The F1 Thread 2013 Season

Vettel is flatout talking shit if he really believes we think he didn't know he was meant to hold station. We heard on the team radio more than once it wasn't the case, its a false apology.

Webber hinting he wants to leave either the team or F1. Team photo is also cancelled.

Agree with this. Seb more than knew what he was instructed to do.

Vettel knew what he was doing and was fully aware that he was told to hold station.

Not the best strategy from him to pretend to deny any knowledge of the team plan. His popularity isn't helped from what he did on the track without lying to the public as well. Obviously popularity wouldn't be at the forefront of his mind when he is at the back of Webbers car but he won't get much help from his team-mate now for the rest of the season

You know its actually annoyed me more that Vettel is now trying to play Mr Nice Guy to the media/fans when its so clearly bullshit.

We'll have to see about that. The fact is Webber is expendable. There are plenty of good drivers who'll happily take the seat at Red Bull and the odd win, even with the faint hope of a title battle. In most teams, they won't get close to any of that. Unless Webber decides he's not staying at Red Bull beyond this season and is willing to burn bridges, it won't happen. And if it does and risks a Red Bull title, he could actually be replaced in mid season.

He's angry now, but he'll calm down way before China in three weeks.

Sebastian Vettel says he owes Red Bull team-mate Mark Webber an apology face-to-face because "I messed up today".

He added: "I don't care about the criticism. I owe an explanation to Mark and the team and that's it. For sure it's not a victory I'm very proud of because it should have been Mark's."

"I'm going for 1st says Webber!"

If you get that reference, have a cookie.

An interesting quote from Sebastian Vettel in the written press conference has just surfaced. He said: "I can't change it now, but hopefully there's a situation in the future where I can." Would Vettel hand Webber a victory back to make up for it if he gets the chance?

Good to see. It's indefensible really, people trying to rationalise it but even he knows himself he fecked up. You can say 'oh it's racing, oh it's what champions do' but you at least tell the guy you're going to do it. It's not like Webber had some naive assumption that Vettel would be a nice guy and leave him alone, he was actually told - twice to turn the engine down and that the cars would not be racing against each other. For someone to then go against that and take advantage of you is low and it's good that he realises it.

All the Vettel fans trying to defend him in here

He's a massive cnut, and this is just another feather in his cuntcap. Every race it gets more obvious that he's just Schumacher Mark II - insanely talented, but doesn't understand the meaning of "sportsmanship".

Thing is, Vettel probably does feel like a dick now in the aftermath of the race when he's taking in the reactions to what he's done, but that doesn't matter. The fact is he knew what he was doing and chose to ignore that during the race.

From BBC (Vettel):

"Today it did and I should have translated the call into action. I just didn't get the message. I got it. I heard it. But obviously no action followed because I misunderstood."

"I put myself above that decision today. I didn't mean to. I can only say sorry, apologise."

what a twat. Webber was 5 seconds in front and backed off. Vettel speeds up. Could cost vettel big time in subsequent races. Webber is generally slower but on occasion has better races than vettel and lets him through on orders. Probaby no more of that.

mercedes messed up unless we didn't hear them tell rosberg his fuel was low too?

Vettel looked after himself and IMO not to too much long term detriment, Red Bull could have had Hamilton but chose early doors not to. He didn't cost his team, yeah there will a loss of trust and what not but Vettel brings back the bacon every year. It's cnutish but as people have said its only race 2, let them race and that applies to Mercedes who should have split their strategies.

McLaren were back at their usual I see, threw away an easy 5th. It was fecking weird to see two guys on the podium unhappy for opposite reasons.

The McLaren thing is fecking hilarious. Button was doing brilliantly in fifth, and then they fecked up his pitstop. Again. Hamilton must see things like that and thank his lucky stars that he left.

feck the team orders. It's race 2 FFS.

Well done Vettel and Rosberg should've done the same.

So Webber shouldn't have helped Vettel win several races in the last few years? Just race? Can you imagine Vettel's response? Has to work both ways. Also, don't the teams consider the constructor title more important than the drivers title? I think the fans are the exact opposite but still.

Also these tyres are pissing me off, drivers and cars driving far within themselves isn't what I like to see.

He hasn't got his story straight yet. I misunderstood yet put myself over the decision. :wenger:

They will never have Lewis/Alonso in the same team with Vettel, If Webber leaves at the end of the season his replacement will be someone from the RBR drivers programme.

Button was having a good race until the pit stop, he thought they were quick enough to challenge Mercedes but that could have been down to fuel/tyre management.

And you can see why they chose not to today, you'd get that pretty much every race.

McLaren could have even beaten at least one Merc today as well, astonishing how they conspire to screw up so much.

I would respect him much more if he just came came out and said "i wanted the win and couldnt care less what the team said."

He is a winner, but team orders go both ways. I doubt Horner has the balls to really dress Seb down.

I'm no Vettel fan, but the whole idea of 'team orders' puts me off F1. I want to see racing. If I want to see a procession I'll go to the carnival. So I say good for Vettel.

I have no problem with team orders. If you don't want to see them, then don't have teams. As soon as you let one outfit run more than one car then they'll have those cars interact in the way that's most beneficial to them. That's only reasonable.

Can't you see why the idea of teams telling the drivers not to race would put people off the sport?
