Sunderland bid £12m for O'Shea, Gibson & Brown

I'm not being melodramatic, if they go, we'll survive, and we'll be in contention for major honors this season. But what's the reason for moving him on? To clear up space? We have space. Dead weight? He's done enough (IMO) to fight for a squad role next season.

Pardon me if I have better things to do than watch football all day. He's a good player at Blackburn. O'Shea is a versatile, reliable player that has always done a very solid job, and he has experience. I find it a bit disturbing that some people are eager to move on a player who had a better season than Evra, and has been turning out good performances for us for years, for an unproven defender like Jones.

But continue with the insults.

Are you sure? Then why the best manager in the world hasn't replaced Evra with OShea?

Jones can play CB and DM, mobile and good enough on the ball to play at fullback

Smalling can play CB and looked impressive when tried at RB at the end of the season

Evans can play CB and has played plenty of times at LB

I dont think O'Shea's versatility will be an issue, but I'd perhaps keep him for his experience. These new players need to learn the United way and how to be winners so at least for now I see a role in the likes of O'Shea staying. But if he goes he goes

Blimey. An Ekeke post I'm 100% in agreement with.

If there's anything SAF is good at it's identifying young potential, and judging by the fact that Arsenal, Liverpool and Spuds were him for him too you can bet your arse that this boy is a future star, something JOS has never been. I don't WANT to move on O'Shea but that's football sadly, SAF proved with P Nev that squad players will get moved on when he feels it is time.

Still waiting to see if the story is true though.

Don't you think that Vidic, Rio and Evra provide enough experience to teach the kids how to play the United way?

And, how would this affect our most important success factor; continuity?

We have a lot of winners in our squad still. They've been there, done that and got the medals to prove it. So the remaining experienced players will become the role models now, and most importantly Fergie and his coaching staff are still here.

You've been harking on for the last year about potential mistakes you think SAF has made. It's rich for you to say this now.

So you think that SAF made a mistake in not replacing Evra with OShea am I right?

No which is why I'm hopeful it won't go through. I would be gutted if we let our squad players go, absolutely love O'Shea and Brown!

O Shea still has a part to play, but Brown is finished. Great player but ravaged by injury.

Flip me. How much players do you want us to have. Fergie said about 2 or 3 in, unfortunately some will have to leave.

Just drink a coke and accept it. ;)

That's what I think too, unless OShea wants to leave or United have unearthed another rough gem (bar Jones) that can step in and make a difference.

I agree. But still a bit curious as to whether too many (individually rational) simultaneous changes is a good thing.

Evans will become the new O'shea.

He has a long way to go yet

I wouldn't like to see Sheasy go, those pictures above are some fantastic moments. My favourite O'Shea moment is him charging down the left wing against Newcastle, beating about three men and then smacking a shot against the crossbar which scholesy (think it was him) follows up to finish.

I dont know but it would be better to be safe than sorry. We're already losing multiple big personalities and winners from the dressing room this season, keeping 1 more might make all the difference.

Besides a lot of the squad are younger players now, ideally there would be just as many with lots of experience not just Vidic, Rio and Evra, etc.

still can't understand why sell Sheasy.

We don´t know if, so it's a bit premature to speculate on why.
Reducing the average age of the squad may be an explanation though.
Or, O´Shea wants to end his career with a contract that secures more playing time.

Well, he is only 30! With Scholesy, Nev and VDS (plus Hargo) gone, we need the experience of the other players, especially if grown at the club. I can understand if they accept Gibson-Wes bid, but not O'shea's. It's just nonsense.

sheasy in 2002/2003 was the dogs bollocks.

had everything. what a player.

he is a cult hero of the last 10 years at united. without question.

i know people will say 95 with ince, sparky, and kankan being dumped....

but if we lose vds, gaz, scholes, o'shea, brown all in one summer...that's a lot of united lads that've been here for quite some time. sheer numbers...feels odd.

this won't be the last of the departures too..a couple more from de laet, diouf, bebe, obertan will also leave....and i think berba is gone too.

major surgery being performed on our squad.

Who could we buy for the price we'd get for O'Shea who'd play as many positions as he does and do as good a job as he does?

No-one! O'Shea may not be brilliant in any position, but he plays a few positions to a consistently decent standard and can be trusted at any given time.

Players like that are invaluable and i cannot see Fergie selling him unless he asks to go.

After that season I had him down as our Patrick Vieira. I thought he'd move to the centre and sit deep in midfield and rampage forward.

In that season he would bomb forward and had great tekkers, I can't believe how crap he'd look on the ball in years to come.

Great servant to the club though and I will be sad to see him go.

Bebe won't go anywhere, Obertan will go on loan. Berbatov will stay. He might be unhappy about missing some of the big games but he knows he won't find a better club to be at and Ferguson loves to have him as an option.

Imagine if the same happens to Smalling :nervous:

I agree, and share your concern with regard to the continuity in our squad. I believe that any sale must be considered in relation to the related replacement. Time will tell how the SAF looks at this, and what decisions he thinks are necessary to ensure future success.

hmm i actually want gibson and oshea to stay, they are very useful squad players, and we will need gibson in particular with scholes retiring.

still can't understand why sell Sheasy.

Last chance to get any cash for him and he is only likely to decline now - Fergie will probably give him the choice of staying but tell him he is hardly going to play much. will be up to him if he prefers to play most weeks for the likes of Sunderland or warm our bench - in fact unless we have injuries he wouldnt even be a sub for most matches

I rate O'Shea in terms of the job he does in several positions. He's an unspectacular footballer, but he's solid and does a job in several positions without kicking up a fuss.
