Such an odd pick. Benatia is not even a proven CB today. He's playing in the worst Seria A in decades without any major threat to Europe. When has he ever played against top strikers? I don't think he fits this draft tbf... I hate being the cnut but it's just true.

Proven as what? He's clearly one of the better CBs around. Besides he meets the criterion Jones turned out NOT to meet.

Or did you have mercy on the poor fecker there, Trip? Was the call made?

Proven against who?
He's a top CB in the 4th(?) best league in the world. Thats hardly impressive. Whose the best striker he faced the past year? Higuain? Tevez? Come on.
When has he ever proven himself or had a chance to do that against someone like Shevchenko, Eto'o, Batistuta, Henry, Ronaldo, Messi and at their prime?? Never. We got nothing to judge him for, except coping with a bunch of strikers in Giovinco&Llorente calibre.
 
Yeah I think Jones was allowed, but he was for a born somewhere else category, whereas benatia would be from the outside top 30 one.

I like Benatia, I think he's class and has very few weaknesses in his game, if any. But Viva's point of him not being proven against tougher opponents is valid. But as a 10th round pick for a tough criterion, he's hardly the worst he could have done.

I'm not going to get into the inherent weakness of the old "proven" argument here. Why are you starting match thread type debates anyway? If you think Benatia is a poor pick, then rejoice - he's not on your team, is he? Just strikes me as a perfectly unnecessary dig at someone else - whom you may never line up against anyway.

Well I was just pointing out that he doesn't fit in this draft. I think it's exactly the place to point it out - right after he got picked. Doesn't matter if he'll face me or not, I'm not trying to talk smack on any team, just saying my opinions. Exactly like I'm pointing out great picks(like Carvalho now btw).
 
Benatia is a cracking defender. Good pick for a hard criteria IMO.

Fair enough. You're entitled to point out whatever you feel is worth pointing out, I guess - it's what we all do in one way or t' other. I disagree with your assessment, though. What a manager needs to do here, regardless of who he ends up with on the pitch, is to argue the case of Player X in a hypothetical match against a fantasy team. Whether he's proven against Y in reality isn't relevant - unless you argue that Player X must be shoddy because he plays for a certain team in a certain league and not for someone else in a presumably better league. Which is a faulty argument in my opinion - a lazy and faulty argument, in fact.
 
I love Edogens team, it's probably by favourite so far. The only slight issue I have is that Weah/Raul isn't the most complimentary up front.

Ideally in that system I would prefer Raul as a second striker behind a poacher, someone like Ruud. I don't think that's too controversial?
