Looks very, very difficult for Nadal. Under pressure in every service game while not threatening Medvedev's serve once. Needs to change the tendancy fast, he can't afford to lose more than one set here.

55% first serve in for Nadal compared to 82% for Medvedev. That's the only thing that could change to bring it back in Nadal's favour. In the ralleys all Medvedev though.

Let's hope Rafa can reset mentally in set 2 and get back in this. He should stop trying to out hit Medvedev and keep him of balance instead. He. Can't win a battle of atrittion.

He is not even getting his serves in right now. They are probably below 50% atm.

No chance of winning without fixing that.

I predicted Medv to win a match but not with ease. I was expecting Rafa to win one set but he's already gassed in first set. 3-0 Loading.

Medvedev's defense is so good. The ball seems to come back faster the harder you hit it

Hard to say for me. Murray had to compete with prime Nadal and Djokovic. This is old man Nadal.

I think in terms of skillset he's better. He's got a better serve, his defense is just as good but he's got more weapons to attack with. Murray was much better at the net though

He's like a better version of Murray
Yeah peak Murray was better but that’s another discussion.

Tennis needs someone new like Medvedev, don’t like the guy but it’s probably good that someone’s finally beating the like of Djokovic etc.

I swear Nadal has won the first point of Medvedev’s serve every time so far.

This is like a training rally  Medvedev knows exactly what he’s doing here.

Great stuff, Rafa. Nice to see him putting up a fight, didn't expect this after the first set.

Yes, I also thought Medveded was looking extremely solid in the first set and that it would very hard for Rafa to overcome the dynamics.

Normal service resumed. Nadal still not getting anywhere near enough first serves in. 49% for the match, against someone that returns like Medvedev, you can't afford to miss that many first serves.

Ultimately I’ve got zero doubt Medvedev will win this fairly comfortably but I’m so glad Nadal is putting up a fight.
