Is gen v worth watching by the way? I tried half an episode a while back, but it just lacked the vibe. Wondering if it picks up

Definitely. It’s its own thing, but it’s every bit as good and has plenty of touch points with The Boys.
If it wasn’t blindingly obvious, the ‘Gen V’ is a direct reference to Compound V from The Boys. Only difference being that the whole lot of them know that they have powers derived from the substance. (Obviously also a play on Gen X/Z or whatever).
It plays with current social issues more than The Boys that’s looking at facism and global power structures. Some of it is super dark and every bit as disgusting and gory as The Boys.
I don’t see that much difference between them. It’s great.
Time was limited and I had some other shows that pulled me in first. Also didn't develop a care for the characters right away, but maybe that gets better as it goes on (?)
I didn't think GenV was quite a good for me as The Boys, but still absolutely fine if you enjoy that kind of show. There are also some interesting connections to the other show including crossovers from certain characters.
Same for me. The Boys was a level above Gen V. Gen V while much the same isn't as strong both in characters and story, though still enjoyable to watch.
I don't like Superhero stuff but I got through S1 well enough. Not got to S2 yet but will eventually.
Yeah it does! I was mainly asking in case it was the tone you didn't like, because that remains the same. I feel your attachment/hate for the characters is developped quite well as the show goes on, so I'd definitely recommend you to give it another shot!

I'm rewatching the boys and I think it's down to the strength of the main characters. From episode 1 I was invested in Hughie, Butcher, homelander, Starlight.
The main characters from Gen V just aren't very interesting

I wouldn’t have thought so, seeing as the ‘plot’ of The Boys has been in a holding pattern since season 1 ie evil corporation is evil, overpowered superhero is also evil, plucky human underdogs are somehow still alive. This show is mostly about shock value and it started hitting diminishing returns on that some time ago, imo

Butcher’s journey from ‘All dupes are cnuts’ through to ‘The woman I love gave birth to one, killed her, but I love him because he was hers’ at the same time he’s actively becoming a supe to beat them, and enjoying it.
The balance between being an all powerful entity and yet Politics still wielding the greatest power.
Starlight has dramatically changed.
A-Trains journey from empty vessel to feeling a pull towards a community he’s never felt a part of, as he’s ran off towards fame/wealth, believing that to be empowering. Them being rejected by both communities.
Hughie struggling with power structures, with his super power manifesting as him being able to run away in the blink of an eye, and still showing up.
The naivety of children, viewed through Ryan. The importance of role models.
Frenchie’s battle with the bottom, and drugs, finding love in amongst it all. Is he out, is he in.
There’s loads more than that too. The show is working with some big fun societal/political concepts… and also still finding room for sex parties, exploding cocks, betrayal, redemptive arcs.
It’s really not just Superhero goes full Nazi and we’re waiting out the final solution.
Some of the characters are showing up in it. So almost certainly yes.
It’s every bit as good as The Boys. Perhaps with more average single episodes though.

It's nice to have the show back but so far it does not reach the heights of the previous seasons.
The Homelander stuff is good as always but the side plots with Frenchie and Kimicho are needless and boring as feck.
The new members of the seven are quite good especially Sister Sage, interested to see what her motives are.

Gen V is a good show. If you like The Boys I can't see why you wouldn't watch Gen V.
The only reason I'd say watch it first is that the new season of The Boys might spoil the plot of Gen V.
First episode was standard The Boys but it felt a bit.. flat? I dunno, not sure if it’s because it’s been so long since season 3 or that the format is just wearing a bit thin. Hopefully it picks up.
This is show dials up the violence for comedic effect in ways that I find to be way too much. Instance: when the Antman type character goes into his boyfriend's urethra and then goes regular size, exploding the bottom half of him into a pile of intestines. Season 3 I think. I like a lot of the characters. Jack Quaid does well, especially since he's a nepo-baby, and I love Erin Moriarty. Karl Urban's Cockney Wanker shtick grew thin in Season 1. Antony Starr, though, is truly the real "starr" of this show. He whipsaws through anger to pain to happiness to egotism and you can see him shifting like a chameleon. He's brilliant. I do agree with whoever said here there's not much plot about the whole thing. It's a loud, violent, fun show, but I don't know if I'm ready for Season 4 if they have determined to ramp up the violence once again. Also, Maeve is stunning! I confess to caring more about the eye candy characters because I am shallow.

Flat is a good description and it kind of carries into episodes 2 and 3 also, unfortunately.
