Tennis 2015

That'd be quite sad if true. Injury basically ruined what he could have achieved then. He's still one of the greats of the game but he could have quite easily surpassed Federer grand slam count had he avoided injuries.

Yeah injuries have played a big part. His style was never built to last though. Personally I think he should try a new coach, get some fresh ideas.

That just doesn't match his personality at all. The guy likes having his bottle in the same place, there was a bit of a shock when he changed racket. Changing coach could equally be the worst thing he could do.

I still have a little bit of hope left for him. He was out injured for most of last year and coming back was always going to be tough and this is not the first time he's been written off. In 2014, he made the Aus Open final and won RG.

Federer was also written off my many (including myself) not too long ago. He hasn't won a Grand Slam for a while and he still may not even get another one, but he's playing at a pretty high level.

Clearly it's still has a long way to go for Rafa but I'm inclined to see how he does in 2016.

Some people were starting to write off Murray last year. He did not beat a top 10 player for more than a year. He dropped down to 10 at some point in the rankings and got embarrassed by Federer in the world tour finals.

If Nadal is to win another grand slam then that serve will need to be improved.

Yeah it doesn't match his personality at all, and I don't expect him to do it. I just think it is what he needs to do. His forehand is not the weapon it once was and I think he needs new ideas.

The Murray situation was a little different I think. Nadal has been back for a while now and hasn't had an injury as severe as Murray's lately. Plus his natural grind style was always going to catch up with him. He might make it back to the top 4 and win another French title, but I don't see him beating Murray or Novak on grass/clay.

Murray does it. Big boost mentally to have finally beaten Djokovic after 8 attempts ahead of the US open.

I watched this last night, great game. Murray was tough mentally to hold his serve in that 20 minute game, that basically decided the match. Still not sure he can keep it together for a 5 setter against Djokovic but he definitely needed to win last night to have any chance at the US Open.

Nadal loses to Lopez. So pissed as I wanted to see Federer vs Nadal as it has been too long.

Murray currently in a tough game against Dimitrov.

Would be interesting to see if current Nadal could still dismiss Federer like he once did.

Surprised the Murrray match is still going. He looked gone when I last saw. Hope he can pull it back but it will be tough.

fecking hell Dimitrov.

He's played well but choking in the crucial moments.

Feel for Dimitrov. He had a break in the second and blew that. Same with the third set.

Surprised Dimitrov is struggling to close it out as he's beaten Murray before. But I expect Murray to close it out.

Ffs Nadal. Didn't watch this one as it was on too late. No. 8 seed for the US open. I don't even think he will, but QF looks like the absolute furthest he can reach

Bit annoying how Nadal keeps losing early and avoiding Federer, that's at least the third time they've missed each other this year. For comparison they played each other 4 times in 2013 aka Fed's annus horribilis with Rafa winning all 4, even at the WTF. That 23-10 could be so different...

Nobody can implode quite like Dimi
I don't know about that, Goffin was up 3-0 with a double break in the third set against Djokovic and ended up losing the set 6-3... That takes some beating.

Murray is not already secured no. 2 for US open, right? The wiki page is not showing him as seeded 2 yet so I guess there is some permutation possible with which Federer can overtake him based on results in Cincinnati masters. Anybody knows what that is?

Either Federer winning the title, or Federer making the final and Murray losing before the semis. I think.

Oki. Murray faces Gasquet in quarters. Slightly tricky. I will prefer Murray to be 2nd seed in US open as I don't want a scenario, at least before the final draw is made, where Murray-Djokovic face each other before final.

Fancy Federer to beat Djokovic. Djokovic has looked tired this week.

Federer looking very good at the moment, doesn't look like he'll be broken anytime soon.

First set Federer, this is almost like what Federer did to Murray at Wimbledon, Djokovic can't do anything to his serve.

Federer's been pretty great all tournament, hasn't dropped his serve or a set and barely even faced any break points. Seems like skipping Montreal was a good call.

Is he playing the best tennis of his life?

He was taking the piss yesterday - returning Djokovic's second serve on the half-volley from the service line at one point! he used to toy similarly with the likes of Roddick and Hewitt at the past but to do it to Djokovic and Murray is something else. Really hope he can carry it on to the US Open.

I think this was a big factor this tournament. His whole service return game was on point. Not to mention his ground strokes which were absolutely ferocious.

It's an interesting question. He says that he is but I am not sure. His footwork and forehand have definitely declined IMO, but I could see the view that the rest of his game has improved. I think the real issue is physicality though. He just doesn't have the physical ability to stay with the absolute top guys over 5 sets. That's no criticism either, just the way it is at 34 or whatever he is.

He's probably the mentally toughest he has ever been right now, seems very chilled and composed.
