a tonne of sponsorship money with him to Toro Rosso.

F1 meets Fast & Furious, I like it.

Frankly I'm surprised Bernie hasn't suggested NOS already.

For NOS, read KERS

this was my first thoughts, why else would you let a 17 year old drive an F1 car.
May be just me but I don't see how a 17 year old has the maturity needed to be an F1 driver, time will tell.

Hamilton has proven that you're perfectly capable of acting like a moody teenager and getting results. And Maldonado has proven you're perfectly capable of being an F1 driver without actually being that good or mature.

Also this makes me feel so old. I remember Jos as a driver back when he was Schumi's teammate and also him getting caught in a horrific refuelling fire.
Just wiki'd Jos and since he's retired he's spent most his time being arrested for assaulting girlfriends, then being arrested for attempting to murder his ex girlfriend

verspattens son has been handed an f1 drive for next season - and he is 16!

he wont even be allowed to drive himself to a lot of the circuits - he must be amazing or somebody must owe a favour to his dad!

it does go to show how much networking and of course money / access to racing when younger goes into things - crazy how many ex f1 drivers kids become f1 drivers

Maybe, although to be fair, if you look deep enough, you'll also find tons of sons of F1 drivers, including champions, who never made it anywhere near as far. Prost, Mansell, etc... The combination of money and access does give you and edge the just the fact they were there as kids mean more are likely to follow their fathers than in most businesses, but for the most part it still won't be enough.

He may be very talented, hell he might even be a success even at that age but what's the rush here? What he couldn't do a season in GP2 first? They just had to get him into the seat at 17?

Drivers that are talented will always be capable of jumping Formula's, Raikkonen was plucked out of Formula Renault but he was 20. This guy isn't even 17 until the end of September, its nuts.

Seems Red Bull rate him very highly, and a race seat was something they could offer that Mercedes couldn't.

I don't understand the rush is all, placing him in a well funded GP2 seat for a season makes much more sense for his development. This is rushing a driver for no real reason, you can't justify putting a 17 year old in, I don't care if he is the second coming of Senna.

The rush is that Mercedes had an offer on the table that was more lucrative, Verstappen basically said that a race seat will seal the deal & that is what Red Bull could offer him.

Ah ok, I wasn't aware there was a bidding war for him. It's going to be interesting to watch, he does look like a pretty special talent. I think Taki sums it up best.

Age shouldn't come into it, if he's good enough then he's old enough. Im sure the lap times will speak for themselves.

I've decided it would be better if Rosberg took the title. The bealif of winning a title would further elevate his game. Lewis could live without another title, everybody knows he's the sh*t. I just dont want to sit here next season watching Nico become a career number 2 driver when he has the potential to add so much to the sport as a world champion. Some might say Nico is already making waves but I fear losing out on the title could break him mentally.

What percentage of races does he actually finish. The man really is just taking up a seat someone else should have
