Murray looked like he tanked that. Put in zero effort all match. Saving himself for Wimbledon I hope as that was abysmal.

He needed to get further in this tournament to gain any sort of momentum. He wasn't saving himself and has been woeful all year long.

Federer looked like a different player compared to last week, although Sugita would've lost to Haas in the sort of form he was as well. Things are looking up.

Couldn't watch Murray, but did he always get this bumboozled by Serve & Volleyers?

Edit: Seems I was misinformed about Thompson's playing style.

Nah man.

He was abysmal. He needed to win this tournament to get some momentum. Going out to a lucky loser is embarassing.

If Federer can win Halle then he has got the momentum.

Then there is someone like Cillic who has to be one of the favourite for Queens now with Wawrinka and Raonic also out.

Wouldn't surprise me if Nadal gets further than recent years.

That second set from Murray was shockingly poor. If Rafa does show up then there's a very good chance he's number one after Wimbledon, will be interesting to see how Murray plays once he's down to number two or three - my feeling is he's just completely burned out but the pressure of being number one might be playing a part.

Speaking of tanking, hope the matchfixing department weren't watching Roger when he blew that bagel.

You're probably right but something isn't right with him in terms of effort levels. Looks very lethargic and devoid of motivation.

Murray at his best is awesome v serve and volley. He just wasn't at the races and didn't look like he wanted to be out there.

Do you think Murray is suffering with motivation problems since becoming number one? He isn't going to be number one very long surely, he has been dreadful! Mental as he is absolutely phenomenal, been lucky enough to see him live a few times and he is genuinely amazing to watch.

Everything Djokovic touched really has turned to shit recently.:)

I'm considering to officially jump on (or create) the Shapovalov bandwaggon. Could turn into a great player.

Don't know a great deal about him but he was the lad who blasted the ball into the umpire's eye in the Davis Cup, seems as though that experience has done him the world of good.

In other breaking news: Nishikori shockingly has to retire from his match due to an injury. That's how many times now this year?

He clearly didn't mean it and his reaction afterwards was exemplary.
There's some really promising young canadians around.

Dan Evans has just announced that he's tested positive for cocaine.

Evans started to make a name for himself with his success in the Australia open with wins over Tomic and Cilic.

He then goes and does something so stupid.

Yeah he's turned into a decent player but this could be his career over now.

What he did was stupid but it always left a sour taste in my mouth that athletes get severely punished for recreation drugs and not alcohol.

Has there been any concrete study on the performance effect of cocaine or other recreational drugs like marijuana or meths?

Something to do with bringing the sport into disrepute? Allowing athletes to be able to take illegal drugs doesn't send out a good message.

You and I and everyone else know that to be bs. I wouldnt say no one but most dont give a feck if their sporting hero enjoy the occasional bomb. The only thing that affects is sponsor's money.

I think many would actually, no one wants to see a sport where a lack of proffesionalism is so evident. Maybe they'd take it anyway, but say these drugs are not banned, could have cases where a lot more drug abuse happens, all of which is good for no one.

It doesn't bother me too much, I think banninh illegal recreational drugs is fine.

I'm not advocating the use of these drugs or arguing against banning them. What I have issue with is the clear double standard we have for their consumption and that of alcohol. I'm well aware that is more a societal issue at large rather than just confined to tennis (or sports for that matter) but it's still galling to see careers cut short when their peers can drink to their heart's content and act like cocks without much of a consequence (Smalling being pissed and wandered off singing at 2 am a few years back come to mind).

It is such a joy to watch Sascha play. Great match today vs Bautista Agut.

I know what you mean, but I'd say it's as simple as it being legal rather than societal. Athlete's aren't banned from smoking cigarettes or shisha.

Yeah. Sascha will play Gasquet in semis, Fed will play Khachanov. Zverev had beaten Federer in Halle last year.
Ah right I missed that one last year. If it's the final I'll watch it.

Murray beat him comfortably at RG, but remember them saying Khachanov is a decent talent.

Pretty woeful men's tournament at Queen's. Quarter finalists had trundlers like Querrey, Muller and Donald Young and the semi finals don't look great either. I know someone who paid £300 for final tickets back in Jan

Draw fell apart. Looked like a pretty good line up initially, as well. On our works online notice board, someone trying to sell their pair of SF tickets. Bloody £260 face value for a pair. Good luck getting rid of those!!

Muller is pretty hot though, won last week, and my favourite to repeat this weekend.

Federerer in Halle pretty effortlessly going on. Think it'll be the same today, but not tomorrow, whoever meets him in final.

Federer wins the first 6-4 against Khachanov, but the latter has played some good tennis. The lad has quality and IMO if he has his head straight will have some success in the future.

Did you see that forehand winner from the middle of the court.. one of the hardest shots to pull off their as a straight winner. Impressed with this lad too.. seems to have a bit of tennis IQ and not just power.

Aye, he began to grow into the match after somewhat shaky start. The lad has a big game but also good movement and feel for a 6ft 6. Impressed me at the French he's a bit of an all rounder.

Did Federer just mutter something about "fecking shit"? :nervous:

He looks really unsatisfied with his tennis.

Ominous signs tbh. Haven't seen him this impatient on court this year.

Worst case scenario is he puts too much pressure on himself to perform and let that disrupt building his rhythm.

He's been looking sharper (yet still unhappy) in the last few games.

Jesus, I've never heard him curse this much

Edit: Gets broken while serving for the match, of course.

Roger made bloody hard work of that!:D
