Sunderland bid £12m for O'Shea, Gibson & Brown

Brown - £4M
O'Shea - £9M
Gibson - £6M

Total: £19M

Would you pay that for any of them? O'Shea is not worth 9m at the age of 30, while Brown at 31.5 has barely played in the last three years and has probably suffered more injuries that starts. I'd say, 2m, 6m and 4m is quite right.

Defenders can play well into their 30's. Sheasy's versatility would be worth 5M alone, let alone 10 years of PL experience which would suit any lower team in the league. Going by today's market prices, a compromise of our two options would be more realistic in all honesty.

The squad average age is falling dramatically... good thing. Only one I'm reluctant to let go is O'Shea. But hey, maybe it's just his time to go and for the twins to shine.

Probably already been said but £12m for Brown, Gibson and OShea is a laughable offer. Outrageous really!

I'd be shocked if OShea and Gibson go; Brown doesn't seem to have a future at United anymore. Pity.

According to the Guardian we accepted the bid but one of the three wants to see if other offers some in. Doesn't make it true of course but .....

Independent says O'Shea isn't sure he wants this particular move and may look for better offers.

O'Shea may be versatile and experienced, but at the end of the day he's nothing more than a mediocare player. I'm not even sure what Brown has got to offer now. With a year remaining on both their contracts, I can't argue with Sunderland's valuation.

According the Independent Brown and Gibson are happy to go to Sunderland, O'Shea wants to see if an offer from another club comes in.

The best he could wish for is Villa or Everton maybe. Highly doubt a better club would go after him... although he would be a good player for Tottenham in my opinion, just doubt that Harry would bite.

I hope O'Shea rejects it a la Solskjaer pre-treble season. Just wouldn't feel right not having him there. He's part of the furniture. Losing Neville, VDS, Scholes and JOS in the same year just isn't right.

If this goes through and we decide to give every former player some applause at OT well be applauding half the fecking sunderland team!

I'm actually on the fence here... I like O'Shea and wouldn't mind that he'd stick around but I wouldn't really lose sleep over him going. He has been a great servant to the club but maybe his time is just up. Younger players are coming in and this also means that Rafael and Fabio will have to step up (not that they haven't shown their talents already).

I think O'Shea is worth £7-8m, Brown around £3m and Gibson around £4-5m. I wish if we end up selling this trio, we will make up the money we are going to spend on Jones.

Who is going to pay 7-9 million for O'Shea? He is what? 30? 31? Great squad player mind.

What has the reaction been like on that Sunderland board that is linked to here now and then?

He could do a decent job for Arsenal actually. Thankfully that will never happen.

Villa or Everton I imagine are the two he's waiting on, unless he fancies Newcastle.

Probably got a bulk buy discount anyway.

Hope O'Shea stays I must say, but I think he'd do a fantastic job for them if he went and if he wants to go, best of luck. Gibson I hope gets to silence a few critics, he's got it in him to be a very good player with regular football, but probably not meant to be with us. Brown's time has probably gone here, but another great servant to the club who I can only wish the best.

They seem to be extremely happy about the O'Shea part, although think it's too good to be true. Gibson has a predictably mixed response, ranging from the likes of, "God no, please god, no" to "decent signing". Don't seem too keen on Brown.

As much as people hate Gibson... We're rather short on first team options and with Scholes and OH gone... Gibson/Fletch/Carrick/Ando/Giggs isn't going to be enough.

Gibson 23, has had CL experience, played in the CL semi finals, did really well and yet people rate him at 4m while the other youngsters who do get a bit of hype are like 12m ++ ? I Don't think we need to sell Gibbo until a worthy offer comes in... Not 3-4M.

FFS, N'Gog who has done feck all was even worth 7m. Gibson should be at least 7m.

exactly what i've been thinking, of the three I think it would be most harmful to our squad to lose Gibson. While he's not always a standout player, hes experienced and offers a couple of good options, especially in a 3 man midfield.

The thing that won us the title last year was our incredible squad depth. I hope this transfer doesn't ruin it.

It's obvious that we need to sign two midfielders this summer if Gibson goes and I actually like that idea. I'm just happy if he goes... I just don't think he's good enough. Maybe worth a bit more than they are offering but not a whole lot. Fergie knows what he's doing.

The massive upside of this sale would be we can finally put a stop on to the debate on whether we think Gibbo is good enough for United.:devil:

o'shea should stay. i cannot imagine him leaving to be honest.he is a very important squad player for us. plus, he is from the youth team set up.

as much i would like to see brown stays, he is 31, 32 and is not playing a lot of games. if he wants to end his career somewhere else, then i will be happy to see him moving. he has been a fantastic servant for us. remember the cross he made for our first goal in the CL final in moscow. and his performances during the 2007/08 season was definitely the highlight of his united career. shame about all the injuries he suffered, he could e a much better player if not for that.

as for gibbo, if we are really going to bring in quality midfielders this summer, then he might be better join another PL side. he is not a bad 5th or 6th choice midfielder to have but if somebody is offering 6 or 7 million for him then i guess it suits everybody for gibbo to move.

for welbeck, if henderson is worth £20million, jones cost us £16million, then our danny is worth at least around that 16 to 20 million bracket. we should not even consider any deal below that value. we can afford to let him out on loan for another season perhaps, so there is no reason why we cannot keep him. loan him out for another season and he should be a much better player in 12 months time.

It was (standard wise) the worst league we played in tha past half a decade and we were lucky not to meet the European big guys earlier (we meet mighty Shalke and an off form Chelsea rather then Real or Barca).

Don't take me wrong, we do have some great individuals in the team. Rio, Nani, Hernandez, Rooney, Vidic etc. On the other hand its clear that a change need to be made and since we're not financed by a sheik it makes sense to get rid of 30 yr old bench warmers and bring in talent who have actually the potential to become better then that. Oshea is the best of the bunch and he's great to have around due to his versatility. On the other hand god knows if he still want to be a utility player. Not to forget that while the defense may not be old, we do have a huge majority of it on their thirties (Vidic is 29, Rio is 32, OShea is 30, Wes is 31 and Evra is 30). You can't really blame SAF for getting rid of the 30 yr olds that aren't first teamers and he is replacing them with younger talent.
The rest of Europe is pretty weak then seeing we've been to 3 CL finals in the last 4 years. 4 straight if that ref in the Bayern game wore a pair of glasses.

Would be a wise move for O'Shea & Brown to go elsewhere at this point of their career. A good example would be Phil Neville who is playing week in week out at Everton.

Barcelona are the only good team we played in the entirety of last season, didn't you get the memo?

Who hasn't won squat in yonks. So it really depends on what they want. If I'm O'Shea, I don't mind contributing what I'm contributing, and collect a couple of medals every season.

For Brown, though...

With the emergence of Da Silva brothers, O'shea may think he would benefit playing somewhere else where he can be first choice. But on the contrary, didnt he just signed a new contract worth like 80k a week ?

Great squad player indeed, precisely why I wouldn't let him go for a few bob. How much would it cost to get similar level of cover for all the positions he can back up adequately?

I love the twins but they always look like they are a hard tackle away from getting injured. No way I would let him go.
