Tahith Chong

He has more strings to his bow in comparison to Gomes. Has pace and fantastic dribbling along with an ability to go either side. Playmaker, touch line hugging winger, inverted winger all rolled into one.

Ah fair one. Wasn't really sure as I haven't really watched Chong but I think Gomes seems like a great player

Gomes without question is a fabulous player too. Hopefully we see them both going on tour in the summer.

The most promising young player I've seen in the academy since Ravel, Pogba and co. Hopefully he can stay clear of injuries because he's going all the way imo..
That good, huh? Chances are he has a better head on his shoulders than Ravel.

More talented than Angel Gomes would you say?

He isn't a better attacking prospect than Gomes or Greenwood IMO. Similar levels.

Watching him dribble reminds me of a young Ryan Giggs! Give him a shot Jose!

Am I the only one who can’t help feeling sad that he’s already had an ACL reconstruction at such a young age, every time I think/read about him? Just feels like the poor fecker is living with a ticking time bomb :(
Agreed. It's why I'm not getting drawn into the hype around him. Great player but if he comes good and becomes an important long term first team player after an ACL tear and 9 months out at 17 it would be huge.

Came to write that. So similar.

Will be with the first team in pre-season and after that up to him in pre-season

He's good, isn't he?

Good name, too. And will have a great IG-face on Fifa. Can't wait to play him with Rees Greenwood and Donald Love in career mode. Great faces, good names. The most important attributes on Fifa.

This article sheds light on teenagers who have suffered ACL tears...

Thanks. That’s an interesting read. This bit strikes a cord, personally.

Achieving and maintaining full range of motion after ACL reconstruction is the primary factor for obtaining a good long-term result.

I started playing again without full ROM. Big mistake. That’s probably also why I can’t help feeling negative about Tahith’s prospects from here.

One of his many promising assets seems to be the reading of the flight of the ball and also on the ground, he seems to have the knack of knowing when he can intercept the ball in either case. Something we are actually lacking in our first team squad funnily enough. His positional/spatial awareness are outstanding and knows where the second ball is going to be and is not just in with a chance of getting some sort of touch on it but the ability to take advantage of oppo players by using the angle against them when challenging for the ball either by flicking it over them or into the space on the angle.

Best of luck to you mate, hope you make a full recovery.

This would be a cruel blow if this affects his career to any greater degree. I have been looking at pioneering therapy and one of them looks to be so successful it's almost too good to be true. It works for all ages and someone as young as Tahith would be a prime candidate.

Don't really know about football but in basketball guys have ACL injuries and come back same as before now fairly often.

Great prospect. Skill, pace and awareness. Definitely one to watch.

Bit premature to be suggesting that his prospects don’t look positive.

As you state advances in sports medicine mean long term prospects for athletes is a lot more positive than before

Definitely one for the future. Looks real talent. The best part is that he has not cut down on his speed amidst his physical growth.
Should be on the pre season tour this time around.

The fact that some of our player sometimes look like they dont give a shit, he should make the bench imo.

Would be an excellent attacker to come on against tiring limbs. But I guess we're being cautious due to him coming back from a pretty serious injury.

Were you any good? Serious question mate. I Wonder How many former good players there are on the forum.

Thanks mate but far too late for that! Popped my graft 12 months after the reconstruction and too old/crumbly for another op. No more football for me (which is no great loss to the beautiful game). I’m a little bit more optimistic about Chong after reading that article you shared. Which is the main thing.

I wonder that too but I’m not one of them. Half decent ‘keeper a long time ago. Bang average 5-a-side player after leaving Uni.

I used to be a half decent goalie myself, but that also seems like a long time ago. Less than average outfield player, for sure. I think most goalies are no better than average at best. Surely, though, there has to be some pretty decent or even former top players on here?

Concerning Chong, I do fear a little for his size if playing as a winger. Very few tall players have the necessary explosiveness on the first few yards to be effective on the flanks. Ronaldo and Bale are the exceptions, and even Bale needs a yard or two - not like Lennon who pretty much started at top speed.

When did our academy last produce a good winger?
