Rubens Barrichello has threatened to quit Formula 1 if he finds out his Brawn team are favouring Jenson Button.

The Brazilian lost Sunday's Spanish Grand Prix to his team-mate after boss Ross Brawn changed Button's strategy.

"If I get the slightest sniff of the fact that they have favoured Jenson, I will hang up my helmet tomorrow," he told United States channel SpeedTV.

"But I know Ross wouldn't do that. He asked me to drive for him and he knows I want to race fairly with Jenson."

----

Ross wouldn't do that? Has he forgotten about his entire Ferrari career?!

See ya Rubens. The strategy was always his choice and the 3 stopper was the fastest of the lot but Rubens simply did not get the job done on his 3rd stint, in fact he was slower by nearly 8 tenths a lap than Jenson who had done 29 laps on the same tyres.

Notorious moaner is Rubens though, if its not perfect he will always be average, if it is he is as fast as anyone. Jenson won this race on his long middle stint, simple as.

And I might add, if he doesnt start matching or beating Jenson before halfway he will be No.2 whether he likes it or not.

I like Rubens, cant see him going anywhere. Feel a bit sorry for him as he has always been a number two.

I used to like Rubens, but now he is just a perpetual moaner.

He repeatedly moans about his number 2 status at Ferrari yet while he was there he kept signing new contracts. If it was so bad Rubens why did you want to stay so much?

Fact is Rubens was allways outperformed by Schumacher and is currently being outperformed by Button and it seems a convenient excuse for him now to repeatedly come up with team orders and the fact he is the number 2 driver.

Tis a shame he has turned into such a miserable bitter person to hear nowadays, at Ferrari he was my favourite and now i just cringe whenever he spouts this shit all the time.

He should really just grow up, he chose to stay at Ferrari even though he knew the deal...as much as i dislike team orders Rubens was perfectly happy to stay with Ferrari

Did you just type the same thing 3 times in that post?

Probably

Rubens irritates me so much lately i'm repeating myself when it comes to talking about him

I am not one of these people that think F1 wouldn't be the same without Ferrari, but I wouldn't want them to leave.

But throwing out ultimatums because they can't get their own way, tiring. Ferrari know that if the £40 milllion cap comes in they will have to use it to be competitive, this would mean they lose alot of staff but it also means they would be losing alot more than that, the big teams know the smaller teams will catch up and they simply don't want that.

I always thought they had a point F1 is the pinnacle of motorsport with the best technology but with the financial climate like it is there has to be changes. I hope the FIA don't give in to them I don't want them to leave but good riddance to them if they can't cope with the cap.

Ferrari moaning and threatening to quit in 2010 if the salary cap isn't changed.

Bye bye Ferrari.

Eh they're not the only ones moaning...Red Bull, Renault and Toyota so far have stated that they won't compete in a 2 tier championship next season. But go on have your Ferrari bash while your at it.

I say its about time, i am sick to death of Max Mosely and the FIA throwing they're ridiculous rule changes for every season the last few years its about time teams are gonna stand up to them, and believe me i reckon Ferrari are gonna start getting support from other teams with this.

These teams have staff of around 700...are you all for all these teams firing most of these staff to meet this 40 million budget cap? F1 is the pinnacle of motorsport but that wont be for long if the FIA and Max keep getting their way.

Has turned me from a die hard fan from the 90's as a casual watcher....IMO the sport is being ruined by the FIA and finally teams are starting to properly stand up to them

Well it is the pinnacle, but I agree with the sentiment that it should be the pinnacle for ingenuity and excellence, rather than whoever has the biggest bank balance

Ferrari are already paid the most by a mile to compete in F1, and the FIA has bent over backwards for them down the years, to an almost farcical extent

You never want to lose any of the big teams, but at some point, if you think you're doing the right thing and they won't play ball, you just gotta call their bluff

i hope ferrari just feck off...

how boring would it be if they could just spend enough money untill they had a car than could win all the gp's

Well que the others threatening to quit...

French manufacturer Renault has joined Ferrari in announcing that it will not be participating in next year's Formula One Championship if the 2010 regulations remain as they currently stand.

The liberty granted to budget-capped teams, the manner in which the FIA imposes the rules and other matters have triggered a serious conflict between the Formula One Teams Association and the sport's governing body, with additional team announcements expected.

Renault statement:

"The decision of the Federation International de l'Automobile (FIA) to introduce two sets of Formula One technical regulations for the 2010 Formula One season has caused the Renault Group to reconsider its entry in next year's FIA Formula One World Championship.

There is frustration that FOTA's constructive proposals, including major cost saving measures to be adopted progressively between 2009 and 2012, which were carefully constructed by FOTA members, have been completely ignored without any form of consultation by the FIA with the teams.

It should be stressed that FOTA has set the same, if not lower, financial objective as the FIA, but Renault strongly believes that this must be introduced through a different procedure agreed by all parties.

Renault also believes that it is paramount that the governance of the sport is coordinated with a spirit of consultation with all parties (FIA, FOM, FOTA) in order to achieve a better balance between the costs and the revenues.

Renault is also of the firm view that all entrants in the World Championship must adhere to and operate under the same regulations.

President of the ING Renault F1 Team, Bernard Rey, commented: "Renault has always considered Formula One as the pinnacle of motor sport and the perfect stage to demonstrate technical excellence. We remain committed to the sport, however we cannot be involved in a championship operating with different sets of rules, and if such rules are put into effect, we will be forced to pull out at the end of this season."

ING Renault F1 Team Managing Director, Flavio Briatore, commented: "Our aim is to reduce costs while maintaining the high standards that make Formula One one of the most prestigious brands on the market. We want to achieve this in a coordinated manner with the regulatory and commercial bodies, and we refuse to accept unilateral governance handed out by the FIA. If the decisions announced by the World Council on the 29th of April 2009 are not revised, we have no choice but to withdraw from the FIA Formula One World Championship at the end of 2009."

