Gonna be hard for him in the final I think. Anyway, the important thing is to use this tournament to find out what he needs to work on ahead of Wimbledon and also to get more matches under his belt.

Still maintain that it was a bad decision to skip the entire clay season. One tourney or two during that long slog would keep him sharp while not wearing his knee out on the surface.

Harder than it needed to be but done and dusted.

I think Zverev will give him a tough go if he gets there.

On the contrary think Khachanov game tougher for him than Zverev's. Wouldn't put too much emphasize on his loss last year as he is clearly a different player this one.

Yeah he does look a bit 'undercooked' and maybe should have played one clay tournament just to keep that competitive edge. Still, he made the decision not to, and I expect he'll find a way to improve come Wimbledon.

Also forgot to say, it's good he had a proper test today and will have another tomorrow as that will help to sharpen him up, win or lose.

It backfired a bit as he wanted to sweep the grass season, but so far he looked a bit off. Still good preparation for Wimbey, however a good draw up until the 4th at least would do him favor as he doesn't seem to be in optimal form now, considering his level at the start of the season.

I genuinely think he had little choice. He said the transition to clay last year raelly aggravated his knee because of the surface demands. Better to be a little rusty than to risk serious re-injury.

Think it's more of the length of the rallies, rather than the surface itself. Clay is best for the knees but back to back tournaments with long rallies would be taxing. Still that was a long break with a short grass season.

Looks better with every match tho, so he has to be on optimal level come Wimbey. And with Federer ranked top 4 for the draw he would have time to pick it up.

He said his knee felt funny during the clay season last year. Impossible to know whether its just the knee not strengthened enough after surgery or the type of movements and length of rallies on the surface impacting him negatively. My opinion is more the former since hard court is well known to be the most demanding surface and he fared fine but still its up to him to do what he thinks best for his body.

Yeah I agree. You have 39 years old Tommy Haas playing at pretty good level, so with proper preservation we could well see couple of more years of Federer at the top :)

Zverev has a weakness atm of not starting as strongly as he should but as the match progresses he more often than not grow into the game and turned out pretty damn good.

Going to be interesting tmr. Fed will want his revenge, same as against Kyrgios a couples month back.

I missed today's match. Glad Zverev won, hopefully tomorrow's match will be exciting and Zverev will pose some challenge.

Yesterday Zverev was actually better in first set too which he lost. He was holding serve pretty easily whereas Bautista had couple of nervy games but held on. Even in tiebreak, Sascha was 4-1 ahead at one stage and serving. Lost tiebreak from there. Grass is not his favoured surface but I think he has weapons to be successful on it too and be an all-court player. His net play isn't that good though and forehand can be improved. With better net play, his strong serve will come handy on grass, given his height.

Knew I should have put a bet on Cillic when I said he was one of the favourites the other day. But his form was like terrible beforehand so I was 50/50.

Dimitrov was utter garbage this third set.

Think he's just going to have a career similar to someone like Gasquet tbh.

He suffered yesterday vs. Medvedev who injured his shoulder during the warm up. Medvedev took a medical time out during the warm up and had to spray his shoulder during 2/3 changeovers. He also had to keep a bag of ice on his shoulder.
The odds on Lopez today was unbelievable

Federer's form this week has been a bit worrying, the serve looks decent enough (albeit not at 2015 levels) but his ROS has been terrible and he's been shaky off the ground in general, particularly with the forehand. Considering his forehand was the key to winning in 2012 and was what let him down in 2014/15, it doesn't bode particularly well for Wimbledon. Only positives are that he's still been winning and that Wimbledon being slower than Halle might help. Think Zverev will fancy his chances tomorrow, just hope he can back it up at a slam this time.

Knew I should have saved my 'Fed sucks' post til tonight, that opening game was glorious.

This is really not Zverev's day. Nothing really works. Break for Fed.

EDIT: Correction! A millimeter in! Still playing this game. But still Fed wins with next point. Which was pretty great.

Masterclass from Federer. Was hoping to see a good match, but so it goes I guess.

Zverev's game at the net letting him down again today
It's not that good at the first place yet. His FH needs a lot of work as well. Khachanov looked much better yesterday on the grass. Think grass would be Zverev worst surface considering his style.

I think he's got the game to trouble some good players at Wimbledon but his game is just not rounded enough right now.

Roger Federer never fails to amaze me.... like a BOSS today!! What a performance from the GOAT! Hardly any matches leading up to the grass season - Federer - No Problem!

He'll need couple of years to round off his game. The talent is there he needs to keep focus and work hard.

It will be interesting how the young guns will fare this year.

Kyrgios seems a bit off form now but is always dangerous there. Khachanov has the game and IMO will perform pretty well. Zverev also should go deep provided he gets a good draw.

I think Kyrgios has the best game of them all, but he has other issues. He played without a coach for so long, his brother is his fitness coach. He's had phases where he just didn't work hard.

I'm not sure how Kyrgios will do this year at Wimbledon. Read his granddad passed away a few months ago, which has understandably impacted him quite a bit. I hope he gets it together though.

Cilic will probably go on to lose later now, but think he's a serious contender for Wimbledon this time around. Raonic seems to have dipped off the radar as far as the big servers are concerned.

Aye, Kyrgios will need some work especially mentally. His game is the best out of the lot and if he gets it right he's multiple slam winner and future #1 for me.

He has to cope with those issues and hopefully will.
