Well I can only speak for myself. I've compiled a list of players (16) that won't look that much out of sorts 4 of them are keepers - courtois, de gea, Leno and Oblak. Others are outfield players. If I got beaten for those(wanted Kroos, but he's now more than wha I'm willing to spend) I have fallback options - all of them outfield players, but we will see :) it's not like I intend to put a random joe on goal, I rate Leno very high and despite keepers nowadays not being as good as say 15 years ago, IMO he's one of the few that have the potential to be the best of their era.

Well it was obviously an error as I didn't even need to bid so high on mascherano! As I said though if people get pissed off about it I'll take the punishment otherwise someone outbid me on one of them and we carry on.

Fine by me. But it's important that people take note of this - because others may have misunderstood too, i.e. thinking that you can - in practice - bid considerably more than you have, gambling on not having to pay up the full amount.

The only more or less sane reason I can think of is that Skizzo/Pat intend to use him in one particular system (which was what I had in mind myself, as one possible scheme) - in which he is clearly above anyone else available.

I suppose EAP can remove the confirmed ones by and by, and add them to the roster on page 1. Along with the amount the player went for - that's probably prudent.

At any rate, we can't maintain an updated section of confirmed ones in this thread - that would make the list too messy. Many more players will be nominated.

There was nothing particularly sane about that bidding war in fairness :lol:. We will probably depend on our full backs to provide width and he was the best available. Also, we didn't come out of the DOFI rounds particularly brimming with star quality compared to some lucky feckers, so we really need to get our first XI as strong as possible for the first round to give ourselves a fighting chance of going through, rather than concerning ourselves with future proofing/squad depth and whatnot.

EDIT: It'll be a bit gutting having spent big on a full back if the player released back into the pool ends up being Platini or Ronaldo!

Never thought about it, but releasing a GOAT back in the pool is quite problematic: Depending on when the feck-up is discovered and sanctioned (and that is arbitrary, of course), someone could gain a huge edge by having more money to burn than the rest - and for no other reason than another manager blowing his budget.

Strikes me as dubious. But then again, it would be fun.

Anyway - Cabrini, yes. I get the argument, of course - and I was thinking along similar lines myself. The fact of the matter is, though, that he represented one possible scheme on my part: He would've worked well in other schemes too, but in those he wasn't an essential piece of the puzzle - so spending that kind of dosh on him would've been a bit extravagant. We'll see, though - perhaps it was a mistake not fighting you to the bitter end. Could end up with nothing (relatively speaking, of course). Price would've ended up in the hilarious range, though, if we had kept going.
