Chap was born in Austria and played for Denmark?
Ah, OK. I was looking at 8/9 and Kohler/Effenberg link.
Who am I facing? Who will be my conqueror?
Chap was born in Austria and played for Denmark?
Ah ffs, I thought he was an Austrian born German.
The annoying thing was he popped up as playing with Effenberg (albeit for a year) at Fiorentina too, so I went past him twice. It was precisely for that purpose, throw people off track to research possible Austrian (i.e. Germans!). If I gave easy hints and someone got him the caf would have burnt down.
Yeah, tough draw for Trippy this.
And feck, who the hell knew about Laudrup he was born in Austria?!
Yes I knew. Thought he meant an actual Austrian. Antos clues were wrong. He doesn't fit criteria 8-9 with both Kohler and Effenberg.
so @antohan assuming my defense is Lahm-CB--De Boer--Zambrotta with Sammer as the Libero, would you have picked Carragher over Hyypia?
I agree @BorisDeLeFora
In that system, I would have picked Carragher.
He is better suited than Hyypia for that role. In De Boer, Sammer and Hyypia you have three centre backs are are sweepers. Hyypia isn't a natural sweeper but hope you get my point, as he wasn't an aggressive defender. Carragher was a stopper and he played as a full-back under Houllier. In De Boer and Carragher, you would then have two centre backs who can stretch out wide play as full-backs when the team attacks. This allows Sammer to play like a proper libero.
However, Hyypia is a better CB and I would always pick him ahead of Carragher in a four man defence.
Might as well add that Michael wasn't born in Denmark either. He was the first player I checked for this draft. It's the sort of stuff you find out when you know far too much about Michael Laudrup. His dad was a football player and that meant he lived in Austria briefly as a kid, so I figured Brian may well have been born there.
Next game is a French-fest
So you agreed with me over Hyypia right? I've lost track. Red viper also shook me a bitYeah, that's the gist of it, but as I said earlier, de Boer really needs a proper CB next to him. Excellent on the ball and as the outside left in a three, but by no means a great defender IMO. With Lahm being as solid an option as he is I would opt for Hyypia. Play Maicon there and I would have Carragher, no question.
Delighted to dodge EDogen and Annah. Let's see who I will meet

Issue is, De Boer himself likes to drive forward with the ball. So unless you have him in a reserved role, Hyypia would be left in a one on one condition with opposition striker at times and Carragher is better than Hyypia in that aspect as he was quicker and his tackling was better.
Basile Boli qualified for the born in another country one too IIRC.
Viv Anderson for less than 30 caps ?
He is making a similar point to mine in that Carragher suits a three better. de Boer-Sammer-Carragher is a solid back three to play even with insanely attacking wingbacks.
Where we seem too disagree is in that I do rate Hyypia higher as a CB/defender and, seeing as I don't rate de Boer much defensively, I would plump for him over Carra. I can absolutely see his point though, and he is right Carra is the more natural partner.
Viv Anderson is way too old for this.
