Sunderland bid £12m for O'Shea, Gibson & Brown

Evans has quite often played at left back over the years for us, Sunderland and the national team.

How many wrong-footed full-backs do you get at top clubs? None is my guess. There's Zanetti time and again at Inter Milan but that's that. Evans isn't even a natural full-back, whoever reckons he can do a consistent job in Evra's absence is out of his or her mind

I think we still don't know the identity of the left-back Fergie has his eye on at the moment

Irwin and Lahm are the obvious two that spring to mind.

Evans would be, at most, third choice leftback. Fabio would be Evra's competition/cover, with Evans only coming into the equation if injuries started piling up.

woops just seen Criscito signed for Napoli yesterday... well that's that theres no left-back prospect on the market right now

unless we're buying a 16 or a 36 year old I just don't know how we will provide Evra with some competition

jose enrique?

though that's really not 'prospect'....more first XI.

Zanetti and Lahm make two, for starters.

Er what? Fabio and Evans are right-footed, Evans isn't even a full-back, I mean what kind of a backup is that

We need to get someone out of our hat... Let's go for Criscito

Dear oh dear oh dear...

Don't know which Bayern games you watched this season but Lahm played as a right-back. As for Irwin, if you're going to past generations only to come back with a tally of 2 players, you may as well have stayed there in the first place.

Fabio is right-footed too, so that makes it one valid left-back. And we're talking about Evra who'se had a poor season

In the last four years, since Heinze's departure, we had no left-footed left-back to cover for Evra. We coped fine.

Madrid have Arbeloa to cover for Marcelo and he's right-footed as well.

Lahm's going to be playing left back next season.

And Evans is very two-footed.

That's because Mourinho couldn't get Kolarov last year, Arbeloa is a second choice that may well become third over the summer

 you not knowing that bloke had signed for Napoli was probably the least ridiculous aspect of that post.

i'll have your word on what is and is not ridiculous when it comes to assessing the football game

So the bid has been accepted. Brown & O'Shea are reluctant to joing Sunderland, & the good news being O'Shea doesn't want to leave at all. Gibson on the other hand should join soon.

I don't blame O'Shea at all. I wouldn't want swap a critical squad role at United for a first team place at Sunderland at his age.

It makes sense to sell these players. They'll make that horrible Sunderland defense better. We'd lose some big wages and replace them with younger cheaper ones.
Brown and O'Shea also really need to be the key figures in their team defenses. I don't even need to explain why Gibson should move. He'll end up a better player for it.

12m isn't that unreasonable fee either considering the two cheaper players of the bunch have 1 year left on their contract.

He is 30, probably 3-4 years left at the very top level. If he wants to play more now it's the time to move.

Indeed it's true. And we won't be missing him that much. Altough I don't think this triple-deal thing will go through.

What a strange argument. Has Fabio's status as a right footed player hindered him in any way, shape or form in his career to date? If anything, it's a wonderful attribute having someone who is good going forward that can cut in on his stronger foot.

Selling O'Shea just seems so wrong. He's such good back up and has been a great servant to the club. It just doesn't make sense. In fact none of this seems like something Fergie would do.

Fabio and Rafael, as good as they are, have shown so far that their bodies dont allow them to play game after game in the PL

for that reason alone we should try to keep O'Shea

I'm starting to feel O'Shea might stay. So that's £8 million for Gibson and Brown?

Ah. Everyone begging for Oshea to stay. I'm loving this.
