The Criteria Draft - The Drafts

rpitroda vs edogen on Monday
EAP vs Boris Wednesday
Stobzilla/KM vs VJ/crappy Wednesday
fromTheBench vs Aldo Monday
paceme vs Chesterlestreet Tuesday
noPace vs Snow/NM Tuesday
The red viper vs bigdunc9 Tuesday
Cutch vs Annah Friday

We need someone to possibly step in for Annah. Is there anyone willing to do so?

Also, can someone set the games up for tomorrow? I will unfortunately not be able to do that tomorrow therefore we will send our Monday tactics to whoever sets them up. Kick off around 9-10am.

Finally, for all other days, pleases end your tactics to me.

I'll aim to kick off all games at around 9am-10am.

@Aldo @EDogen @FromTheBench

Aldo and FromTheBench I still haven't got anything from you!

Also been busy today to do my write up but will send over by 10am tomorrow.

Aldo can you set up mine and Edogens game? If so we can PM you our shizzle.

I can set up your game around that time.

I'm bored, so, top three picks per criteria, based on ability:

90-99 caps: Ronaldinho, Nedved, Blanc
<30 caps: Redondo, Toldo, Ginola
No league title: Gerrard, Mendieta, Reus
Ballon: Maldini, Zidane, Cristiano
Born in different country: Viera, Desailly, Seedorf
3 countries: Ronaldo, Romario, Hagi
Lost WC final: Messi, Baggio, Costacurta
8/9. Rui Costa/Batistuta, Beckham/Raul, Kaka/Cafu
Country outside top 30: Stoichkov, Keane, Eto'o
10 years 1 club: Nesta, Iniesta, Pirlo
Never played in European club competition: Le Tissier, Des Walker, Marcos.

Open to change/ridicule.

Sent mine.

Also I think I forgot the mention that no one picked Stojkovic? I thought he would surely go for the outside top 30 names. I already a number 10 so just couldn't fit him in.

Well hello everyone. Ill get the profiles and write up done asap and sent over as soon as I can. See how much fluff I can come up with for Bebe :)

You don't have Bebe, you have Sinama-Pongolle. Bebe actually won a league title with us, no medal but was in the squad and played a couple of games so it counts.

Picking each player only once, at the criteria where they'd give you the most bang for your buck:

I'd have:

90-99 caps: Ronaldinho, Ronaldo Lima, Lizarazu
Lizarazu well ahead of the next group of defenders (Blanc aside). Ronaldinho gets first because he was miles better than the average LW drafted whereas the 9 position had a ton of depth overall.

<30 caps: Redondo, Senna, Felipe Luis
Redondo clear #1, Senna a solid #2 and then a bunch of competent fullbacks and keepers. I think Felipe Luis was probably the best FB in the world last year and is better defensively than guys like Pessotto, Birindelli and Carboni were going forwards.

No league title: Mendieta, Reus, Gerrard
I can't believe my own Thomas Hassler doesn't make this list, but I think I'd have him 4th, though we disagree on order. I really dislike Gerrard and the depth at CM/ACM is high so I had him 3rd. Not a ton of wide players scoring more than Reus.

Ballon: Zidane, Sammer, Henry
Maldini, Baggio and Xavi all fit other categories

Born in different country: Desailly, Viera, Seedorf
Desailly over Vieira for me. Agreed on the 3 names, though.

3 countries: Cristiano Ronaldo, Cafu, Roberto Carlos
Right back proved a weak position overall, so Cafu makes it after Cristiano and before Roberto Carlos (better LB's in general in the draft)

Lost WC final: Messi, Baggio, Robben,
How many better right-sided attackers than Robben will there be? Maybe 2? Feels weird to leave Kahn out, though.

8/9. Thuram/Cannavaro, Davids and Van Der Sar, Kohler/Lehmann
I'm not as big a Rui Costa guy, so they dropped out for me. The first pairing is a clear #1 for me and the other 2 are nice mixes of fine keepers and a genuine star.

Country outside top 30: Stoichkov, Nedved, Keane
Clear cut, just a question of how to rank them. Ultimately, CM's like Xabi Alonso and Vidal went undrafted, but a bunch of good but not great wide options were taken, so Keane drops to 3rd

10 years 1 club: Maldini, Xavi, Zanetti
Ultimately proved to be a very friendly category with top players unpicked (Puyol, Terry). Zanetti gets extra right back points.

Never played in European club competition: Des Walker, Marcos, ????
Des Walker seems a clear #1 to me. Marcos is a decent option at a weak-ish position. Don't love Le Tissier since it's hard to use him as a 10 and he can't really go anywhere else. Hated this category.

Guillermo Ochoa

Great stopper, was a monster in WC 2014.

Guillermo-Ochoa.jpg

Really happy with how the matches have gone so far. Both tight, and all 4 teams have weaknesses which can be exposed. Exactly what I was hoping with this type of draft so fingers crossed it continues into the latter games.

@rpitroda I'm finishing the write-up and whatnot as we speak - will send it to ya soon. I'll be occupied with all sorts of things all day long tomorrow, so it doesn't really matter when the match kicks off. Later is slightly better than earlier, though - but, again, it doesn't really matter. Whatever suits paceme best.

Signed by Liverpool at 16...never really got going. Scored an important goal for Blackburn once, in a 2-3 defeat to Spurs. Will flourish in the space afforded to him by the opponents ignoring him.
