The F1 Thread 2013 Season

Vettel was a complete cock.

But what a shit race, with shit tyres and the top four all coasting in line. It is a joke what F1 has become. Just let them get in the car and drive as fast as they can!

That used to be quite boring as well, in fairness.

Aye, the tyres are a pisstake. The top drivers all driving slowly and carefully because they can't afford to take any life out of the tyres.

For feck's sake, just make the tyres as good as they can be, so people can drive flat-out for the whole race. That's what the public want.

Anyone hear exactly what Kimi was shouting about on the radio? Think it was an incident with Grosjean or Hulkenberg.

The man is hilarious and defo my favourite driver

So which one is it: teams made shit cars or Pirelli tyres consist primarily of soft cheese?

If they make the tyres good and drivers just caned it round, we'd get a lot more processions. There's a balance to be struck.

Was with Hulk, "did you see what he's been doing, he's pushing me off and now he hit me!"

They complained when they tyres last the whole race which is why Pirelli made their compounds like they have.

What the public want is a balance of cars being able to push as fast as they want but the tyres not to last the entire race without any degradation.

The problem is that no tyre manufacturer will ever find a happy medium.

The tire situation is unusual. Mercedes, Ferrari etc are building incredible cars presumably to sell the brand. Pirelli on the other hand are being forced into making crap. Can't be good advertising.

You've not followed F1 for long have you?

Oh yeh, I'm not advocating tyres that last a whole race either, but this is obscene. These tyres don't even last five laps of proper racing before they start to destroy themselves.

I thought they already had decent balance last year. The racing was far more exciting. I don't see why they saw the need to make the tyres worse. There's a limit to how artificial you should be in order to make things interesting.

Can the tyre compounds be changed at all now that the season has started, or is it a case of being stuck with them until the end now?

The compounds in name will remain the same but Pirelli can basically change everything as long as its FIA approved, possibly need a majority vote from the teams too though I would guess.

Feel a bit sorry for Webber if he did indeed turn his engine down, only for Vettel to overtake him. That said I don't agree with team orders. The fastest racer should win.

People saying it was a boring race, I rather enjoyed it.

Seeing Alonso go out was brilliant. Punishment for Ferrari's stupidity.

Di Resta needs to move to a better Team ASAP. He's too good for Force India, They're a joke of a team. Would like to see him replace Roman at Lotus next season. Could be a good fit, would know he's clearly number 2 to Kimi but also have a chance at some podiums.

Brillaint driving by Vettle to overtake Webber and people said 'he can't overtake'. lol. The disobeying team orders to do it shows how ruthless and determined to win he is and in short, why Webber will never win a world title.

The people on here complaining about team orders and how they should be banned are silly, There will ALWAYS be team orders, even when they banned it last time there were still team orders just disguised in other ways. You can't stop it so you might as well have it, Plus it IS a team sport in terms of the Constructors championship and all the racers are employee's of the constructors.

Nico was a pro and a classy guy today, Knows Hamilton is #1 at Mercedes atm and tbh they're not going to be competing for the Drivers World Championship this season so where they come isn't really that important overall, but the Constructors points are vital. Nice too see Mercedes doing well, Would like to see them push for a win or two this season.

McLaren are a complete joke as well this year. Terrible car, laughable Pitstops. I bet Lewis is bloody pleased about his move right about now.

Only thing I'm annoyed about is that I have to wait 3 weeks for the next race.

Brilliant driving to overtake a team mate with his engine turned down on team orders? It just makes him a cnut.

They were wheel to wheel through several corners twice during the race. Hate Vettel all you want but he's a fecking brilliant driver. He's going to exceed Schumi imo.

Errrr again, brilliant maneuver it may be but it wasn't fair as Webber had his engine turned down. We aren't talking about it being immoral, we're talking about it not being a fair fight so compliment him all you want but it's like saying you beat Bolt with his kneecaps shot.

