The F1 Thread 2010 Season

Fair fecks if they had gone to such lengths to disguise it! I don't for a second think so, but it is odd

Anyway, team orders are effectively allowed now following the Ferrari ruling, so no need to go to such lengths to hide it

well thay are if you can swollow the fine ,they set the standard with only fineing Ferrari , if the same happens again there is no way they can give anything else.

Hard to believe the size of Button's rear wing, I mean its clearly the biggest of all the F-Duct solutions, surely they could have developed a smaller spec wing than that, I think thats what's won Ferrari the race today.

What do you guys think of the Red Bull speed on what Martin Brundle was saying there has been a drop since all these investigations can't just be the track can it.

It's a power circuit but I definatly think Red Bull have lost some pace, they will be quickest again once we get to Singapore.

Why don't the BBC shoot this in HD? They're feckin' useless.

It's not upto the BBC to shoot it, FOM shoot it yet Bernie says there isnt enough interest in using HD equipment. Even British F3 will be using HD next season, thats how behind the times F1 is.

yeah I know that ,but was it planned that he did most of the race one set of rubber , when no other team did.

Soft tyre was quicker, I don't think anyone thought it would last.

BBC don't shoot F1. Its shot by FOM who then syndicate out to people like the BBC. It essentially boils down to Bernie being a tight arse.

Fair enough. Wonder what their excuse for not shooting MOTD in HD is!

Its less then a race win . Two years ago people were creaming themselves over a 19 point gap between 4 drivers.

Its crazy isn't it the way people ruled Vettle out the title race hasn't the last 2 races shown one week your out of it next your back in it.

It's mad how tight it is back at the top again. Good stuff. Sadly I think the last five races will all be Red Bull tracks, so the pack might have caught up here but they're about to be left for dead once again.

That was a fantastic drive by Button, most of that first stint must have been close to flat out qualifying style driving

Shame his pitstop let him down, 0.8s slower than Alonso's, and that was ultimately where it was lost

Interesting to hear that was already Alonso's 8th engine. That could cause issues with five more races to go. I'll be very interested to see Singapore, as the Hungarian GP was 1st August, then a two week shutdown, will have been the best part of six weeks for McLaren to close the gap to Red Bull and Ferrari in the higher downforce tracks

This is good. Alonso just 21 pts behind Webber, how much is he behind Hami now? Come on Nando, Webber, Vettel and Button!

Alonso has little chance of using just the same engine in all 5 races. He will have to change it and get a grid penalty. The engine situation almost rules him out of the championship.

Ah, that doesn't mean the previous seven engines are all broken

I'd like to see more information from this coming from the FIA, was watching a MotoGP the other week, and they showed how many unused engines they had, and how many were broken, there should be similar for F1

Never rule out Fernando. It puts him in a bad place but he can easily come back even from a grid penalty, as long as his car holds up for the remaining races. The Ferrari has just not been as consistent as the Red Bull over the course of the season sadly.

It may not mean that all engines are broken but the fact that Ferrari chose to replace engines that aren't broken perhaps indicates that they don't believe the engines can provide the performance needed for competing at the top.

Well, it's not surprising that they used a brand new engine for Monza is it?

I think it's an issue for Alonso and Ferrari, I don't really know enough to know what the drop-off is for engines after they've been used for a race-weekend in terms of percentage. I guess where the issue could be is that it may limit their running in Free Practices. But we'll just have to wait and see, unless someone has some insight into the engines and how many miles each one has done

Agreed Red Bull had the same problem last year which ended up costing them.

But on to the 8 engine penalty I always thought once you use all 8 thats it your out till next year or a massive point deduction. So after you use 8 when every race you start with the 9th engine you start with a grid penalty.

I don't think so, I think it's a one-off penalty for the race you use the 9th, take De La Rosa for instance, he has used another engine hasn't he

EDIT
He has, and obviously he's only suffered that 10 place grid drop once

Looks like Heidfeld could be replacing De La Rosa for the Singapore GP and beyond...and Lotus have agreed with Cosworth to get out of their deal for next season, so expect an announcement on Renault soon

McLaren definatly have stepped forward on high downforce, the have worked out how to effectively use the blown diffuser and obviously have developed everywhere else too. I still think this is too much a Red Bull circuit for them to be beat but I guess we will know more come Saturday.

Seems like wet weather forecast, so that could help the McLarens, they seem the best in the wet from what we've seen

Definatly should help them, Hamilton and Button tend to do well in the wet anyway. I think its forecast for day time rain though and apparently it doesn't rain too much after 6pm, even so it makes the track greener throughout which helps teams that find a base setup quickly.
