The F1 Thread 2012 Season

ferrari in fuel saving mode already? apparently Massa's fuel situation is "critical"

De La Rosa does us all a favour and puts the HRT out of the race. feck you HRT.

Looking at these boys at the back I really think that the FIA should take a stand of some kind and tell them to feck right off, they bring nothing to the party. They get in the way of the lead cars every race, the are always at the back of the grid, they have not got the money to do any R&D to allow them to compete in the grid, surely by now after several seasons of these wankers its better to at the very least get rid of Marussia and HRT and reduce the size of the grid.

The first lap was fun, since then it has been pretty fecking boring.

Vettels car is running really really low to the ground. Possibly damaged it somewhere on a kerb.

Finger waving fecktard, christ that was boring. And VJ has the audacity to say this is one of the most exciting circuit in F1 at the moment the biased force india cnut. And cuntface just did the frog on the team radio

The feck was that all about?

Vettel getting a little shove down the pit lane by Webber, possibly low in fuel.

F1 has to be very careful this doesn't turn into the Schumacher years again. Viewing figures plummeted when Michael was winning everything in the Ferrari, because the casual fans just didn't give a shit - it was so fecking boring that there was no point watching. The hardcore fans carried on watching, of course (they just whinged instead), but Jill and Bill from Reading who don't really follow it decided they had better things to do.

Vettel is so good, and the Red Bull is so utterly supreme, that we're at risk of that happening again.

What can you do, if RedBull keep on devoloping fastest cars? They've already banned so many things which helped RedBull. McClaren had the quickest car at the start of the season but they just are....

Its already happened if you ask me, the start of this season was great but it has now evolved into the same old story for the past few years. There is nothing they can do though, red bull and vettel will be dominant over the next few years and we will be back to the schumi dominance days. Just watch the viewers plummet especially now that only half the season is free view on BBC.

We need to put Alonso alongside Vettel in that Red Bull to avoid F1 becoming a snoozefest ever year. It's the only way someone will beat Vettel to the title.

Well half the problem is that Red Bull spend twice as much as the other teams on in-season developments. They've brought updates to almost every race, which means they've gone from being third best on the grid to being by far the quickest.

There's a gentlemen's agreement between the teams to stick to agreed resource limits, but Red Bull have never actually obeyed it and now don't even pretend to. They left the agreement ages ago.

And that's forgetting that they won the title last year by cheating, with that front wing that clearly broke the regulations.

But no, maybe there's not much they can do. Perhaps we're just set for five years of Vettel and Red Bull winning everything. Yet if that's the case, viewing figures will drop. Unless you're a Vettel / Red Bull fan, you're not going to want to watch that.

If it was Hamilton or Button that was dominating nobody would have any problems :boring:

You have any evidence for that, or are you plucking those accusations out of your arse in order to further a particular agenda?

There are plenty on these boards who can't stand Lewis Hamilton. I'm sure there are others who dislike Button; there are certainly a good number who dislike McLaren.

And besides which, I'm not entirely sure of your point? It's already been clearly acknowledged that people who are fans of a particular person / team will enjoy their dominance; it's everyone else who will find it boring and start to resent them. For feck's sake, this is a Manchester United forum. You don't get much more dominant than that, and yet we all revel in it. And that's because we're the ones benefitting from that dominance. United fans weren't so giddy when Liverpool were winning everything in sight, but that's the nature of being a fan.

For everyone else, though, it's fecking dull. So Hamilton's fans, or Button's fans, would love watching them win. Everyone else (including the casual viewers), would find it boring, because it would be.

Next time you waltz in with some fantastic one-liner in order to dismiss the concerns of the doubters, you might want to make sure it actually makes sense.

How highly would you all rate it, if Alonso managed to win the title this year?

Incredibly. He's by far the most talented driver out there at the moment. Massa shows where the Ferrari should be, yet Alonso wrestles it into second? Amazing. I don't think he will win the championship this year, but he deserves to. History won't remember that he was the best driver all season long.

Agree with this 100%

For the first time ever, I'm hoping Ferrari find some pace in their updates. Alonso was supreme today.

Yep, i agree. I really hope Vettel retires in a race so we have a stunning finale. I believe if it goes down to the last race, Alonso will win it. He'll learn from 2010.

I think everyone rates him highly. Winning the title again this year would just cement his place among excellent drivers.

I was talking about this title, rather than him as a driver considering most people on the forum think he's the best driver in f1 right now. Quite right too.

I don't really understand the notion that Alonso 'deserves' to win the Championship due to him doing well with his car and outshining his teammate. Massa only started driving competently about 4 or 5 races ago, so he's not exactly much of a yardstick anyway, but there are other drivers who outperform their team mates. Does Rosberg 'deserve' the title because he's scored more than double the number of points than Scumacher? Or Raikkonen for dominating Grosjean?

To suggest that Alonso deserves is means that you think Vettel doesn't, and why is that? He's dominated Webber all season long as well and he's put in some fantastic drives. I'm not knocking Alonso, he's a fecking incredible driver, but he doesn't deserve anything any more than some of the other drivers.

I'm not saying he deserves to win it because he's better than Massa, I don't think anyone is :wenger:

Massa is only mentioned because he's showing how good the Ferrari really is, whereas Alonso is dragging it up to fight the Red Bulls. Vettel is consistently beating Webber, yes, but Webber is only finishing a place or two behind him, because the car is so strong.

Alonso is doing so well despite the car, whereas Vettel is helped by it (which is not to say he's not an incredibly talented racing driver).

And mentioning Raikkonen and Rosberg is completely irrelevent because they're not one of the two racers battling for the lead of the championship right now.

Perhaps it's both? Don't forget this is a guy who almost won the World Championship, so he's hardly terrible. And Ferrari have confirmed him for next year, which would suggest they don't think they could get anyone better - so he can't be terrible, else he'd be out the door.

It's just that Alonso is that good.

You referenced Massa, which is why I responded to it, so there's really no need for that stupid smilie is there?

You say that Massa shows where the Ferrari should be, and Alonso is dragging it further up the standings. So I'm saying Grosjean is showing where the Lotus should be, and Kimi is dragging it up the standings, what's the difference?

Massa was appalling for the majority of the season so far, so as I originally said, he isn't a good yardstick.

Mentioning the other drivers is irrelevant because they're further down the standings? Well Alonso is further down than Vettel, so I could argue he's irrelevant. The fact is I was only reinforcing the point that doing miles better than your team mate doesn't mean you deserve the WDC.
