So I was excited to move on with my life but it looks like I have to wait a bit longer. It's time for Novak to leave Australia, probably for good. It was good while it lasted. Great memories of 2008 will remain forever in my mind and I will try to forget this.

Even if he does get deported tomorrow, I highly doubt they'll retain the option to ban him for 3 years. It's bad for Australia, bad for the Australia Open and bad for sponsorship money. He'll be back next year imo.

I think he should never be back. He has made some serious mistakes, but he is slowly being made into almost a terrorist status. Threat to the public health through spreading anti-vaccination ideology? Truly remarkable. I am listening to Australian news and they are saying how everyone else complied with the rules to be there except him, but few other players got deported retroactively. After making it further than Djokovic, after being in Australia for over a week.

It's time for my hero to do some self assessment and then assessment of the World he lives in. Those 20 slams and 300+ weeks at number one did not come as a gift. He is allowing the public to undermine his hard earned achievements because of his terrible COVID choices.

Maybe but it sounds like the 3 things go together and then he would need special permission to.get a visa in that 3 year period. Which he may well get if he is vaccinated.

It is very ironic that the Australian government could push for this, when they are courting the anti vaxx nutters in the nation.

Numerous MP's have come out against the vaccines and Scottys captains prick Craig "Failed Furniture sales man and fat cnut" Kelly is leading the anti vaxx charge.

"Jeopardise the viability of Australia continuing to host the Australian Open"

And live from Tokyo the Australian Open

Our economy being hammered because workers are sick in key supply lines, and nobody is going out and spending money.

And our government saying that people are not getting boosters because of Novak is stupid, people here are not getting boosters because they did not order them, cant do basic logistics, and they have ignored all healthcare and workers warmings since september.

My goverment is trying to blame their long term mistakes on Novak, A piss poor attempt for PR.

With this "feeling" based grounds for deportation it almost feels as Hawke threw Djokovic a softball. Threat to health for spreading antivax ideology? I mean, I don't know the law and if they have to prove that or not, but if they have to prove how do you do it? There is one statement from Djokovic from 2020 where he said the following: “Personally, I am opposed to vaccination, and I wouldn’t want to be forced by someone to take a vaccine in order to be able to travel,” he said. “But if it becomes compulsory, what will happen? I will have to make a decision. I have my own thoughts about the matter, and whether those thoughts will change at some point, I don’t know.”

Certainly time for those thoughts to change (a bit late actually for this AO) , but extrapolating from that that he is spreading antivax ideology is, hmmm, a reach.

Maybe it's just poor wording, but you say that as if the public has been itching for the chance. You saw the outpouring of love and respect he got in New York, people were embracing him. You're right it's his own fault though.

Its the Aussie government using Novak as a distraction/scapegoat from their MP's being anti vaxx and their general incompetence.

What do you mean "incompetence"? Australia did extremely well in the pandemic, compared to other western countries. It has one of the lowest ratios of deaths per million of population.

USA 2,611 deaths per 1M
UK 2,215 deaths per 1M
Serbia 1,500 deaths per 1M
Australia 101 deaths per 1M

In USA, we have a total of 872,000 deaths from covid. If we had Australia's rate we'd have a total of only 33,000 deaths!!! The difference is enormous!

It’s the federal government he was talking about, the state governments were the ones doing the heavy lifting during the pandemic, and now once the ‘let it rip’ strategy that the Morrison government was advocating the whole time is being carried out, we are experiencing our worst wave yet with the healthcare system under heavy strain, despite plenty of warnings months ago.

Its vaccine procurement was utterly shambolic, turning down an early chance to get Pfizer etc.

The State governments coverned this nations arse, the federal government ran away from their constitutional duties, failed to buy vaccines, failed to build dedicated quarantine facilities, gave billions to their mates, abandoned my state of Victoria, stole vaccines from Labor run states to give to lib areas, the vaccine rollout was the worst in the developed world, we do not nave any RA tests (even though some of the tech is Aussie they went to the US after our federal government rejected it).

Australia did well because we have state governments and are a spread population. Not due to Federal government work.

The Federal government have been useless from day 1. The State governments have been the adults in the room at least until Gladys' corruption caught up with her and we got Domicron.

Don't forget the shambles of ignoring the need for rapid antigen tests despite repeated warnings. Amazingly we have a major domestic producer who after being repeatedly snubbed by the Feds had to export almost their entire production to survive. Now we have to import RAT tests. FFS

I don't get why that was the reason stated for canceling his visa.

Surely, it's simple enough to say, "we canceled his visa because he is anti-vax, and our laws dictate those who refuse to receive a vaccination are denied entry to Australia".

Why are they darting around that?

This is like a soap opera ffs.

World number 15 and number 1 seed for this tournament Murray faces, great challenge this. Hell of a confidence booster could be on the cards.

feck me  he thinks he is bigger than one of the grand slams. Someone should break the news to him that the Australian Open existed before him and will exist long after he retires.

Quite a few statements out of Novak's team recently that reek of arrogance, and what's worse is that they seem oblivious to how badly they're coming across.

It's not working for me. When I press the red button on bbc1 and choose the game, it gives me an error message and takes me to iPlayer.
I’m not convinced my channel is working, I thought broadcast might start at 830 but nope.

Edit: actually I think the ladies final is on going so maybe thats why.

It appears so, mate! It's also on Freesports I've found.

Kelly's posters keep getting vandalised around here.
