The F1 Thread 2012 Season

Delighted for Seb. Great guy.

Not too sure that Webber "allowed" him to pass and it was all strategy. He gave it a good go on the long straight immediately after. Vettel was just the faster car today.

I thought the move was inevitable but I thought it would have been a few more years down the line.

Wow, never thought it was possible.

Vettel to Ferrari, BBC is running with it.

It was always going to be the move...people just thought it would take a few more years. But with Alonso 31 now, and 33 by the time the move happens, it makes sense.

Sebastian Vettel to join Ferrari in 2014, but Massa remains for 2013

Double world champion Sebastian Vettel is set to join Ferrari in 2014, with Felipe Massa staying at the Italian team for 2013.

Sources inside Ferrari say they have signed a contract with Vettel, 25, with an option to join in 2014 depending on their results. The contract is likely to define a position Ferrari must occupy in the title race at a point in 2013.
Vettel's potential arrival at Ferrari has been sanctioned by Fernando Alonso.

The Spaniard, 31, has a say in the identity of his team-mate and vetoed the idea of Lewis Hamilton joining the team earlier this year.
Alonso won the world title in 2005 and 2006 when at Renault but hasn't finished higher than second with Ferrari.

Red Bull driver Vettel currently leads the world championship by six points from Alonso, having won the title in 2010 and 2011.

Should it transpire, the line-up would undoubtedly be the strongest in F1 - with potential for huge friction.

Vettel and Red Bull have denied the German has any arrangements in place with Ferrari, and the team insist he is under contract until the end of 2014.
However, Red Bull adviser Dr Helmut Marko - the right-hand man of the company's boss Dietrich Mateschitz - has already said the contract contains performance clauses and if Vettel wants to leave, Red Bull could not make him stay.

Hamilton has recently signed a three-year deal to join Mercedes, Alonso is under contract to Ferrari until the end of 2016 and Jenson Button is under contract to McLaren until the end of 2014.

Montezemolo denies Vettel rumours
ESPN Staff
October 15, 2012

Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo has denied reports that Sebastian Vettel will join the team at the end of 2013.

Felipe Massa is expected to sign a one-year deal to remain with Ferrari next season, with a BBC report stating that he is a stop-gap before Vettel joins the following season. While rumours that Vettel has a pre-contract agreement with Ferrari have been ongoing for a number of months, the fact that Ferrari allowed Sergio Perez to join McLaren only added to the speculation.

Vettel is under contract until the end of 2014, however, and although Helmut Marko has previously revealed there are performance-related clauses that would allow him to leave, di Montezemolo says he wants a clear number one and number two driver line-up.

"I've always said that I don't want two roosters in the hen-house," Montezemolo told Italy's Radio1 I don't like that and it creates instability in the team."

Denial might not mean anything, then again...

Vettel wants to emulate his hero Schumacher and that'll involve moving to Ferrari at some point and winning titles.

Interestingly Alonso has previously stated that he doesnt think Vettel is as good as Hamilton so perhaps going toe to toe with Seb in the same car is something he's open to.

It would be great to see.

Until Seb sits in the same car as an Alonso or a Hamilton we won't truly know how good he is, no disrespect to Webber but he isn't on the same level as those guys.

Honestly I think Seb would prove to be on that level if not better, even if he becomes a 3 time world champion the car will always take an edge off the credit he is due. During this year when his car wasn't the best in any particular race he hasn't really stood out, especially not when you look at what Alonso did with his, racing against Alonso in the same team becomes the real test and I hope it happens.

The BBC story has gone from balls deep story to pussy footing around in the space of a day.

9am - Vettel to join Ferrari in 2014
12pm - Vettel might join Ferrari in 2014
Now - Ferrari plan for arrival of Sebastian Vettel

Unless EJ says it on there i'll be taking their stories with a pinch of salt!

In fairness, Massa's really stepped it up over the last couple of races. And since Ferrari foolishly allowed Perez to go to McLaren, there's no one else out there they can take, really.

I saw that a week or so ago, brilliant. Seb is a great character, I'll never get the hate for him.

I don't hate him as a person. He's lovely, charming, witty and intelligent. But I do hate Red Bull, with a passion. When / if he leaves for Ferrari I'll be delighted to watch him win.

I hate that drastic upgrades are allowed during the season and so it seems by default Red Bull will be winning for the foreseeable future, but I certainly don't hate Vettel.

But like United dominating the prem, anyone dominating a sport is going to be loathed by people. However charming and funny he may be.

Completely forgot quali was at a different time today.

The finger for pole and then I reckon Hamilton for P2 and Button for P3.

Let me guess, Vettel will have a final lap finishing the last of the runners and will have pole with something crazy like 0.5 seconds in front of second place.

Did everyone switch off?! I was't able to watch it because my broadband is too shit to even support a low quality stream

Vettel
Webber
Hamilton
Button
Alonso
Massa

Unless he has a problem or makes a huge error at the start, Vettel lead from start to finish, like in the previous three races!

First quali I have missed all season, it was just too predicatable to even bother with. I might watch the race if I wake up in time.

You just want me to suffer watching Vettel dominate whilst Webber scrambles around at the start then proceeds to hold everyone up just before Hamilton's gearbox goes puff, Button falls back 10 places with balance issues, Alonso cruises to a championship losing 3rd after Massa gives him it by going to sleep on the prime tyre as Maldonado crashes into Grosjean who is already crashing into Raikkonen who was slow because it wasn't warm enough as Vettel wins by a minute and Christian Horners teeth snaggle through my TV set causing me to rage and not enjoy my Sunday dinner.

feck you Rado_N, Nick whatever you go by these days.

Such is my anger for the pathetic build up sky does I decided to skip the build up show. Just tuned in, the build up is still on....

feck sake:mad:

The only thing that makes me feel more aggressive watching F1 is Ben Edwards.

Yeah the grid walk is great, Brundle is the only good thing about the entire Sky team, when that cuntface said "lets take a trundle with Brundle" a few minutes ago I actually wished I was able to gouge his eyes out.
