I started watching with them at 2-2 but the rest of that set was one way traffic. Better start from Collins this set though.

Barty decided to give the crowd’s their money’s worth here it seems like, would be a shame to go home at 9 on a Saturday.

Break for Collins.

Admittedly I haven’t watched all of Nadal’s matches this year, but from what I’ve seen, his flagging performance during 3rd sets seem to be more of a concentration issue rather than physical (save for the one where he got actual heat stroke). Faster outdoor conditions will work both ways, Medvedev got a proper cnuting of a serve
During his press conf. after Berrettini, he said he got tired during the third, so his fitness definitely seems up for debate.
It's noticeable that he loses depth on his shots and his first serve disappears as well.

Crazy to think that, if the foot continued to bother him in Australia, he was gonna use it as a chance to say goodbye.

Pretty weird match. Don't think Collins played all that well this set but Barty's level has dropped off a cliff.

Pressure got to Barty big time here, Collins has no back hand to speak of but she stopped attacking it for some reason.

The latter is serving well tbf.

It will be a record breaking final either way.

Medvedev wins and he becomes the first player to win back-to-back for their first 2 GS in the open era. It would also make Nadal the first player to lose to 4 different players in one Slam’s final.

Obviously if Rafa wins, #21 and one HC major less than Sampras.
Pretty sure this is not true? Novak, if I'm not wrong, has lost to Federer, Murray, Stan, Nadal and Medvedev in USO finals?

BARTY PARTY

First set: Barty break, Collins silence
Second Set: Collins break, huge and boasting emotion. Getting into it with the crowd. Barty breaks back, Collins goes instantly silent.
Ash just cool as ice for the entire match. Like a poker player.

Even the first bit isn't true, if I'm not mistaken. I'm pretty sure Conors won his first 3 slams back to back to back.

The first part is technically true because I think Connors didn't compete in the French (he won 3 back to back that he played). Murray was the first male player of the Open era to even reach the next final after winning his first slam.

Well done Barty, such a good player and class act. Even at 5-1 down it felt like she just had to get it together!

Now hoping Ebden and Purcell can beat Kyrgios and Kokk in the doubles.

I just sped through the game on the DVR. How Collins left that 2nd set slip I’ve no idea. She had Barty on the ropes and let her back into it.
Fair play to Barty though. That’s quite the achievement for her.

Hope I'm wrong and Nadal can get the win but I think Medvedev in 4.

First set is crucial for Rafa

Predictions?
I don't think Nadal will be able physically to match Medvedev if it goes to 4 or 5 sets and I'm not sure he's going to be capable of beating Medvedev in straight sets so I would expect Medvedev in maybe 4 sets.

Big couple of holds for Rafa but he has to be winning them more comfortably, otherwise it's a matter of when Medvedev breaks

Going to be a hard match for Rafa this. Some real quality on show already from both men though.

If Nadal can keep Medvedev running and off balance with the odd slice or huge spin ball this could be a very interesting match. Just hope he has the legs to keep up.
