Sunderland bid £12m for O'Shea, Gibson & Brown

Via @CaulkinTheTimes
Brown, O'Shea and Gibson held "productive" talks with Sunderland, agreed "broad" personal terms, not had medicals yet.

Will be weird to see Brown in another team than United, but he won't play much here next season so better be sold and enyoy first team football.

still hoping o'shea is staying....please please please..

it is weird to see brown leaving after all these years, but he needs to play some football...a move is not bad for him after all

Yep, I don't actually see all 3 getting much playing time for us anymore. Better just to move on and get a regular game. Weird if all 3 play for Sunderland. That's for sure. We need new fresh blood in our team now if we are to ever beat Barca or teams who are a threat.

Replacing squad players won't get us to Barcelona's level, look at their bench, it's mediocre. But their first 11 is fantastic. That is what we should be revamping (IMO). Especially central midfield.

Put it like this. I don't see how Young and Jones improve our chances of beating Barcelona or the other top teams in Europe

It improves our chances of remaining consistent and using high quality teams throughout the season, therefore also improving our chances of winning enough matches to win the league and combining it with a good CL run. Surely that's the base for everything, before you start thinking about how we'll win in a one-off match or a two legged affair - which might not even occur.

that's exactly how i see it- these signings will help up to clinch no 20 no doubt about it, however i'm not sure if they can help us beat Barca (unless both teams decide to filed second string of players)

Gotta be honest, I am never happy to see any of the 3 in our starting 11 but I will miss having Brown and O'shea about, like both players.

Will be interesting to see the final fee. Will be the only thing that decides whether it's a good or bad decision to let them go. We should be fetching around £20m combined for these 3 in my opinion.

I was replying to a post that said that selling O'shea and them would take us up to that level. Besides, we've always had strong ends to the season

O'shea's been a very good player for us but we wouldn't be selling if there was no reason. To me it's refreshing because it's new territory for us. I trust Sir Alex completely and that's enough to mask any disappointment. I'm sure he knows his shit by now :)

As much as I'm disappointed to be losing these three (especially JOS) I'm excited to see which reserve players are gonna get the call up.

Big John has always been a favorite of mine just to see his jolly grin and his eagerness to do well for the team. Plus he's always a favorite to take the mickey out on: "Oh John..."

Brown I never cared for beyond the fact he was United and Gibson was never going to make it.

They needed playing time.

Is this the first time in recent history that we don't have an Irishman roaming around the starting XI? I can't think of another season where we didn't if Gibson and O'Shea leave..

I will be sad to see all 3 go..

I will miss Brown the most as I liked him the most.. His no nonsense defending is a joy to watch.. He was epic in 07-08 season.. But I think with his age and the likes of Smalling stepping up at CB and Fabio doing the same at RB.. I think its the right time for him to be moved on.. I wouldn't be saying so had he not had that apparent falling out with SAF..

I think Gibson has the potential to be a good midfielder.. At the tender age of 22/23 he has shown that on his day he can be one hell of a player.. The Bayern & Schalke matches in the CL come to mind.. I expect United to put in a buy-back/1st refusal clause in his contract.. SAF hasn't just put up with him for the past few seasons cause he didn't see any "Value" in the market.. He saw true potential.. But Gibbo needs games and the experience that comes with starting week in week out..

O'Shea I must has been one of the most infuriating yet likeable and dependent players we have had.. His lack of superior technique has not affected his chances at united.. His Versatility has lead him to play in literally EVERY position at united.. From Gk to CF.. I think the Jones transfer has more or less sealed his faith.. Jones can occupy a various number of positions and even though I admit that he may not be able to fully replace him.. Its definitely a start.. His arrival will definitely soften the blow of the ageing John O'Shea's departure..

The twins are far too injury prone to risk selling O'Shea, I think. Neither of them seem to be the healthiest, although luckily they are pretty interchangeable as players.

fabio and rafael are all action type of players. and they seem to be just a rash tackle away from being carried off. no doubt about their talent, but o'shea would be the perfect cover for every position at the back, and even in midfield. in a simple way i think we should keep o'shea...

But he can start in the CL final. Hmmm

Kelvin is right, the twins are about as injury prone as they come. I'd like to see stats on how many games where they actually completed the ful 90mins.

If they could sort that issue out then they'll both become top players. I do really like them.

All 3 players should go. They're not good enough to be regulars at United and we have enough cover to compensate.

I wish them well but I certainly wont be too bothered to see them go. We've lost world class players in the past and coped fine.

United should just sign with Sunderland an affiliation agreement with the amount of United players they give them.

Rafael: 36 full games out of 62 starts. He's been subbed off 27 times and came on as a sub 10 times (one time going off injured after coming on as a sub).

Fabio: 10 full games out of 24 starts. He's been subbed off on 14 occassions and came on as a sub 14 times.

I remember Fabio in particular coming off on a stretcher on several occasions when he first started playing for us.

Well that's bullshit, but do carry on.

Yes, we will have to get a full back if O'Shea leaves and preferably someone who will be able to play on both flanks but these are rare. That's why I would prefer to keep O'Shea but if he wants to go, he should be allowed to do so. I still don't get why he would want to move though, just cannot understand it. Surely Sunderland won't offer him more money?

Is there any promising fullback coming from the youth ranks who can provide cover for the Da Silva twins?
