Sunderland bid £12m for O'Shea, Gibson & Brown

but the rest of his colleagues, nay, the rest of the team on the day got bossed. Gibson was the best United player on the pitch that day

TBF that's like saying Gibson was the shiniest piece of turd in a lineup of pieces of turd. Its still turd.

Gibson will never be good enough for us, good luck to him. As for Brown, he won't get a game next season because of the emergence of Smalling along with the imminent arrival of Jones. O'Shea is an odd one, because he's always reliable and very solid defensively but I guess it's our last chance to sell him at a decent price.

Good luck to Gibbo. Hes shown flashes of his passing ability like against Schalke. Then he goes and gets bossed by Crawleys midfield at OT. Regular games will do him nothing but good.

Playing alongside Carrick in that game.

You know, Gibson reminds me of Anderson, he's had some substandard games against lower caliber teams

Regarding O'Shea. Perhaps one reason SAF would be willing to let him go would be Evans.

With the additions of Jones and Smalling, plus some dodgy form from Johnny, I'm not sure that Evans' future at CB is looking bright. However SAF might see him as being able to fill in at LB and maybe even RB occasionally. We definitely need some back up in those areas and preferably some height, too. Evans is young and United through and through - maybe he will go on and have a JOS-esque career filling in across the defence when needed.

This is muppetry. Evans has done much more than Jones at the highest level for us and Northern Ireland, the fact that he is going through a patch of poor form does not pllace him behind an upstart fresh from a mediocre team.

Jones can serve as the O'shea for now, till he proves otherwise on the pitch

Wtf? Evans' versatility is an asset not a hindrance. Why you've interpreted it as an insult to Evans I don't know. All 3 of our young CBs could have fantastic careers at United.

I've never seen Jones in midfield (or full-back) so I can't make any comment regarding his versatility. With 5 CBs at the club at least 1 will need to provide a fairly regular option in other positions - a role I see Evans' having the qualities to fill and perhaps also being content with.

p.s. Of course Evans has done much more. He's 4 years older. Not that it really has much to do with anything.

its comments like that which annoy me

He did not get bossed by Crawleys midfield, but the rest of his colleagues, nay, the rest of the team on the day got bossed. Gibson was the best United player on the pitch that day

Im sure Smalling was the best player iirc. Granted, United as a whole played pretty poorly, but its not like Gibbo was head and shoulders above everybody else where he did everything right and the rest of his teammates let him down. But even so, thats not saying much for Gibbo.

And this isnt meant as a bashing to Gibbo cos I quite like the lad and wish him all the best and luck. But tbh, hes had a few stinkers for us which im even willing to admit and that crawley game was one of them (more so second half - but again, im not saying its just solely his fault either).

O'Shea is 30 and not a regular for us. He will be very useful for Sunderland and get lots of playing time....when fit.

Unfortunately he has been out for long periods when injured. This may have played into SAF's consideration.

O'Shea got injured this season playing for Ireland. His injury record is pretty damn good.

Interesting that it's only Gibson for now. Should be added that releasing him after the retirement of Scholes surely indicates intention to bring in a midfield (I know, we'd expect it anyway, but still, you can never be sure...).

Gibson rarely plays in important games, when he does he's not as shit as many think. He is a good player in other matches, against average teams. We need him.

Do you know what rotation means?

So who should we sell? Carrick or Fletcher because at the minute with another midfielder on the way we are looking quite crowded in terms of 1st teamers let alone rotation.

Will be a good move for him if it happens. Obviously not good enough for United, but hopefully he can find his level at a mid-table team like Sunderland.

Good luck to Gibson. He was a decent squad player for United for the past few seasons but moving to Sunderland will benefit his career in the long run.

I think Brown will go there aswell, a fresh start might be best for him as he enters the last few years of his career and sitting on the bench (at best) for United is not going to do him any favours.

Gonna miss Brown the most of those three. Been playing in the first team since 98, a true red.

Gibson has always struck me as a bit of a psycho. There's something about his gaze.

All the best though!

Will be sad to see Brown and O'Shea leave if everything goes through.

I'd rather we gave Jones games in midfield, he might be good there. We know that Gibson isn't, at least not as good as we need him to be.

If the rumours are true about Sunderland willing to spend 7 million on Ngog then I'd expect at least that for gibson

Considering Sundrland got £20m for Henderson, Sunderland has done well to get a player of about the same quality for £5m as a replacement.

I don't rate Henderson that highly, but he's a superior player to Gibson. The difference is not £15m, I admit, but that's principally because Henderson is over-priced as opposed to Gibson being under-priced.

If reports are to be believed, Liverpool are getting Charlie Adam for £8m, I'd say Gibson at £3m less is a fair deal. Henderson's price was insane but he has more potential and is younger than Gibson.

In what way is he superior to Gibson?
