The F1 Thread 2014 Season

It was Hamilton's fault for having a poor 3rd qualifying session not the teams. Cracking start from him and to get from 9th to 2nd is all you can realistically ask for with Rosberg starting so far ahead. You could point to the pit-stops and say he would've been ahead but that is out of the drivers control. Another good race overall, really like the first half of the races as they still seem to be the most competitive before wear and tear of the engines/tires set in.

you have a point, but Lewis's pit stops, were I thing 4 seconds slower than Nico's, thats what cost him the race.

Indeed and it would have been the performance of the year if he had come from 9th to get the victory. Not putting a time in the 3rd qualifying session is inexcusable though. Has it all to do now and could do with some DNF's for Rosberg.

I don't think it's unlikely. German team, German driver. They brought Hamilton on board to give them a good run at the championship, but when it turns out their native German also has a chance then they'll do everything in their power to help him. Don't underestimate just how desperate Mercedes are for a German to win - after all, when they bought the team they kicked out the reigning world champion in Button so they could bring in a well past it Schumacher.
It's starting to look more like this every race, I know they would prefer a German winner but there are less obvious ways to do this.

This must be worrying for Lewis. He's clearly been the faster driver this year but Nico has pulled a big gap.

I reckon this may come down to the last race and double points. Ugh.

50 Pointer at Abu Dhabi, this is going to be a controversial WDC for Lewis.

Yup, if someone wins it on double points then that would pretty much be a joke. Can't believe they didn't remove it.

So with Rosberg matching Hamilton, does this cast a more favourable light on Schumachers 2nd F1 career considering he matched him and actually did better than him in his final season, reliability issues aside?

I do think people will realise how quick Nico is.

Lewis seems to get horrific luck all the time though, he'd be ahead if that unfortunate things had been shared equally with Nico I think.

I think Rosberg's always been quite highly rated hasn't he? I don't think it'll change too much - it was only really the media who portrayed his comeback as a complete disaster, most people realised he was doing a decent enough job.

Although at least Schumi fans will be able to say he was beaten by a future WDC. Guess the counter-argument might be that Hamilton's arrival has forced Rosberg to up his game.

There's some strong Hamilton tracks coming up on the calendar in Silverstone, Hungary, Spa, Monza & Singapore so the tide could turn over this championship.

If he sorts out his qualifying performance then he'll be laughing.

McLaren have been a joke since about 2008. They're doing a Williams (before, you know, Williams got alright again). No way would he go there again, especially as Mercedes are gonna be dominant for a while unless Renault get their shit together

Wait and see what happens with Honda linking up with McLaren next season - I suspect Honda will want to produce a cracking engine to mark their return - and they do have some form in producing cracking engines - particularly turbos!
Also McLaren have finally got their main supercar project finished so perhaps a number of their boffins have already been working on next year having written this year off already - I'm not saying Lewis will go back but I do expect them to be stronger next year and certainly I don't think they will be a joke

I'd like to see him go to Ferrari at some point, as much as they hated him they would love him if he raced for them. Be like Mansell all over again.

I think he would like being at ferrari if he was the no 1 driver... he has always had teams where there seems a more equal footing but I feel he would like to be main man for once

Unless the situation at Mercedes really goes tits up and Lewis feels he has to leave, I don't see him leaving there for a few years at least. Even if he did he'd probably only go back to Mclaren if they were the only competitive option available. Hamilton in a Ferrari would be awesome, I would love to see that.

Cars line up back onto the grid in their order & start like a normal race. Only time it doesn't if the SC comes out within 2 laps of the start or 5 laps of the end. Pointless.

DC and Eddie trying to break down mind warfare, honestly.

Mountain out of a fecking molehill.

Why on earth didn't they send them out on dry tyres as soon as they saw Button's first sector, thats baffling from Ferrari, Williams and Red Bull who were lucky to get away with it.

Chilton is gonna get a +5 penalty for a gearbox change and not even be at the back

This season is worse than last in terms of domination by one team. The Mercedes are so far ahead even in these conditions. Reminds me a lot of the Ferrari domination days when everybody moaned, funny how the media aren't moaning this time round because a British driver is involved.
