Given Nadal's bad draw, wish they just redo the whole thing!
It's not a great draw but with Djokovic out, it's not terrible. We've seen draws fall apart in any case so you never know. I'd be happy for him to make the QFs and come out unscathed from a health perspective.

You know, I didn't even realise until recently that Federer was missing this. I guess I'll be rooting for Nadal then. Though I'd like to see Monfils win a major once...

Just realised Thiem and Nishikori are missing it, too! I'm still excited, but it's a bit disappointing that Federer, Djokovic, Nishikori and Thiem will all be missing.

Is it in the public interest to host a major tennis even with thousands of people attending in the midst of a surge in cases ?

The sponsors and broadcasters share your pain. If Nadal exits early, won't be alot of casual fans watching the men's draw.

Hopefully that will mean more visibility and perhaps better results for the Canadian boys - Félix Auger-Aliassime and Denis Shapovalov. They are still on the high of winning the ATP Cup.

I think the three ban, even if automatically implemented,
It says in the statement, that the 3 year ban can have exceptions for "compelling circumstances".
If he ends up vaccinated(which he won't, but in theory let's say he does), then a major Slam winner and all time great at your tournament would create greater tourism and popularity around the event, which I imagine they'll class as a compelling circumstance.

I am with Tsitsipas!

“One side of it is, yeah we’ve all followed the protocols in order to compete in Australia, we’ve been very disciplined in that part.

“The other side, I’d say that it kind of seems like not everyone is playing by the rules of how Tennis Australia and the government have been putting things.

“A very small group chose to follow their own way and it kind of makes the majority look like they’re all fools or something.”

Same Tsitsipas who had come out publicly against vaccinations? Seems like sour grapes because he feels he was forced.

Sounds like sour grapes? He’s literally explaining that is exactly what it is. Did you read the article?

He was vaccine hesitant but sucked it up and made the sacrifice because that’s what the rules dictated if he wanted to compete. He’s pissed off that Djokovic thought those same rules didn’t apply to him and felt that attitude made a mockery of the sacrifice people like him had made.

I thought as time went on the chances of this happening were declining, so surprised by this. But I think it is right!

Novaxx Djokcovid = Novisak Djokovic

I think it was heading that way, but the tide of public sentiment (which was already pretty skeptical regarding Djokovic) seemed to turn decisively against him in the wake of his confession that he provided false statements to authorities about his travel prior to entry and that he refused to isolate (as required by Serbian law) upon testing positive for Covid in December.

He's now on the record as a liar and someone who is willing to recklessly endanger public health. Obviously, he also never had a valid medical exemption to be allowed entry into the country in the first place.

Seems like an easy one to me. They should make an example of him and allow the automatic three year ban to stand, too.

Isn’t that the whole point?

You can be an anti vaxxer, that’s your prerogative, but when attending the event requires vaccination, you can either a) be a Sandgren and stay away or b) be a Tsitsipas, suck it up and get vaxxed in order to compete. Both are completely fine from a personal moral and legal POV.

Novaxx chose option C aka using his status and concoct some bs excuses in order to circumvent the rules that everyone else must abide by. That shit may fly in Serbia but fortunately Aussie people care enough to raise a stink about it and now he has to face the consequences of his choice, just like us peasants.

At least Murray's back! I'm looking forward to seeing how he does. He's in the final of the Sydney Classic tonight, too, I believe?

Whats the likelihood of court/judge just overturning this re-revoking decision again?

Oh is he? That’s great! I’d love Murray to have a good run in this tournament.

Potentially an all British final if Dan Evans beats Karatsev

Some ridiculous bitternol from you in this matter. Your entire argument seems to be 'Djokovic is a great player, why burden him with the rules that applies to all'

I’m wondering why the ATP hasn’t gotten involved yet. One of their players has clearly brought their tour into disrepute, the mixing after testing positive alone should be worth a reprimand.

I never said he was forced, but I bet he feels this way, hence his comments. Anyway, he’s getting deported so let’s get back to tennis.
Why would he feel that way? He understands the rules. He chose to break the rules, and hes (rightfully) getting deported.

If someone knows the answer to this, it would be helpful, as I was curious about the same thing. As far as I knew, it was up to the immigration minister's discretion, but now I'm reading that there could be an appeal.

They’re sort of on the wrong side of it themselves aren’t they? They tried their best to accommodate him and gave guidance which was contrary to the federal rules.

I agree. Just bitterly disappointed he won’t be able to participate, and not to say that the existing rules are a sham imo.

Much lower than the original cancellation. Ministerial cancellation is much harder to appeal.

Not even worth trying. It's a discretional power. Total circus but he deserves it after lying on the forms.

Soctty is still a clown.
