Still think Medvedev has this in the bag. Like at the US Open everyone will talk about 21 and then Medvedev crashes the party rather comfortable in 3 or 4 sets.

He is the only one from the new lads who is stable and clutch enough to beat Rafa and Nole at a slam, Zverev and Tsitsipas are talented but you always expect them to throw it out of the window when they are in Bo3 against them.

But would actually prefer if Rafa wins, would make this even worse to Nole. At this point he can only blame himself, threw 2 potential slam titles away (USO 2020, AO 2022) just because he is a dick.
Instead of beeing at 22 titles he can now potentially watch Rafa winning 21 and going to RG as favorite.

I think he's the favourite but this time Medvedev goes in with the pressure of being the favourite. I don't think that will phase him, but he's not been in that situation before so it will be interesting to see how he handles it.

Very excited for this final. Clash of style on all levels. Hoping for a Medvedev win as the big 3 all retiring on 20 slams would be the best end of that era. Not in the least because it will keep the debate about who's greatest alive for all eternity.

Would be beautiful if Nadal got to 21 and ended up the all-time winner or even par with Djoko when all is written. Hell, it would be best if all three ended with 20 and made history - but Nadal is a gentleman and deserves it the most. Without injuries he would have them already, but saying that, his aggressive style leading to injuries is the reason he is at 20 so to speak. His competitive advantage was always his weakness too, just look at the strain his knees take when sliding 15 seasons in a row.

Federer has been beaten many times at his best, Djokovic has been beaten at his best on his favorite court, Nadal has never been beaten on clay when at his best. Not even close. He lost to Djoko when struggling with injury, he lost to Söderling when he should have withdrawn before the tournament. Longevity is important for the amount of slams, but prime Nadal on clay could play 100 finals and never lose so to speak.

I don’t particularly dislike Djokovic (except for his covid mental breakdown, but a player’s lack of intelligence is not so interesting compared to his playing ability) - but he just isn’t the same calibre as Nadal and Federer. Just not the same charisma or starpower. And he never played that Wimbledon final which will be remembered forever. My money is on Djokovic getting to 21-22 unfortunately, Federer is done and Nadal too I fear.

While I agree Djokovic lacks star power compared tot he other two (hairgel would solve 80% of that) I disagree that he's not at their level. Djokovic, unlike Federer and Nadal doesn't have a slam where he is decidedly less competitive. He is also by far the toughest mental and most stable when he doesn't play well. I like him least of the big 3, but down the line I think he's allround better than the other 2. Not as good as Rafa on clay or prime Fed on grass, but a high sum of all parts.

Seriously though, buy some fecking hairgel.

Nadal vs Medvedev is as good a final as we can get, after Djoko’s default. There is a clear gulf between the top 5 and the 6-10-15 tier, which is ridicuolous to write because there is another big gulf between that tier and all the rest of the field.

Final played with roof closed, the heavier condition should favor Nadal. I think this is dead even honestly.

Not sure I agree with this? Harder to hit through the court and shorten points makes me think it helps Med more. I don't think Rafa has the energy and physical ability to match Medvedev in long rallies.

Do we actually know they're playing with the roof on then? Is it the same for the women's final?

Cannot wait for Medvedev to destroy Nadal. Hope he puts on and celebrates in an ‘Idemo’ t-shirt.

It will be a record breaking final either way.

Medvedev wins and he becomes the first player to win back-to-back for their first 2 GS in the open era. It would also make Nadal the first player to lose to 4 different players in one Slam’s final.

Obviously if Rafa wins, #21 and one HC major less than Sampras.

Admittedly I haven’t watched all of Nadal’s matches this year, but from what I’ve seen, his flagging performance during 3rd sets seem to be more of a concentration issue rather than physical (save for the one where he got actual heat stroke). Faster outdoor conditions will work both ways, Medvedev got a proper cnuting of a serve as well so less opportunities for Nadal to attack it.

We just got a big storm and there is more rain forecasted on Sunday. They mentioned it during the match yesterday and as much as they’d like to keep it outdoor, I think a big delay with all the cleaning up would be a bad look. As for the women’s, today is expected to be clear so most likely outdoor.

BBC are biased and anti-Serb. Always been and always will be.

How is that report in any way biased?

If there is an explanation then let's hear it. Although, I'd guess if there was one it would have been provided by now since the BBC offered the opportunity for comment before publication.

Djokovic's COVID life has sucked. This Australian fiasco might leave long lasting legacy effects. There was a lot of wrong done by Djokovic in December and January, a lot. Some idiotic decisions have been made due to extreme arrogance. Djokovic has done a lot of harm here to tennis and his fans. I can't go anywhere tennis related without reading 1000s of hate comments. fecking hurts.

Calling this anti-Serb is also stupid. I got upset here when people were attacking Serbia and Serbs for Djokovic's decision and started generalizing entire nation because of Djokovic. It's also upsetting that some Serbs think this is "anti-Serb" thing. It isn't. An all time great athlete decided to pull shenanigans to get into Australia through both bending and breaking the rules. He got help from Serbian health organization and from someone in Australia, but buck stops with him. He had a choice not to participate in the BS, but he either led it or decided to play along. It is totally idiotic stunt because of which his fans have to watch Nadal winning 21st slam and having at least 2 on each surface, or Medvedev taking first place on ATP. All because of a vaccine shot. fecking disgrace.

Djoko is a great player and an asshole. Anyone defending him in this case is an idiot too.

I don't think it'll hurt his legacy as the GOAT though.. Unless he continues with his nonsense.

Exactly that.

That's actually quite impressive. Hope with him there is finally at least sort of a success or to the big 3. Now it would be nice if at least one more his age steps up before Novak and Rafa retire.
