Sunday's gossip

Yes, and the fact that "big-name" signings often already play in the CL (a point against signing for United). And the player and selling clubs is not that willing to sell and weaken themselves at this point in the season either.

Moyes has said that he need at least six world class players in the team to win the CL, so he is certainly looking to add good players. I think that will be in the summer though.

Good point. So, a major overhaul next summer then? Trouble is, it's a world cup year and prices that are already inflated rise even more. Last summer's cock-ups sent a message out that we really don't have the money to spend. Woodward took a lot of flak from us, and rightly so, but my own opinion is that the Glazers gave him a ceiling and he couldn't go any higher. As for these six "world class players" that we supposedly need' what's the budget? If such a player becomes available, he really needs to have his heart set on playing for United because we all know that they big money is concentrated in a few teams like City and Chelsea in England.

Manchester United have been scouting 23-year-old Marseille playmaker Remy Cabella - valued by his club at £100m - ahead of potential January transfer.

Never mind the fact they got the wrong club, that valuation is surely a typo as well.

And many of Baines' goals have come from free kicks and penalties. What's your point?

I wasn't comparing, just pointing out that while Evra is an impressive attacker, I don't think he's very accurate in the final third. He's not much of a goal threat from open play and doesn't produce a good final ball very often. He's great at creating mayhem on the left, though, beating men, etc.

Don't disagree with that.

There's not many full backs that produce this fabled level of productivity - in terms of goals and assists - that sometimes gets discussed on here. Evra's been top class for a number of years at creating space and causing mayhem with runs from deep.

Tbh, I don't really know why you are disagreeing with me. I haven't knocked what Evra contributes, or underrated it as many seem to think. My point was Baines would give us more consistent delivery from that position than Evra does. We saw for England the type of ball im talking about, a top quality early delivery, whipped into the centre on the edge of the six yard box, and the keeper can't get near it. A great chance created for Rooney that a lesser ball simply wouldn't have provided.

I believe Baines has a better quality and more reliable delivery than Evra, whether Evra has comparable stats or not. Stats often seem to clouds issues more than resolve them in my view. How can stats achieved under completely different circumstances, have any relevance upon what Baines could provide for us in far more favourable circumstances? So I just don't see the point of them. I believe we could benefit from Baines delivery on the left as much as we still do with Valencia on the right. Good delivery from both flanks at any given time is surely a good thing. In the end it's down to whether or not you think we would benefit more from reliable quality delivery when it counts, or surging runs, great approach play but a poorer final ball? For me, end product is what it's all about, good end product provides good chances, but anything less than good often creates nothing at all.

Well that's all very encouraging for a Sunday morning - Arsenal and City to fight it out for Lewandowski, Arsenal to sign Benzema, Ronaldo going to play for a sugar daddy, Arsenal favourites for the league according to a class manager after signing a player most of us would kill to have play for us; meanwhile in Manchester United-land: any chance of Rooney's contract being renewed could be about to go down the crapper, and the forgotten man Wilfried Zaha is even losing his U21 place.

Of course it's at least 95% bollocks, but still not great reading

In fairness I think not getting cl football next year poses a bigger threat to rooney not signing a contract rather than a story that has been in all the papers once simply resurfacing

Have to agree with this.... feel a little fed up now.. even though I know its mostly bollox.

I guess this is nothing more than Woodwards PR machine trying to make out that the summer fiasco was more to do with bad fortune as opposed to being cluelss in the transfer market....I remember when Ronaldo went to Madrid...a few weeks later some of the papers were saying that United hoped to buy him back in a year or two so I will take this as a nothing article....I wouldn't be surprised if Bale doesn't make in at Madrid but they will give him 2 seasons at the very least to show what he can do

MANCHESTER UNITED are monitoring Gareth Bale’s form at Real Madrid in the hope of bringing back the Welshman to the Premier League. With Madrid’s president, Florentino Perez, already under pressure for sanctioning Bale’s world- record £85m fee and the player facing criticism from a sceptical Spanish media, United believe a deal may be possible in the close season.
David Moyes and the chief executive, Ed Woodward, made a concerted effort to buy Bale, who started for Real in last night’s 2-1 defeat by Barcelona, in the summer transfer window. The pair moved when they realised Madrid were stalling on the detail of the purchase. United offered to match a bid that would have more than doubled the Old Trafford club’s record transfer spend. Perez finally reached agreement with Tottenham.

What is the point fining clubs who breach FFP? They're already spending too much so what does slapping a fine on top of it achieve? Points deductions and the like would make more sense to me rather than a fine.

That Rooney contract thing reads like something directly from Stretford.

Why wouldn't City do everything to try to get Valdes?

I could swear that just a few weeks back a similar story said he wont sign a new contract because he believed SAF still held a huge influence at the club.
