The F1 Thread 2013 Season

Well then maybe F1 isn't the sport for you.

That's a great attitude. But yes I suppose you are right. Which is why I've only paid it a fleeting interest over the last 5 years. And I'm not the only one. A good few of my mates who used to not miss a race don't even bother with it anymore.

Team orders have been around for ever. Didn't Moss even have to give his car up to Fangio once? Most people watching just accept it as part of the sport, I'd have thought.

There's a broad scale of team orders though, from clusterfecks like Austria 2002 to no-brainers like Brazil 2007. Turning your engine down and saving tyres to bring home the 1-2 is usually fairly uncontroversial.

They had basically 75% of the race to race freely, its pretty standard to see two cars in the same team hold station after the last pitstop, fecking countless times Webber had to reign it in after the final stops and follow Vettel home.

Agreed, team orders go both ways...

I hate team orders, but like you say they are here to stay, not a shock that Vettel said bollocks to team orders and went on to win.

Did he say bollocks to team orders though? Or did he pretend like he was okay with them, then take advantage of his team mate. If he said 'no sorry I'm going for the win' over the radio it would have been a different story.

Yeap maybe you right, but if there is one driver you would not expect to follow team orders is Vettel.
Maybe he should of said on the radio, sod it I want the win.

Same thing. His actions showed what he was doing, and the team knew it

It's not the same thing at all. If you don't intend to do it you should say, not pretend that you're okay with it so your team mate lets his guard down and then you pounce when the time comes to stick your finger up at him.

Aye, should have said it.

Aye, should have said it.

What i should say is same result, but take your point it is more sneaky. We dont know all convos that went on between RBR and drivers

"I messed up" says Vettel after taking a win like that

Good to see, it confirms why I've always disliked the utter cnut.

Actually the Lewis one I don't understand more. It's not Rosberg's fault that Lewis couldn't conserve fuel.

Vettel was just cnutish.

I thought that both drivers had to save fuel.

Yeh, as far as I understand it Rosberg felt he was faster than Hamilton and wanted permission to go quicker, but the team were pointing out that Hamilton could go quicker as well, but was also being "controlled".

Now, I think they should have let them race, but at the same time at least both drivers accepted the team orders that were given and did what they were told.

I don't think Hamilton was speaking without thought when he mentioned on the podium that Nico was a "great teammate" because he didn't try and overtake when they were told to hold station.

It sounds to me that both and Lewis and Nico were in real danger of running out of fuel and they just wanted both cars to finish.
Could of easily been the other way round and Lewis wanted to pass Nico.

Still. Brain dead of the race definitely Alonso. Did he really think he could do 4-5 laps on a broken front wing.

Coulthard gets on my tits whenever he talks about Red Bull, hes basically a PR man for them. He's great talking about racing and other teams but as soon as the post race comes with Red Bull talk he goes all Alan Shearer.

I would this was 50/50, Ferrari were waiting in the pit box with a new wing and dry tyres but his engineer never put the call in.

I reckon Alonso's wing might have survived another lap or two in free air, you'll notice it broke exactly as Webber's wake put extra force on the outer edge.

Agreed. He was "unlucky" that his gamble didn't pay off. He wasn't lacking too much pace and if the track dried and his wing survived until the change he would have been haled as a genius.

At least Lewis admitted that he should not be there. Vettel just said it was hot.

Well to be fair Vettel was faster than Webber but he ignored a team order which was a total dick move and he later said so that he know it wasn't right what he did and owes Mark and the team an apology, at least that's what Sky News reports.

Best moment of the race for me was still Hamilton driving into the wrong McLaren box.

Vettel 100% knew what he was doing, hes just trying to save face after the backlash.

He was quicker because webber was told to lower his engine level and that he was not gonna be overtaken

The official McLaren twitter page tweeted this earlier: Feel free to pop in and say "hi" any time, @LewisHamilton!
