The F1 Thread 2014 Season

Hard to believe it was 20 years ago! Awful loss to the sport. It's worth remembering Roland Ratzenberger who died the same weekend.

Definitely, they found an Austrian flag in Senna's car after the crash, apparently he'd planned to unfurl it after the race in tribute to Ratzenberger. It's a shame he is generally forgotten by most.

Just finished watching the Senna documentary. Heart breaking stuff.
Saw it last week. Very good!

I heard Prost was complaining that they didn't feature the reconciliation between him and Senna. That was weird alright cos he was a pallbearer and in the credits at the end they mentioned he's a trustee of Senna's foundation.

Just finished the documentary then, very sad stuff.

No F1 driver has died in a race since then, the silver lining out of a very dark cloud.

Cheers for the heads up, have never managed to catch that film yet, to my annoyance - Sky+ set!

Yeah it's a cracking film. Not going to spoil it for you but the anxiety levels you build up in the last half an hour of the film is a very strange experience considering you already know how the film ends.

When people say "film" they mean the documentary, right? I'm not missing out on another film having seen the documentary am I?

Hamilton looks absolutely untouchable around Spain here, 4 tenths ahead on quali pace in FP but his race pace run is sillyness, he's like a second ahead of anyone with increasingly better lap times when the rest are experiencing degredation.

Vettel only ran 4 laps in FP1 and none in FP2, anyone know what's going on there?
They had to change the whole wiring loom, sounds like a massive job.

Sebastian Vettel was forced to sit out second practice in Barcelona due to an electrical problem.

The issue manifested itself just four laps into FP1, meaning Vettel had to pull his RB10 to a halt on circuit.

His car was returned to the garage but he was unable to return to the fray, and Red Bull subsequently confirmed that the four-time world champion would also miss Friday's second session in order to cure the problem.

"Due to an electrical problem that has damaged the wiring loom of Car No. 1, Sebastian will not be able to take part in FP2," Red Bull said on Twitter.

"The Team will use the time to fix it to be ready for FP3 tomorrow."

In 2014, Vettel has suffered his worst start to a Formula One campaign since joining Red Bull. In contrast to last season, he has scored just one podium and 33 points over the opening four races, and in addition has finished behind new team mate Daniel Ricciardo in the last two Grands Prix in Bahrain and China.

Red Bull provided the German with a new chassis for Barcelona, a decision he admitted on Friday had been at least partly influenced by his recent struggles.

As a result of this latest setback, Vettel will have just one hour in FP3 to prepare for qualifying, which commences at 14:00 local time on Saturday.

Complete contrast from yesterday for Hamilton then, he was about as hooked up as I'd ever seen him then.

I heard on his radio he was saying the cars in worst than before, I take that to mean they have done something and its not worked.

Yeah he wasn't happy with it this morning, don't know what changed overnight really. Track temps look about the same, he's on the backfoot now anyway. I think Rosberg might take this one.

Maldonado should have just let that spin out surely rather than crash into the wall!
