The F1 Thread 2014 Season

As soon as he says that you know it will be 2016. Even if they started tomorrow planning the 2015 car they would be behind schedule with no reference points, I think they would be better off taking their time, hooking up with Honda who have excellent ties with American teams and go from there.

Just saw Jack Nicholls is doing the BBC F1 commentary for this weekends race (its not live but highlights and radio), thats pretty cool. I actually raced against him online for a full season as his teammate a few years back and he started out doing commentary on online races I believe.

Wha?

He is actually just doing 5 live coverage I think, someone told me he was doing actual TV but I don't think he is. Shame, because he is better than Ben Edwards.

No, I mean what's this about being his team-mates and online races and stuff? Sounds intriguing.

Oh rFactor leagues, although I have dabbled in most sims. I don't get to really race much anymore but in my Uni days I was well into it, full length races following the F1 calendar mostly.

It's very competitive now, very. The better drivers tend to put in 1000+ laps practice before each race with properly adjusted setups, when it got to that point I kinda stepped back from it a bit because its an extreme time sinker, I used to like to do 30 laps practice with a couple of wing/gear adjustments for each track.

Tons of fun though, I wish I had a bit more time to do it and was quicker by about half a second.

@Leg-End have you ever done any real racing? Or is it just a simulator thing?

I did some kart racing when I was a kid but not for long, I was more interested in football and could only do one. So yeah I just dissapeared down the video game racing rabbit hole.

Fair enough. I always wish I'd had the opportunity to do some serious racing in my younger years. Every time we go to a Karting event I always finish top 2 along with a mate of ours who does a lot of proper racing (and is probably a good stone or so lighter than me!).

I'm not very good at racing games though, but I put that down to only using a pad rather than a wheel/pedals.

Yeah you have to go wheel/pedals really, pad can get you so far but having a decent wheel puts you automatically ahead of pad users on stability/control alone.

This is coming to consoles hopefully this year

Project CARS, its not full on sim like some of them but I'm sure it will get a few more people into it.

Mercedes finally have their new shorter nose ready.

Toto said the previous version was just a stop/gap measure whilst they got this one sorted and through crash testing, the whole car has been designed around this version. Mercedes have dominated the first 3 races with a stop/gap nose solution.........they are so far ahead.

Christ that's depressing.

I would have joined you and saved you from having to talk to yourself Pauldy if I had remembered about the quali. It completely left my head that Shanghai was this weekend. What time does the race start tomorrow?

It was a very average session due to the rain, Lewis was excellent in it and both Red Bulls did well.
I did think it was later in the day , but I was at work so got paid to watch it and work was quite so nothing disturbed me.

I love these early races, perfectly timed for breakfast in bed and watching on the tablet.

Hamilton if its dry and he gets away clean probably with romp home, depends on how quickly Rosberg dispatches the Red Bull's and he really should give his huge straightline advantage.

Nico Rosberg stuffed down to 7th on the first lap.
