Television The Boys

I enjoyed all 3 episodes but so far it is missing a little something. All the character arcs are a bit off. Aimless.
But I hope the.. 'Christ back in Christmas' single is out. That song slaps.

The actress who plays Starlight got some really jarring plastic surgery so be prepared to be a bit shocked when you see her in season 4.
In real life, or the character in the show did? EDIT: I just searched the cesspool/internet and saw the plastic surgery before-and-after photos. Hmm. I hope it's just a weight loss and makeup thing. Utterly fecking bizarre when a famous person decides to totally alter their appearance - after already becoming famous. RIP Starlight.

I thought this show definitely started going downhill last season, but Jesus Christ it’s so boring now. I guess it was inevitable given this is a world with zero stakes - treating everything with ironic disdain just means that nothing matters at all. And the plot armour surrounding the main human characters is just so unbelievable. There’s absolutely no reason why any of them are still alive. And unfortunately I don’t think any of the actors playing The Boys are compelling enough to make me care about their characters when the script is so weak.

Why even bother with season 5 if it’s going to be this lacklustre? Not sure I’m going to make it all the way through this season tbh.

yeah I think you explain how I feel. Absolutely loved this show when it was fresh but it’s boring now.

Best thing about this season is trying to guess Milks 90's hip hop tee of the week. I've got GangStarr, Dilla and Tribe pencilled in for future episodes.

Anthony Starr is carrying this show at the moment though I do like the new additions to the seven.

The Frenchie and Hewie sub plots are annoying as feck (are they paying Simon Pegg to play dead all season?) and Milk is just a bell end now.

It is ok so far, far from "miles worst" like many are saying. People were saying that for Season 3 too, then it picked up later on. Both 3 and 4 started weak compared to the first two but it is still good regardless.

That’s an expensive ass dead actor you have just laying there . The Will Ferrell cameo was decent/unexpected .

Overall, agree though. Drop in quality - I’m not sure if it’s quality or possibly just “fatigue” with the show because of the ridiculous plot armour for the main (human) characters and the seemingly uninteresting storylines/regurgitated storylines. Still one of my favorite shows though and I’m glad season 5 is the end - albeit they could have done that now with season 4 IMO.

This show had a decent start but lost its way fast. Homelander is the only interesting, not annoying character. Not surprised to hear they've started throwing random celebrity cameos in.

The sauna scene in episode 2.

Let's face it, Starr and Homelander were always the best thing about this. "the boys" are boring, and the rest of the supes just service Homelander being evil.

I honestly hope the ending is him winning. If it's not, then it's just going to be another typical shite landing.

They should’ve had Homelander lose his powers the end of the last one and had a whole season of him trying to deal with that/scheming to get them back - or at least something to shake it up a bit cos as it stands it’s now just a show about how everyone has to kill Homelander, where they absolutely cannot kill Homelander because he’s far too important to the show. But nothing else has changed in almost anyone’s outlook or circumstances that much either so it’s just kinda treading water for another season…. It’s still fun, but it’s definitely lost that ‘essential’ feeling. You could pretty much only watch the first season and have a clear idea of what’s happening at least 70% of the time.

Okay so far. Definitely feels off in some scenes, hard to describe exactly why. Frenchie and Kimiko's bits have had me checking my phone, never a good sign.

Ashley is the surprise package this season, one for the 'not classically hot' thread.

Mainly I just really want to own The Boys video game.

Ashley's always been a butterface, though she's really flaunting those legs this season.

I think she addressed this and it was all bollocks. The internet is a cesspit and we’d do well to not throw more coins in the Incel well.

Liked the first three episodes but if I hear "Mon couer" one more time...

Oh please, the woman has obviously had work done. It's fecked that a beautiful woman like her felt the need to get the "fat" sucked out of her cheeks to appease Hollywood, social media, whatever. It's her choice but lets not act she hasn't done it.

Slow start, Homelander scenes are the interesting ones so far.