Is it possible to turn the engine up again? Not defending Vettel or anything, just curious. Could Webber make it a fair race again the moment he realises Vettel is attacking him or is it more complicated than just pushing a few buttons.

So you don't think that Mark seeing what Seb was doing, didn't have the forsight to turn his Engine back up?

Seb probably was helped in catching up to Webber by him having his engine turned down, but once he started to overtake you can bet your bollocks he turned the engine back up, It was clear from his driving he was trying his hardest not to let him past.

Di Resta isn't going anywhere until he proves himself at Force India, finishing in front of Sutil will help him find a better team but it won't guarantee a place at the likes of Renault.

You need a majority vote to change the compounds but Helmut Marko reckons Pirelli will have something similar to 2012 when we get to Bahrain.

It's just engine map settings, he could have turned it back up again but I'm guessing the team told him to hold back.

It's also very obvious that Webber conceded the place in the end - he was actually keeping Vettel behind him prior to that. On the corner where Vettel gets passed, Webber actually has the racing line and could keep Vettel behind him even longer if he wanted, but he clearly realises that the scrap will just involve them both going out or possibly ruin the tyres, so he lets him go.

They can control the air/fuel mixture on the steering wheel, I'm sure Webber could've turned it back up but the damage was done. Vettel snuck in front and that was it. I'm not a fan of team orders, the quickest driver should win, but if Webber deliberately backed off on team orders then he Vettel overtook then that's fairly poor sportsmanship. Not much you can do.

Personally I hope we see someone else other than Vettel win the world championship this year. Seeing Raikkonen do it in the Lotus would be awesome particularly seeing as Red Bull's budget dwarfs Lotus'. feck it, I hope Chilton takes it out

I'm sure Webber "turned the engine back up". It wasn't really about that. Vettel had the faster tyres for his last stint. He chose the medium, Webber chose the hard. He thought as long as he come out in front from the pits it's all done and dusted.

Only the team will know what Webber did with his settings, he could have changed to a quicker engine map but I reckon the team would have told him to slow down when they noticed it. It's impossible to say who would have won if Webber chased after Vettel, one thing for sure is the pair of them would have destroyed their tyres.

They won't drop him as it would effect the WDC and Constructors title, he will get a telling off when they get back to back to factory and will probably hand Webber a race win at some point in the season.

So I have been catching up as I was working on Sunday, its confirmed then. Vettel is an utter cnut on the track, dont blame Webber for being completely fecked off with him.

Sums it up very well, on one hand you cant blame Vettel for being pissed and passing Webber, but team rules are team rules he should of followed them.
Rosburg had to do the same behind Lewis.

Mercedes did not want the drives to fight it out because I think they were in danger of running out of fuel, I would be interested to hear why Red Bull did not want them to race, they have took each other out before now , maybe that was the reason.

Webber was told to slow down on team orders, so for Vettel to catch up and overtake Webber is a pretty cnutish thing to do. Still, suppose that's why he's 3 x world champion and Webber isn't.

It's not as simple as "turning the engine up".

Webber would've planned his whole race to just give him enough of a cushion to keep ahead of Vettel after the last stops. With the tyres the way they are you really can't afford to push more than you have to.

Had he known Vettel wouldnt obey team protocol he'd have worked on building a larger advantage.

Presumably the reason also that Vettel was able to close in so quickly in the last stint was because Webber wouldn't have expected Vettel to attempt to pass.

Basically Seb was being an utter dick.

Great analysis. There's probably a whole lot more to it too.

Another hypothetical here.

If all the drivers were in the same car, same set up, tires etc. Who do you think would come out on top? Is Vettel actually the best driver of the current crop, or is a lot of it down to the Red Bull car he's driving.

Personally I think Alonso and Hamilton have as much or more talent than Vettel, they've just been in inferior cars the last few seasons

I don't claim to be an F1 expert but I'd guess the contenders would be Alonso, Kimi, Hamilton and Vettel.

I'd probably say Alonso is the best driver
