The F1 Thread 2010 Season

Can't see Delhi getting the track ready in time though if their prepartations for the CWG are anything to go by.

He knows how to build an aesthetically pleasing venue, his track designs leave alot to be desired.

Bernie wanted to cancel Interlagos because they didn't have good enough bathrooms. So we know whats important when track selection is made.

Its funny how F1 doesn't learn. Most years its Canada, Spa, Monaco, Monza, Interlagos and a couple of other tracks that produce great races. Common thing being in all of them that they are challenging and different. Great tracks produce good racing.

I just hope it doesn't turn into a Turkey situation where by local people cant afford to go watch the race.

You mean for India?

We have plenty of rich folks in Delhi who can more than afford to watch the race. The same ones who have probably gone to Malaysia to see it already. Let us see if the price allows others to witness it as well. But F1 has a big following here, the craze to get in for the first GP would be huge.

I'm referring to price for others, Turkeys problem is exactly how you've described India. Rich folks can afford it, the genuine normal working population cant in Turkey.

The key to new tracks in F1 building some history/prestige is by making them as accessible as possible to the locals.

The McLarens are setting the early pace in FP1, 7 tenths faster than the Ferrari's behind them. Obviously it's only practice but it could be their weekend here.

I'd take the latter times with a pinch of salt, those cars that know they have the capability were doing some heavy fuel sessions & data mining to get all the info they need for the race.

I'd expect a McLaren car on the front row tomorrow at the very least.

i reckon a mclaren front row and a mclaren 1-2 in the race with JB winning

im slightly biased though :D

Hamilton saying in his post-qualifying interview that he hugely regrets his set-up because his car is sliding all over the place. Another example of Jenson's more mature and cooler head, maybe?

I don't know, perhaps it was sliding all over, but I bet being so close behind Webber on his final run didn't help, that wasn't good by him

Podium could be difficult from 5th for him, he'll need someone to go off ahead of him, but should be able to at least beat Webber with that engine in the tow

EDIT
Run to the first corner has got to be a great opportunity for Button and that downforce, surely that will help him get off the line better

I dont know if its a mature or cooler choice, its just a case of him deciding that a bulkier wing gives him more control for his driving style.

The only fear doing something like that is he'll be a sitting duck on the straights in comparison to others. Given that Monza is about 60-70% straights, will give Jenson a bit of a long Sunday afternoon.

Maybe. But will they be able to follow him through the Lesmos and Parabolica, it's not going to be easy to stay close to someone round those corners, especially as he'll have higher speed through them

I don't think it will be easy for him, but he's got a chance imo

And re the speed difference...

From James Allen's blog...

Although he is shown as 12km/h slower on the speed trap than Alonso in the qualifying print outs, there was a tow involved in that and the difference through the individual speed traps of each sector is very consistently 4km/h. So if he can get ahead of Alonso at the stops, he will not be a sitting duck to be repassed on the straights.

Hopefully a good race is coming up , cant see anybody but Alonso winning.
But if Button can get his downforce working in his favour he will cause problems , dont see Hamilton doing much from his grid position

Alonso wants this and Button has to be careful, 2nd or 3rd is still a great result for Button considering the pace of Ferrari today.

Hey? The only reason China is ever exciting is because of the weather. Take it away and its a very very average circuit. Same with Sepang and Yas Marina has shown nothing other then looking very pretty as you said.

The world of motorracing needs a new track builder, but while Bernie has him in his pocket, it will never happen.

F1 tracks have lost their uniqueness and its rather sad. Tracks like the A1 ring and old Hockenheim were brilliant.

Well I was trying to be generous. Sepang is unique and atleast has some overtaking appeal. Yas Marina still has time, last year provided a decent race. Shanghai, yeah usually because of the weather but again the odd place to overtake.

Tilke Decent Tracks does not necessarily mean as good as older tracks.

Button not getting much help from the backmarkers, lucky to escape that.
