More obvious now.
Was obvious quite a while ago if you watch Nadal often, it was very clear in his body language and facial expression from the first set. Nadal is just trying to battle against it, but should really quit the match for his career sake.

Possible issue with the abs he's had tape on them all tournament and serve speed way down.

This is really dumb. You know stuff can happen during a match?

Obviously I do. I just don't trust Nadal. Zverev got injured during the match against Nadal. Nadal looked dead at Rome and recovered miraculously for RG. He just might recover miraculously here as well. It's not as if he didn't rise from the dead before. Nadal is excellent at playing opossum when things don't go according to the plan.

We shall see how this match goes, but for someone who is "injured" Nadal is still playing very high level.

He's 4-3 up in the 2nd set, it's clearly not that serious. He might not have many chances left to get to the latter stages at Wimbledon so unless it's a serious injury, which it certainly doesn't seem to be, he would be mad to quit the match.

Fritz came back from 2 sets down against Djokovic when he had an abdominal tear but lost in the 5th set. He'll surely not let Nadal get away with it this time.

Everything you've described sounds like Novak, tbh. He'll look dead, injured, exhausted before miraculously coming back. Maybe top players are just really good sometimes.

He looked injured before things "didnt go to plan". You are making yourself look very silly. There is nothing to suggest that he's faking anything. Fritz isn't even playing that great, Nadal has been quite horrible.

I was switching between this and the other match a bit so wasn't watching that intently. Both him and Djokovic do sometimes have weird lapses in body language when they're playing poorly though. Clearly not the case here mind you.

Serve speed has been down and he's had tape on his abs all tournament. Possible that whatever issue he came into the tournament with has just got worse.

He's had tape on his abdomen throughout the tournament so I would imagine there is some discomfort but he's 4-3 up in the 2nd set so he clearly he can still compete with it. We know how he got right for Roland Garros, they had to numb his bad foot and then he had a procedure on it afterwards. You have something of a point that he's obviously aware of his own mystique of winning despite the injuries but the fact he's had tape on it throughout does suggest there is some problem there that he's managing.

He'd be mad not to quite actually. It was at Indian Wells when he got injured vs Alcaraz and then he made the injury worse vs Fritz (again) in the final and then proceeded to miss the next 2 months of tennis. The smart play would be to quit here and not tear something. With Novak banned from entry in the US, Nadal will be a big favorite for the USO and he needs to focus on that.

I think it is quite serious, all credit to Fritz but he hasn't been anything great. An off Nadal can compete with him. If it's abdominal, Nadal could continue. If it was his foot (what I thought), he should probably retire and save himself for the rest of the year.

Novak is very similar to Nadal in that regard as well. That injury at AO 2020 or whatever it was, in my humble opinion was total BS. It was way more minor than Novak described it. I am a fan of Novak but by no mean I think the guy is a saint. I hate the aura of Nadal being "perfect" guy. He isn't.

It is this. ESPN said that he barely practiced his serve yesterday and he's had bandage through the tournament. Even that's an injury that isn't worth risking because if he tears a muscle, that badly impacts his USO preparation. He needs to avoid the mistake he made the previous time vs Fritz.

Fair point I think, what a shame. But it's part of the game.

Come on mate, he's obviously not well. Either that or he's tanking and I doubt he'd do that.

Nadal's not perfect, but he's definitely not a twat on the level of Novak Djokovic. That's pretty obvious to everyone.

He had a stress fracture of his rib, I would count that as serious (as I would if the doctors thought there was a high risk of tearing a muscle) and said if it was that then fair enough but clearly the people around him know more about what it is (if it is a problem he had coming in to today) and they thought he was capable of playing this match. My only issue was the post saying he should quit based on his body language and him being in some discomfort.

There was no such post, it was obvious from his body language and discomfort that he isn't well.

I thought it was his foot/leg, but playing through injury is generally not advisable. Though Rafa has done well to make it this far, he is by no means the favourite here and will be at the US with NoVaxx,

Fritz's serve has been nowhere near as good as it should have been. Think this is his worst match probably so far.

Well what was it based on if you didn't even know where the injury was? Unless he's doing serious damage (in which case I said he should obviously quit) then why wouldn't he keep playing? He's 36, he doesn't know how many chances he's got left. He had a different injury at the French a month ago so what guarantee is there he won't have something else in a month at the US Open?

That's probably why. This is it. His last chance to win Wimbledon.

The treatment for the foot isn't long term. It's probably a solution till the end of the season, but after that is up in the air.

Based on Nadal and his best chances for winning more Grand Slams. Sure he is a competitor and a fighter so it is understandable why he'd continue, but just as he has been very focused on managing his body and his career the past few years, I thought it would be wise to quit. Had no idea that he had been playing with an abdominal issue the entire tournament though.

Ofcourse, anything could happen in the future but here, he definitely does have an injury and he's risking aggravating it. He doesn't like to retire from matches but he's got to sensible here and even his dad was shouting out to him to retire. He's also got a USO coming up ina year that he's been brilliant on the hard courts and Novak most likely will still be banned. Got to be smarter with your choices.

Even if the painkillers kick in and somehow get him through this match, he's got two incredibly difficult matches coming up.

Injured Nadal takes a set. Imagine how amazing healthy Nadal would play?
I don't know why you're going with these microagressions.

Your favourite beat Fritz with a muscle tear last year. It happens. These guys push themselves through it.

Your constant saltiness reeks of Twitter garbage.

Really don't know why this is so difficult to understand, but Nadal is taking a risk, and it might go his way. Speaks of the type of person he is.

Isn't toxic injury conspiracies the reason a young Nadal was booed off the court a couple of times when he had very real injuries? Seriously the obsession with this topic is crazy.

That's fair enough and I apologise for being a bit snippy. If he was 28 and with plenty of more opportunities ahead I would be more on board with what you're saying but I don't think at 36 and with a chance to maybe win Wimbledon (which is the slam after Australia that would mean the most I would imagine given how bad his record was there from 2012 until he made some sort of return in 2018) that's as easy a decision to make.

 at "injury"

As if we haven't seen this story in the past, Fritz is done. Momentum halted and in his head that he is up against an "injured" Nadal

Nadal is fine, this isn't the first time we've all thought he was injured and watched him go on to win (and be fine for the next match). He'll take this in 4, along with the semi, as has been obvious for a while.

It's called sarcasm man, why upgrade sarcasm to "microagression". Wtf is microagression anyway? Sounds like a made up word.
