Tennis 2015

Murray to face Kyrgios in the first round of the US Open! Wouldn't normally shout my support for Murray from the roof tops, but I really hope he smashes the cocky pr1ck!!

Nadal has Coric in the first round. I can see Coric causing an upset. He's highly rated. Although these days beating Nadal isn't really an upset.

Not a great draw for Murray first up. I mean he should win, and probably will, bit Kyrgios is a dangerous player. Despite being Australian I hope Murray destroys him.

I see Nadal winning that. I don't think Coric has the tools yet to beat Nadal. Nadal has to play real badly to drop 3 sets to an 18 year old.

Is he playing the best tennis of his life?

He was taking the piss yesterday - returning Djokovic's second serve on the half-volley from the service line at one point! he used to toy similarly with the likes of Roddick and Hewitt at the past but to do it to Djokovic and Murray is something else. Really hope he can carry it on to the US Open.

He's only recently started returning serves from the service line as it was something he was doing for fun in practice.

Federer has always played well at the masters in the last few years. It's whether he can do that in a grand slam with 5 sets and of course 7 potential matches too. Besides Wimbledon, he's had quite a few upsets especially on the hard court grand slams to players that he'd usually beat.

You also have to factor in that Djokovic and Murray were tired and could have gone out before they met him at Cincinnati. It was just their opponents Goffin and Dimitrov were too mentally weak to finish the matches off. Federer isn't mentally weak, but he did have the advantage of the extra week off.

*unless it is a match against Rafa :(

Nice draw for Djokovic. Federer's isn't too bad, but he really needed Murray in Djokovic's half to have a chance of winning it I think.

A. Ivanovic out. The bigger shock is Nishikori out in the first round.

Edit: Didn't realise he picked up another injury since he had to pull out of Wimbledon.

Injuries are really hurting him. I imagine he'll drop considerably in the rankings now.

Impressive wins for Djokovic and Nadal. Heather Watson out, though the bigger shame is Sharapova withdrawing last week as that makes it a bit easier for Serena Willams (sigh)

The half volley return was back for Federer in the 2nd set against a helpless Mayer. The old man's looking pretty good.

Kyrgios is fecking mental. Acts like he doesn't care at all on the court.

He could be good if he had the right attitude.

Must be really frustating for him, too. Murray is like a brick wall at the moment.

Have you seen their Head-to-head lately? Doubt it changes much at all to be honest.

Kyrgios is getting to a crucial stage in his career. He's going to have to choose to either work hard or become the next Gael Monfils. Needs to sort his mentality out.

Nadal currently 2 sets up but far from impressive so far

Fognini next for Rafa

big challenge

Yep, didn't watch the whole of his first round match and despite him losing a set, I though be played quite well against Coric. If he beat him it's probably Raonic next, tough matches, but he needs them to see where he's really at.

Decent chance for Murray to break there at 15-40, might have blown it now though.

Yes, Murray gets the break! Hopefully he can go on and take this set now at the very least. Will be a start.

Why do people like Murray? He comes across as very boring - like has has no personality.

He's a bit boring personality wise, but I kinda like him for it. He's fairly modest and comes across as a local lad who's happened to make it big and hasn't particularly been changed by it all that much. He's not really got a superstar persona either. He just feels really normal, in a sense.

Plus, got to root for a fellow Scot, of course.

I'm Scottish too but I just cant get hyped up for him just because he doesn't come across as likeable. Federer, Djokovic, Nadal didn't let success get to them (i.e cocky and don't appreciate the fans) but they still come across as funny and likeable people. Could you imagine how different this video would be with Andy Murray replacing Nadal or Federer?

Murray's still capable of being fairly humorous as well, but he's often been a lot more media shy, even if that's improved in recent years. Someone doesn't necessarily need to be perceived as funny to be likable either.

I was giving funny as an example of a trait a likeable person would have. Another trait would be the ability to smile. I'm sure he is a nice person though but because we don't get any glimpses of his life away from the media I have to judge my opinion on what I see.

Murray has a dry wit, there's quite a few of examples of that, and it's something the tennis circuit will generally vouch for. He's reportedly very popular amongst his peers as a result. Forced 'banter' for the cameras isn't generally his thing (albeit he's had to do it, sadly).

I think a lot of people like Murray because he's real. In a world of faux graciousness and celebrity he remains grounded, flawed (like us all) and really likeable as a result of that kind of normality.

Yes! A struggle, but well done to him.

The old top four going two sets to love down yet coming back to win is so predictable. Against some of the lower guys, at least.

There's just nothing like watching Federer play great tennis.

Hewitt serving for the match against Tomic after battling back from two sets down. Vintage Hewitt, maybe for the last time.
