Sunderland bid £12m for O'Shea, Gibson & Brown

Gibson's sale will come back to hunt us big time. All he needed was time and experience playing regularly.
Arghh whatever, just pissed right now. And for so little is an insult to me.

I'd be shocked if he ended up as anything more than a decent mid-table midfielder. He's already 23 and looks distinctly average.

I really, really doubt it.

According to Sky Sports Gibson is about to sign for them.

Gibson set for Sunderland

I wish him the best of luck if he signs for them. While here he did the job required of him when he was needed to step in as cover for injuries or the resting of players etc. He was a decent squad player & certainly not near as bad as a lot have made him out to be.

Gibson has shown very little of anything except an ability to hit the ball fecking hard.

Probably an excellent move for him, think he needed to get away from Old Trafford. He had a couple of brilliant moments for us, but could never produce it on a regular basis and never got the fans on his side. Hopefully he can find a bit of form and have a decent career there - good luck to him.

By all accounts he is a lifelong red and a good lad too, so it's disappointing to see the back of him. There's certainly something a little special about him - he clearly has a tremendous, powerful shot, and his passing range is a lot better than some on here give him credit for. I think it's his lack of input when he's not on the ball that has cost him. I wish the lad well and I'm sure he'll go on to have a great career in the Premier League.

I have been a pretty big critic of Gibson in the past, but wish him all the best. He will be an effective midfielder for a mid table club definitely.

Can see him at Everton down the line for some reason..

Happy enough with Gibson going for £5m. In todays market yet, we could arguably get more, but it is a buyers market there - that is the big difference to when the big clubs go in for "hot property" players and have to pay a massive premium.

Never been a massive Gibson fan anyhow, I dont think he has enough to his game to play for a club like United, especially in a 2-man midfield (which is what we prefer at the moment). No doubt he will look good for a team like Sunderland that may give him a bit more freedom and put him in a more favoured position in a three man midfield, but that doesnt mean he could or would be as effective for us.

Brown I am also not concerned about. Obviously it is sad seeing homegrown players like that leaving the club, especially after Neville and Scholes retiring, but realistically Brown isnt really of value to us anymore, he is too low down in the pecking order to justify a squad place that could be given to a youngster.

O'Shea I would be disappointed to see leave. Utility players like that are always useful, he is consistent and could always do a job in whatever position he was put it. Dont see the benefit of getting rid of him AND Brown.

I think he'll kick on at a club where he'll be a more important figure. He'll inevitably go on a goalscoring run at some point and that'll give him the confidence he needs. But at United he wasn't going to be awarded enough opportunities.

Scholes, Hargreaves and Gibson all gone. The CM options will be very different next year. Exciting times!

Lets hope it's £5m plus add ons, its the in thing when drawing up contracts..

Thats not true though. He's a very good passer and has good vision.

Its probably the right decision considering the talent we have coming up in the youth system, but I do think he'll turn into a very decent premiership player at a top 8 team.

I'm thinking the opposite - that he's not disciplined to enough to consistently carrying himself through games with less skilled players around him.

Cleverly , Pogba and Matt James, then.

And this one isn't too bad considering Hargreaves never played and Gibson played but it was like he never played.

As for Gibson, it's quite clear that in order to get games, and thus develop further as a player he'll need to move on.

As for Brown and O'Shea, they're 31 and 30 respectively. Considering we have Rafael, Fabio, Ferdinand, Vidic, Jones, Smalling, Evans and Evra (8 players) for four positions + Brown's and O'Shea's age, it's hard not to admit they'll struggle to get games, so it would be very reasonable of them to go somewhere else to seize their last few years in football instead of warming the bench.

I reckon he will turn out to be a pretty decent player actually. His passing is badly underrated. Probably one of the best youngsters we have let go in a while.

Having said that it's a good call from Fergie, the team does need to push on and with Gibson leaving and Scholes retiring and Hargreaves out it's almost inevitable we are going to get ourselves some fresh blood in the middle of the park.

Cleverley may come in for Gibson, Hargreaves hardly ever played anyway, so in fact it is only Scholes who needs replacing. That's a big task to do though.

Steve Bruce will attempt to slash *Sunderland’s wage bill – with high-earners Craig Gordon and Steed Malbranque vulnerable in the clear-out.

The Black Cats boss has been told to free up resources so he can afford his eight-man target list - and that means reducing the huge £53.69million the club shell out on player salaries.

Keeper Gordon has a patchy fitness record, while winger Malbranque has one year left on his contract and won’t get another.

Bruce is set to replace Gordon with free-agent ex-Coventry keeper Kieren *Westwood.

The manager has cash to spend after the £20m sale of Jordan Henderson to Liverpool, but he was only on £20,000 a week, a sum that hardly puts a dent in the wage bill.

Bruce will sign *Liverpool striker David Ngog, for a fee of around £4.5m, when he returns from holiday.

He has also made a £12m bid for Manchester United trio John O’Shea, Darron Gibson and Wes Brown.

The Black Cats are also keen on Wigan’s Charles N’Zogbia and two free agents Seb Larsson (Birmingham) and David Vaughan (Blackpool).

Bruce has already lost Bolo Zenden, Sullety Muntari and John Mensah and needs to offload George *McCartney and Nyron Nosworthy, who are also on good deals.

Not much of a update on the actual transfers. But to me it sounds like they're preparing to reduce the wage structure to fit O'Shea & Brown in. :(

I can see the other two going but not O'Shea, would just feel weird.

Don't think Fergie will let O'shea go.

And also its not like O'shea doesn't get games here.He starts and plays quite a lot.

Yeah I really hope O'Shea stays. I don't think United will force him to go, I just think the offer is of an acceptable standard in United's current valuation of him & have left the decision to him.

Well we can hope that's whats happening.

If we are selling Gibson, it's for a reason. There was always the possibility it would happen. I think the club know what they're doing. Perhaps the early retirement of Scholes has cut short Gibsons time here? We've plenty of talented young midfielders here. This season was two backward steps and half a step forward for him.

I still remember Browns debut but he obviously needs regular football and o'shea might find it difficult, especially with Fabio looking confident when he came into the team last season.

I think both Brown and O Shea will leave now or next season. They're not vital enough to keep around for the amount of time Scholes and Giggs have. Great servants to the club, and they have to be respected a lot for that (even though they don't) but it might be time to cash in while they still have a little transfer value, as a lot is being spent this summer. No point in holding onto aging players when we have plenty of young blood to take the mantle.

I reckon Fabio might take over the O Shea utility role. He can play fullback, winger and centre midfield. And he started his career as a forward :p Let's see what he's like in goal

Great shot stopper. Shit dealing with crosses.

I agree on the time and Experience bit (not too fussed about the fee, We always under sell players) I really hope we put in a buy-back clause or 1st refusal clause or whatever..

Urm.. I think your looking at it all wrong mate.. He is average at the age of only 23.. Not many CM's blossom at that age.. It comes with experience.. And for the lack of experience Gibson has had he has done very well.. 2 big games come to mind..

Bayern 2nd leg of the CL QF's and
Schalke 2nd leg of the CL SF's..

Considering that he barely gets a chance in BIG games he has done really well in the ones he has played in..

Don't think Fergie will let O'shea go.

SAF has reportedly accepted the bid.. and it is widely believed to be true. So...
