The Criteria Draft - The Drafts

Whenever it's comfortable for you mate.

When we decide the date you would have to draw a formation and give a description of your team tactics and opposition instructions if any via PM to rpitroda. Since you are the home team in the fixture it is advised to keep the keeper at the top in the formation. I'll do the same and the match would begin which is a 24 hour poll.

Usually it's also a tradition, though dying a bit off late, to post "Player Profiles" in this thread, which is just a couple of lines for all players you have picked. But it's up to you if you want to do that, if you do the link would be added to the OP along with your tactical write up in the game thread and those who want to read it can do so via that link.

That's pretty much it, so let me know whenever you are okay. I can do it as early as tomorrow or even today evening (depending if trippy is available) but preferred would be tomorrow really so I don't have to hurry up with the write up. I'm not fussed either ways.

Cool thanks, @Theon told me about the detailed writeup part earlier and i have started working on it.

Probably would have Internet access only on my phone next 2/3 days though. Would after that be fine ? 4th ?

Stop talking about Alonso and arrange your matches!

Doesn't need to mate. Like Carrick just better, his intelligence and positioning more than makes up for lack of pace. I don't see that as a hindrance in any of the titles he won or teams he played.

Always thought of him as a rich man's Carrick. Sublime player.

I agree that some very decent players weren't picked - that's obvious. But glaring omissions? I don't know about that, really. You have to factor in how people picked - which categories they sought to get out of the way early, etc. There's a first rate DM/CM there - sure. Excellent category too - but who does he replace? And for whom?

As for Brian Laudrup...nah, come on. He was a good player, but unless you apply the old ad hominem in the extreme it's not exactly scandalous that he wasn't picked. One manager could have upgraded his team by picking him - that's about it.

The ones I pointed out were largely players cwho coould have done a job if that category was the leftover and any one position needed filling. Not glaring, just handy.

Alvarez was better than at least half the CMs on here, whether it was wise to tie up that position to someone you need to sell is a separate matter. Most of the keepers ended up going, but I'd argue Villar was better than either of Ospina or Ochoa, even if the latter are fresh in people's minds.

Re: Laudrup, we'll have to disagree. Sure, some picked a better player for it (e.g. Desailly), or a better player for the position (e.g. Figo), or a hard to better combination of both (e.g. Deco for criterion and Overmars for position). But any of the teams below would have been better off going for Laudrup:

1. VivaJanuzaj & Crappy - 9. Kanchelskis (straight upgrade)
2. The Red Viper -6. Traore (sheep for fecking up criterion), 9. Mata
3. Annahnomoss - 9. Pongolle (sheep for fecking up a different criterion with Hazard), 10. Mihajlovic
4. Cutch - 7. Camoranesi (straight upgrade)
9. BigDunc9 - 8. Reus, 9. R. Jones (could have been sheep for fecking up criterion),
14. NM / Snow - 9. Higuain (good luck upgrading him within the constraints)

That's 6/16, I'd call that a significant boob.

@NoPace when do you want to play? I prefer Mon-Thu. Fri-Sun is very difficult for me.

Alternately, if @Snow is around on weekends we can have the game then too I guess

8-10th I'm away. 14-21st I'm away as well. A school course that's only taught in the summer out in the country. Pretty much free every other day.

I supect many now gonna remember Higuian for fluffing his lines in the WC final
People remember what they want to remember. Some are stubborn enough to remember only that despite being reminded of other things.

WARRIOR PROFILES

StopperMan: - Patrik Andersson. A top stopper. A player with perfect positioning who can anticipate game situatations in advance, immensely strong in one-to-one situations, with a very good passing range and ability he is a bedrock for any stable defence. Though by his preferrance he is a defender, he is also capable of playing as a sweeper or a defensive midfielder.

It's a Wall...It's a Dam...It's StopperMan

Animal: -Pepe. A monstrous defender who tends to get physical in his encounters, he has been the mainstay for both Real Madrid and Portugal in his prime. There is nothing subtle about his defending. Vaguely reminiscent of Claudio Gentile, he charges at opponents and takes no prisoners.

I am smarter than the average bear

Marauder: - Maicon. One of the best Right Back's in the game, he is solid defensively with an ability of making emphatic runs down the right wing, often setting up goals or scoring himself with his powerful right foot. Stepping into Zanetti's shoes is not easy, however he has managed it with credit.

"I got something new for ya, Cowboy!

Golden Holder: - Mikel Arteta. A total multipurpose midfielder, he has has played as creative midfielder, left winger and how as a holding midfielder. A highly intelligent midfielder who relies on technique and positioning rather than strenth to defend, he also boasts of a astonishing 92% pass completion rate. His versatality would provide the valuable glue that keeps the team ticking over.

Damn, no mugs in THIS team

Growl: - Gennaro Gattuso. Uber aggressive, hard tackling player and in his prime was widely regarded as one of the best defensive midfielders in the world. Often moving forward to win the ball for the forward players and then returning to his defensive position, his style of play is characterised by fierce tackling and hard work. Nobody messes with the Ringhio.

Santi Claus: - Santi Cazorla. A versatile and ambidextrous attacking midfielder who can also play as a winger, he is possesseitn withspeed, shooting accuracy, capacity to change the rhythm of gameplay with excellent close control. A clever on the ball, with a cute first touch and a remarkable ability to link play and dictate the tempo of the game. His game is all about movement with clever vertical runs to collect possession and distribute quickly to the flanks, escaping the attention of his markers, and free to drive into space to shape incisive attacking counter attacks.Able to find clever pockets of space in between the lines, possessing the intelligence to know when to attempt the killer ball or simply keep the flow of the attack his pass record speaks for itself.

Don't be naughty

King: - Jari Litmanen. The man of the goals, the assists, the threats, the brains and the lungs. Anyone slated to step into bergkamp's shoes would have a hard time living up to expectations, but do it successfully to out shine his predecessor, takes a special kind of player and Litti is that special. With an outstanding 36 goals in 39 appearances (Ajax, 93-94) and 19 goals in 26 European appearances (1993-96) his lethality is beyond question.

Cool in the box, nerves stay home when Jari plays. He’s got a nose for the right position and has all the skills and techniques for scoring. He can head a ball, chip, shoot hard, use curves, whatever… He is king of the assist, works hard for the team and can play on many positions. Litmanen had perfect ball control. Chest, head, thigh, feet – left or right – he could do it all. Wonderful technique but only deployed in service of the team. Also played as a AM, he knew exactly when to pick his moment to join the striker in the box. The Fin is the best no. 10 Ajax ever had. A perfect team player.

Frank Rijkaard: "Dennis Bergkamp was brilliant for Ajax but the best No.10 we ever had was Jari."

Cannibal: - Luis Suarez. A player who packs a powerful shot and blessed with incredible aerial ability and remarkable technical skills. An intelligent striker who regularly evades defenders he has a incredible workrate and is lightning quick in his attacks from the outside. Not just scoring, his intelligence also allows him to regularly create opportunities for his strike partner to score.

"I had some Italian recently. Delicious!"

Spider Hands: - Lee Wong-jae. One of the most experienced and well-balanced goalkeeper in Asia, has been a member of the Korea Republic national football team since the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona. A specialist penalty stopper, he was part of Korea's 1994, 2002, and 2006 World Cup campaigns.
