The F1 Thread 2009 Season

It should be that if 3/4 of the laps have been completed and the race is stopped, all points are awarded.
Below 3/4 (as in this case) only HALF the points are awarded (winner 5 point, second place 4 points etc.)
Or they might start the race again to complete the 56 laps.

They won't start this again, when it rains in Malaysia it wont stop. Button is gonna win again, but half points.

it will be pitch black in about half an hour so it wont get started again and i very much doubt it was restart, which is a shame

Rain to stop in 20 minutes

Race has to be completed within 2 hours

Interesting

they have to give 10 mins notice before it restarts

so that mean they would be driving for 10 minutes under the safety car, so i cant see anyone wanting to restart it, as they are more than likely to lose places under safety car than if they just keep current position

Yeah rain stopping buy I doubt the track will drain away quick enough. All I can see happening is them crusing around under the SC until lap 42 to avoid the half points.

Betfair better pay out on Button! Brawn did well in the rain considering they'd never tested in Inters/Wets.

they have to do 10 more laps, cant see them doing that under the safety car before the time runs out

What an incredible race so far though. Button is flying there, and can't believe with 4 stops he's still in the lead. I reckon none of the drivers feel like getting out there now, looks dangerous..

The Ross Brawn effect, genius at strategy

From the BBC, and historical precedent why today could be very costly for Button:

1122: If we don't restart, positions will be taken from the penultimate lap, meaning the one-two-three will be Button, Glock, Heidfeld. Behind them: Trulli, Barrichello, Hamilton, Rosberg, Webber. Mark Webber will receive a mere half a point for eighth position, the amount by which Alain Prost lost the world championship in 1984. The Monaco Grand Prix was stopped at half-distance while the Frenchman was leading.

If you have Sky press the red button and select option 1, then you can select different commentaries.

Is Webber a bit of a lemon? They're complaining that it's getting too dark to race, but for crying out loud we'd still be going now during a normal race

If the rain eases off, and they can get the cars round to complete 75% of the laps, it's worth doing so we can have proper race classification, even if it's just done under the safety car

Rain has definitely eased off, not stopped though

They want this 75% distance for reasons other than racing.

they are making everyone relap themselves, whats the point of that

We're about to have a 'race' where everyone slowly follows the safety car around until we've reached an artificial point where maximum points are allowed. I wouldn't be asking too many questions about "the point" of it all right now, it'll send you loopy!

This is ridiculous. The track is a river, it will tough for them just to get around under the SC, imagine if they are just gonna cruise to the end only for someone like Button or Glock to have a problem. Silly.
