Sunderland bid £12m for O'Shea, Gibson & Brown

Oshea, one of my all time faves.

I still can't believe how up in arms people were when he signed an 80 k contract after all of the loyalty and good service he's given us.

I would prefer him to retire at this great club.

I too would like him to stay at the club. Loyalty is fecking rare these days and he's showed plenty of it.

some of our posters are regressing

feckin right they are. Some people have just never appreciated what O'Shea brings to the table. Even in that season he played as first choice at right back when we won the league but got beat by Barca in the final of the CL in Rome he was getting shit week in week out.

feck me - can't you see we're losing some of the older players/getting rid of the dead wood? O'Shea is on what, 70k per week? Getting rid of him makes financial sense as well as giving a younger player the experience e needs, rather than being held back in the reserves.

It's Fergie's long term plan to get the youth in NOW so when he fecks off, these players will be established and the next manager can take over, safe in the knowledge that's he's inherited a cracking, young squad that are used to playing with each other and not having to worry about a lumber 33 year old O'Shea.

Is that simple enough for you? feck me, some people are fecking morons but you've taken it to another level. Well done.

Youth look up to experienced players

O'Shea may not be a regular for PL & CL but he can certainly help younger heads in cup matches which is the foundation for getting the experience with United.

What's the point of offering Neville a contract for the past few seasons then? What about Owen just now? What about Ole back then when he was struggling with injuries to the point when hope was virtually gone? I can go on and on about how we actually tend to hold onto experienced, tenured veterans in our ranks helping the youngsters and giving them whatever support/guidance they need.

And why are you worrying about the next manager at this point? Is it relevant in determining whether to keep the players under our current manager?

And don't start with the name calling bullshit. It's childish and pointless.

Trimming the squad down is the way forward - we're entering a new era.

But people talking about us losing all this 'experience'... Our squad will always be experienced, despite it's youthfulness.

Rio, Vidic, Evra - bags of it
Carrick, Giggs, Park, Nani, Valencia, Fletcher - bags of it
Rooney, Berbatov, Owen - bags of it

Then we have the likes of the twins who have been here a while, Anderson, Smalling, Evans, Chicharito - all growing with the club.

Ashley Young (if he signs) is a full international.
Jones looks the part and people are talking of him being a future captain
de Gea (if he signs) will be the Spanish number 1 in a few years.

Then we can dig deeper and look at Welbeck, Cleverley - successful loan spells in the prem - then we have Tunners, Pogba & Morrison making fantastic progress. This is the future and Fergie sees it. He won't go on for ever, people need to wake up to this.

If he leaves an aging squad - we could be in trouble when he goes. He's not stupid. And if he sees O'Shea/Brown/Gibson (all loyal players, not just O'Shea) as surplus to requirements, who are we to argue?

I agree with Goldern Blunder to an extent, John has served us well and squad players like him and Owen (that don't moan about sitting on the bench) are difficult to find these days.

BUT on the flip side this could be a sign that United mean business and change is needed, as we all saw at Wembley a few Saturdays ago.

 Utter rubbish. Can young players not come in and some older players be retained as well?

As I've already stated I'm not hugely against O'Shea going. What I disagree with is you saying we need to get rid to go to the next level. It's this point you've repeatedly ignored. Did you learn how to debate on the internet from Scholsey and Johnno?

How do you know he is on £70k a week?

A couple of posts up - we have plenty of experience.

Rio, Vidic, Evra - bags of it

Here you are down to it, we would be left with THREE experienced defenders

we are bringing in a new young goalkeeper and have a collection of young defenders, 2 of whom are quite injury prone

Do you not agree its prudent to keep O'Shea another year and see how the others develop?

You could argue that Evans has the experience and the twins. Plus Fergie isn't stupid - Smalling can play at right back, Fletcher can - we're not short of options.

I think selling him would be good for O'Shea - like it was good for Phil Neville & Nicky Butt.

Cast our minds back to 1995 when we got rid of Kanchelskis, Hughes & Ince and brought in the class of 92. That didn't work out as bad as some people thought :)

We're here to debate, not argue. This can be achieved easily by getting our points across in a civil manner.

Personally I will be very sad to see him leave. I have no doubt that we still need him. He goes and we will be down to 3 tested first team fullbacks, of which 2 are inexperienced and injury prone.

Also my thought's. O'Shea is a personal favorit. And for what it's worth I think he's probably one of the most respectable characters in the dressing room. A major disapointment if we sell him.

Put a cheeky bid in for Phil. Gives us good back up and experience. I want to see him back in United's colours.

I seem to remember we had plenty of experience in the squad at that time. Young players like Keane, Sharpe & Giggs had the experience not to mention we still had the likes of Big Pete, Bruce, Pallister, Irwin, McClair & Cantona.

Fergie is a master of mixing youth and experience unlike Chelsea & Arsenal who are overloaded with one or the other.

My point is - we have plenty of experience now, whether O'Shea stays or goes.

And let's be honest, whilst the youngsters will admire O'Shea's loyalty, they're not going to learn much from him./ Harsh but true.

but we dont have plenty of experience at the back. We have THREE if he goes

I'd rather cover all bases and keep JOS for another season then review

They can learn plenty from him on & off the pitch

Remember how long he has been at United. That has to count for something when you are giving advice to the younger players.

O'Shea's been at United all his life. He's a great demonstration to youngsters that you don't even have to be unbelievably talented to make it at a top club, you need to work very hard and be patient. God knows why I'm defending him so much, but he's a great person to learn from for any youngster.

Right, I'm off to bed.

I stand by my point that it's not a mistake to let him go.

If he ends up staying, I'll be cool with it. But I'm not sure the youngsters will learn from him when we have Rio & Vidic to learn from.

My opinion - obviously it's not the popular but I'm sticking to it.

G'night :)

Sometimes I think SAF does what is best for the player, not necessarily the team. JOS has been a loyal servant but faces being marginalised for the remainder of his career with the emergence of the Da Silva's. We have adequate cover and it gives JOS a chance to be a regular first teamer at a good club to play out his career, much like Phil Neville.

Although O'Shea is not a game changer, he must have offered something to have played so many years at a club like United.

I hope you have nightmares about JOS in goal saving penalties in the Champions League Final

We don't have plenty of experience though. Your post highlighted that. If O'Shea goes we have just 3 full backs. 2 of which are extremely injury prone.

Every year the same things get said about United. We have players that "have been there and done it". A player should not be kept on that basis alone but O'Shea still brings plenty to the table. The appearances he racks up every season show us this.

Exactly & 32 appearances in yet another title winning season for us proves that. O'Shea even at 30 is only getting started now, he's loads to offer yet!
