The F1 Thread 2013 Season

Would've said the same thing if it was the other way round. I don't have any bias towards anyone. Unlike some people in here.

If Webber was indeed fast enough, he would've won, simple as that. I hope this fires him up and we get to see some fight between teammmates.
I'd say that'll make for a better viewing, wouldn't you?
Webber was fast enough though? He slowed down because of team orders.

Webber's done his fair share of helping Vettel so if he was told by the team that vettel wasn't going to challenge then he has a right to be very pissed off. His problem is that Vettel is a much faster driver. I love the way we're giving out about a great battle at the front

 yep, the most entertaining part of the race being criticised!

If Webber is told "multi 21" which is code for bring it home and the the guy behind attacks anyway what can he do? He raced Vettel hard once it was clear he was getting screwed.

Team orders stink, especially this early but it doesn't mean they should just be ignored because you don't fancy it, Rosberg did the job his team asked him to do, Vettel did not and it probably means a whole season of uncertanty whenever those two get close.

Agreed. Okay, they may have not come to blows today, but does anyone remember Istanbul 2010?
Istanbul was a one off but from the way RBR reacted you knew Vettel was the no1 driver and that's going back three years.

Do you think Lewis would have if it was reversed?

Great battle? You need to have both drivers on the same page of racing to get a great battle. You had one driver not listening to team orders & one was listening, i can't see how that can be a great battle.

From the moment he exited the pits he knew he had a battle on, that was brilliant stuff.

I'm talking about artificial passes, or lack of, not getting in the way of a faster driver. Passing isn't that straight forward in F1 as we know all too well.

Plus when he did pass him legitimately he gets moaned at too.

You asked my opinion, which is that orders shouldn't decide things this early.

Multi 21. It was wrong by the team to say Multi 21 in the first place, it's the second race of the season, they should race until the last lap to be honest. Webber has the right to be angry, but not at Vettel. It's the team's fault, "Multi 21"? feck that, race till the finish, fastest car and driver wins. Same with Nico and Hamilton.

The only thing Vettel has done wrong is disobeyed team orders, even if the team orders were in fact wrong by themselves.

One could hope.

Also what Webber could have done? Race? Again, if he was fast enough, surely he would've stayed ahead?

Has he ever disobeyed team orders? Honestly if it was the other way around I don't think there would have been a team order.

Lewis disobeying orders was the reason behind the whole Hungary 2007 charade with Alonso.

Every point counts though, does it really matter if its the second race of the season or the 10th? They raced for 75% of the race and decided to cruise home I can see the teams point of view.

Every driver has that attitude when he comes out of the pits, but brilliant stuff? This has nothing on Turkey 2010.

Wasn't that was started his whole spat with Alonso in '07?

No chance he'd have held station today, it's not in him and that's why he's a WDC.

In qualifying, in his Rookie season that was all about track position for Quali laps. Pretty big difference.

I get what Rick_N is trying to say. It's easy not to disobey when team orders are always in your favor but at this stage of the season, it was juvenile and wrong for Vettel to do what he did.

If Webber had crashed into Vettel, I am not sure Webber could be blamed for it.

Sure, but you asked if he'd ever done it, and I don't think he's got less competitive. And that did kick off a chain of events that (indirectly) ended up costing McLaren about $100m.

I don't like it. They don't trust their drivers enough to have them compete in a race? Same goes for Mercedes. It's a race, the very definition of every man for himself. Team orders should just be banned really.

Aye I do get your point, as a viewer/fan of the sport that would be the best option. It's a team sport though and RBR was cruising to a 1-2 finish, sucks for us but you can see why they wanted to save the car and just get the points on the board.

Nico Rosberg seems like such a classy guy.

Yeah he is, we'll see what happens as the season goes on if Merc are still up the front......I hate saying it but he has the hallmarks of an excellent Number 2.

Fact is he was quicker than Hamilton today, has been all weekend really which isn't that surprising given Hamilton is still adapting. The Mercedes looks so softly sprung which must feel a hell of a lot different to the ironing board McLarens of 2010-2012.

Speaking of McLaren......nice to see some things never change.

 Lewis evidently misses it though!

Utter incompetence in the pits as ever, but the pace of Button was actually not so bad today, which is positive for them. Perez not impressing me so far.

Of course it was a great battle. Were you not watching those few laps?

But as I also said in the rest of that post that you missed when you were quoting was that Webber has every right to be pissed off because he was told Vettel wasn't going to challenge

I love that Mercedes car, easily one of the best looking cars in the past few years. Nice to see the team starting well this year, once Hamilton fully adapts I can see them getting even stronger.

Agreed.

Nico interviewed, doesn't seem too disappointed.

He shouldn't be, his only win so far came with some team help from Schumacher last year.

Brawn had it right when he said the drivers get it both ways, and i'm pretty sure they'll be other times this season when Hamilton will toe the team line.

A great battle to me is when both drivers going at 100%. You had Vettel on 100% and Webber on about 75% until Seb passed him. I can't accept it as great when Webber wasn't expecting a battle to happen.

BBC Sport headline right now "Vettel ignores team orders to win"