Time to end the special treatment of Ferrari, once and for all

Ed Gorman

http://timesonline.typepad.com/form...al-treatment-of-ferrari-once-and-for-all.html

"Everyone has known for years that Ferrari, who are today launching a legal action in Paris against the FIA to try to stop the budget cap, has special treatment in Formula One. The Italian luxury sports car manufacturer is regarded by both Bernie Ecclestone, the sport's commercial rights holder and Max Mosley, the president of the FIA, as the goose that lays Formula One's golden eggs, giving the championship a touch of class, glamour and historical continuity.

It is for this reason that when the Scuderia wins the manufacturers' world championship it is paid £55 million more than any other team, something which would be utterly untenable in any other sport. Imagine Chelsea having a special deal with the FA under which it was paid tens of millions of pounds more than Manchester United or Arsenal for winning the Premier League - the notion would be laughed out of court.

Over the last two weeks, however, another more secret deal in Ferrari's favour has emerged in the course of the budget capping row, but this time it is not with Ecclestone but with the FIA. It appears that when the Italian team abandoned a breakawaway move in 2004/05 by team bosses fed up with being starved of income by Ecclestone and returned to the FIA fold, not only did Ecclestone agree special financial arrangements for them, Mosley agreed to Ferrari having an exclusive veto over changes to the technical rules in the sport"

Pretty pathetic really. All those who've argued Ferrari haven't had preferential on track decisions ought to just have a think about things in the light of this

im looking foward to the monaco grand prix, always been my favourite race of the season, although i cant understand some people dislike towards as they say its like a procession with no overtaking, but i find it a good race, hopefully button can get another win

Ferrari slams quality of new teams

By Jonathan Noble Wednesday, May 20th 2009, 12:30 GMT

Ferrari has blasted the quality of entries being lined up to join Formula 1 next year - even going so far as saying the sport would perhaps be better off rebranded as 'Formula GP3'.

Shortly prior to finding out that it had lost its legal bid to prevent the FIA introducing a £40 million voluntary budget cap in F1 for next year, Ferrari vented its frustration at the teams hoping to make the step up to motor racing's premier category.

As AUTOSPORT revealed earlier today, the court case that took place in Paris yesterday revealed the list of teams serious about joining F1 was Wirth Research, Lola, USF1, Epsilon Euskadi, RML, Formtech, Campos and iSport.

These teams, and the FIA, claimed that if Ferrari's legal bid was successful and the entry deadline for 2010 was delayed by an injunction, then they would have little chance of getting things in place to be ready to race next year.

Ferrari has said it is shocked at the entries - and does not believe they are the kind of teams that will enhance F1's image.

"They couldn't almost believe their eyes, the men and women working at Ferrari, when they read the papers this morning and found the names of the teams, declaring that they have the intention to race in Formula 1 in the next year," said a statement issued on Ferrari's website.

"Looking at the list, which leaked yesterday from Paris, you can't find a very famous name, one of those one has to spend 400 Euros per person for a place on the grandstand at a GP (plus the expenses for the journey and the stay) [to see]."

The statement added: "Can a world championship with teams like them - with due respect - have the same value as today's Formula 1, where Ferrari, the big car manufacturers and teams, who created the history of this sport, compete? Wouldn't it be more appropriate to call it Formula GP3?"

I love this circuit! Unlike Hamilton.

Come on Brawn.

Stupid thing to do by Hamilton. He had a time, which would've got him through to the next round. He had no reason to push, apart from satisfying his ego.

Erm? He was knocked out in the first round in the end. But nice of you to out yourself as a chump all the same

What's going on today? These cars struggling with the Monaco circuit? Quite a lot of them have been sliding into the barriers. Promises to be carnage tomorrow, might be back to the old days of only having a handful of finishers!

I hardly think he was pushing too hard in that sector, he just lost control.

He loves it, he's usually ace here.

That's why he was looking forward to this weekend.

I meant today. Shame he made a mistake but this circuit is very unforgiving.

I once went round it at speed on the back of a motorbike....shit myself.

I've decided I am going to the MC GP 2010.

I can imagine! How fast you get up to?

And class, I've been there, but never to the GP.

I've decided I am going to the MC GP 2010.

I might see you out there Marching, something that has to be done. I've been to Monza and Silverstone, but Monaco is the one. Like you did with your bike, I'd just like to drive around the roads!

Cracking last minute or so of qualifying, well done Button!!! Hope the race lives up to that precedent

I pushed my grandad round the corner in his wheel chair.

:D

No idea, I had my eyes shut. I was staying with a friend who lived there and we were late to go somewhere...decided to go on motorbikes and I pulled the short straw with a lift from a mad French guy who thought it would be a laugh to scare the Englishman. I'm sure (and hope) it wasn't as fast as it felt but I certainly refused the offer a ride back to our appartment.

I love the place and have been lucky enough to go a couple of times a year for quite a while now.

That was an immense pole by Button, best of his career I think.

It so has to be done! Been promising myself a trip to it for yonks now. I've been to quite a few GP's at Silverstone and was at the 1982 Belgian Grand Prix at Zolder when Gilles Villeneuve was killed.

Great last gasp effort from Button at the end there. Should be a great race.

Can't wait for this tomorrow. My favourite race!
I'm stuck at home this weekend because of the workload I've left for last minute, but I'm gonna sneak out tomorrow and watch this (don't have the channel at home unfortunately).

Had a couple of bets today, don't usual bet on F1 but it's Monaco, anything can happen! Have a fiver on Webber to finish ahead of Rosberg, Kovaleinen and Alonso, and also had a fiver on Sutil to score a points finish