Did I miss something which explained why Kimiko got drunk whilst at the nutjob convention?

I agree with everyone saying something is missing. Not keen on Firecracker, seems like a very lite version of Stormfront, but Sage has been a good addition so far.

But The Boys are the dullest part of The Boys. I get bored when it jumps to their arcs, when I just want to see more of Homelander dealing with his insecurities, and The Deep being weird as feck.

The Deep trying to rescue the dolphin who had been his girlfriend scene was awesome, season 2 I think. They really lean into how weird it would be to have Aquaman’s powers. Still can’t get over how he forced/pressured Starlight into a hummer season 1 and he didn’t get killed.

I wonder how much the writers strike and work stoppage affected this season? Probably a feckton. Same thing happened to Battlestar Galactica and ruined the series finale.

Agree with the prevailing sentiment that the boys are the worst part of this show.

Agreed about the Homelander bit.

NO. What’s bollocks is that Shane88 on a football forum thinks he has any right to chirp up about what a woman does with her body.

Like… why does it matter in any way? The girl has been hounded and targeted and I don’t think anyone here really needs to make comment on it. It’s a non issue.

‘Prepare to be shocked’ and ‘RIP Starlight’ are really weird things to be posting. Fair go that that wasn’t you.

I agree. I’m not exactly a fan of the show but this is a weird obsession some people seem to have. Gutter tabloid-level stuff.

Well said.

Can’t say I even noticed to be honest.

I found MM's weight loss and lack of beard way more noticeable than any work Starlight has had done. For the first minute he was on screen, I thought he'd been recast.

She saw some posters about children being abducted and forced into being child soldiers which triggered her PTSD.

Thanks, that makes sense, I must have glossed over that. Admittedly, I found myself zoning out a bit during certain subplots, typically ones involving Frenchy and Kimiko. I used to like their story arc, but it just feels like it hasn't really gone anywhere.

Seems a bit of a tired formula now, signs of it last season as well, was hard carried by Solider Boy and Homelander.

I think you’re missing the context. I had earlier posted about how much I like Moriarty and McElligott. Then someone said she looks way different in S4. So it was not “let’s beat up on Erin Moriarty” but more “you will be surprised“ - and to be fair it really was shocking. watch S401 again: they cut around Starlight‘s dialogue because her upper lip is stiff and doesn’t move. It was really strange. It’s not judging a random person for having work done, it’s being shocked that a gorgeous world famous person would even have work done in the first place.

I'm hoping this season is moving a bit slow and will improve. Has been mediocre and dull so far this season.
And they want another season top of this one, I dont think I have the willpower to see it through.

The things they want to show the audience has me gunshy. Like, we’ve seen a guy walk around inside another guys penis, we’ve seen Deep screwing an octopus for laughs, heads popping left and right, gore, Homelander having sex with himself, the Nazi supe jerking off Homelander while she’s a burned husk, Butcher’s arsehole, Homelander’s gray pubes, and the list goes on. It seems all shock value and no story.

I like new season. After i read comments here, i was in doubt but it turns out that quality is still there. I love good acting. Nearly every actor in this show does excellent work.

And yes, Erin can do whatever she wants with her body. It is her choice. But what is wrong to mention that her acting is messed up in this season? She can't move lower lip, ffs.

They really need an episode now and again where the boys take out some random supe and show they are actually competent and why the cia or whoever it is continue to employ them. Because they basically feck up everything they are supposed to be doing but somehow always survive because of reasons.

They made too many supes as half evil/half good. Disney effect kicked in (where nobody is a pure evil anymore). So, there is no supe to kill for "good guys".

Who is evil evil in The Boys? Homelander and...?
In previous seasons you had nazi girl, Soldier boy, invisible dude and some other side characters as evil bastards ready for killing.

They did so in the comics but the storyline has diverged so much that it's irrelevant I suppose.

And yeah you're right.

Does anybody not? I wholeheartedly disagree, I think the acting and writing is extremely average (and at various points just plain bad and not at all compelling).
