The Criteria Draft - The Drafts

That's why for clarity rules on nations shouldn't be based on geopolitics but FIFA recognised National Teams. If FIFA recognises it as a National Team it's a separate nation football-wise. Same holds for Surinam, for example.
I agree. Suriname haven't played a competitive game in ages so they're a bit of a freebie in that regards that no one is going to stick around.

What the... I had no idea Pipita was born in France!

I'll pick in a few minutes.

Seriously? It was quite a big thing a few years back because he didn't declare for Argentina straight away and France were sniffing around. There's also the opposite case of an Argie playing for France...

Maybe the reason for the confusion is in the All-time draft (one player per nation) it was FIFA NT based. It's bizarre it wasn't dealt with much earlier TBH.

Aye - then again it could've been clarified in the very first round if someone had picked the right, or the wrong, player - coincidence more than anything, that.

And, of course, what was brought up not long ago could just as easily have surfaced back when David's was declared ineligible - I never even thought of Suriname in terms of FIFA membership prior to their independence.

It's not like Surinam are an endless source of great players, Davids, Seedorf and that's really about it.

As for Baines on the Caf - it's quite simple, really. His stock is lower than ever because he was a declared target for the dreaded Moyes. Add "expert crosser" to "David Moyes" and there you are - completely unfair on Baines, obviously, but United fans are no brighter and no fairer than other sets, I guess.

Is Ian Harte rated higher than Baines on here ? :(

I doubt it. Harte probably had an even sweeter left foot than Baines, but he was a considerably worse defender, who got exposed at a lower level than Baines struggles at. I can see how Aldo could play to his strengths though given his excellent defense and wall of a defensive midfield.

Should have been nailed down there and then.

For the record, this is how you do a proper draft OP ;)

Nationality constraint: No side can field more than one player from each nation (i.e. no Xavi AND Iniesta, although one could be a sub). Before this gets us into a right mess, let's establish the following:
  • A Nation is defined as one that has or has had a national team participating in FIFA competitions (e.g. no Catalunya).
  • If a player has played for two NTs, the NT of birth applies (e.g. Di Stefano is Argentinian).
  • If a player played for a multi-nation NT (e.g. Yugoslavia), their NT is defined as that of their city of birth. This is so that there is a greater pool of nations to pick from. No debate on ethnicity or heritage will be entertained. It's a football draft, not a politics debate.
In fairness to Trippy though, that was just about the only criterion that needed a clear and all-angles-covered description.

It's a good point you make about his stock being low because of his association with Moyes, doesn't help that he played under Hodgson either.

Thing is, many United fans (on here too) wanted Baines last summer - and most would consider him an upgrade on Evra, etc. If he had been brought in along with a muppet pleaser, like Fabregas, people would've been very positive I'm sure, even though the consensus was probably that he was too expensive given his age.

But we all know how things played out.

Who actually played for 'em or who could've played for 'em?

Anyway, there is a player who...yeah, I'm considering picking him just to make a complete mockery out of the whole criterion.

I need some time guys. I should pick in about 20 minutes...

Is @Snow around?

Yeah he formed a pretty mean defensive unit in his peak at Leeds during the early 00s, the whole back 4 and the keeper including one of @antohan 's all time favourite defenders. :D

Baines' stock is down right now after his poor defending at the World Cup.

He'll be one of the better attacking left-backs in the draft and one of the worst defensively.

ok.. to keep the draft going:

Sorry @Snow as he isn't online and I haven't discussed this with him:

Thoughts?

Nationality, as in - born in another country?

Never played in Europe could potentially be easier if we're talking keepers.

I saw the pick after I came home. Can't reach NM as before.

Well, watcha wanna do? We're sorting out pace's pick now, should be ready soon. But there's no rush - if you want to wait and see if NM shows up so you can confer, I have no issue with that.
