Summer Transfers

Thing is Varun, every club knows we are in the market for players so everyone we try to sign will be overpriced. Not a lot we can do about that, as Minger says we have not spent much really over the past 4 or 5 years for a club of our stature, so we may just have to bite the bullet and pay a bit more than would be ideal.

Fergie decided against doing that last year, and we paid a heavy price in Europe. I don't think he will make the same mistake this summer. After all transfer kitties are only a means to an end, they are of no real benefit stuck in a bank somewhere. They are only of any worth once they have been used to strengthen the team.

Ofcourse mate, United being interested in a player almost always drives his price up. What i was getting at was that Newcastle are very sound financially and known to drive a tough bargain. Am sure they wouldnt settle for less than 20mil for Cabaye. If we were to spend that much, i'd rather we spent some more and got a Martinez. You know, a player from a tier above Cabaye.

We will sign Eden Hazard and another midfielder and Nathaniel Clyne.

Just my gut feeling though!

We spent about £50m last summer.

We spent about £50m last summer.

You surely know which area i was on about, but fair enough i should have specifically clarified the midfield area, regarding Sneijder, Modric, Sanchez and Nasri.

My point was we may have to spend more than we want to because we are gaining nothing by waiting. We were reluctant to spend on the players mentioned last year and the resulting failure to strengthen our midfield cost us in Europe. Are we getting any better by continually not spending on the midfield year after year? No, so regardless of cost we have to improve that area this summer if we want to move forward.

That's not exactly mega money, especially considering recent transfer revenues.

Nearly half of it was spent on replacing a GK that we could never improve upon. The first XI was not improved.

£50m is not mega money?

feck me!

The teams spending more than that, are running sustainable football clubs.

Actually, we might, by giving the likes of Cleverley and Pogba games.

Every few games we clearly show a lack of quality, today was the defence's turn.

It's not the defence mate, it's the midfield. Usually we have Young and Valencia protecting the full backs and therefore they spend a lot of time occupying midfield. Today we saw Nani not protecting Evra as well as young has done, and Scholes was more exposed in the middle as a result. Only Carrick was doing any marking and he cannot do it all on his own.

Poor protection exposed the defence, and the more they are exposed one on one they will leak chances. We have done it all season in Europe and now this lack of defensive responsibility in the middle may cost us in the PL too.

Jordi Alba, Muniain & a '433 for dummies' book please!

:lol: Might be too little too late now im afraid. but why it is so difficult for us to change formations during games to suit the circumstances is baffling to me.

there was blatantly too much space on the middle, and yet wew never looked to tighten it up once. We could have taken off Rooney or Welbeck and brought on jones, and switched to 3 in the middle. We would have won had we done, bu we didn't and 4-4-2 has again allowed an opponent to trouble our central area.

Evra has been poor overall this season. He's been okay going forward but he's definitely not the player he was two years ago.

It may just be he needs some competition for his place. I certainly think we should look at LBs this summer.

Nathaniel Clyne looks a doable, good value deal.

We will face strong competition for Hazard, but it's clear now we're very interested.

Probably a striker too with Berbatov leaving, no idea who though.

I wouldn't begrudge a signing like hazard if fergie believes he is just too special a talent to let pass, but his TYPE of player shouldn't be our priority for me.

If anything, the fact that fergie sees hazard as being special enough to go for regardless of position is quite exciting in itself, should we get him.

Well first thing I look at is where our squad will be next season in regards in the 25 man rule with the no more than 17 players being non-home grown. We have several players who will no longer be under 21's and space will have to be made for them or they will have to be moved on. Of course it seems Fabio will be loaned out so that eleminates the need to make room on the squad for him, unless we want to name him in case we need to recall him.

I think again we will see a few veterans move on, mostly players who have not played alot for us. If we want to sign any players who qualify as over 21's for next season space will have to be made on the squad.

Overall I think we will again see 3 to 4 players signed. Mostly younger. Position wise, if Berbatov and Owen go, I could see a veteran striker being signed, one who won't mind being 3rd or 4th choice, but who can still provide some quality.

A midfielder will be signed and I think a defender also, to provide some additional depth.

I gave up along time ago trying to name specific players.

M'Bia flirting with United again. He did this last year as well.

"I can see myself playing at Chelsea or Manchester United in the near future, in the next five years to be honest" he said.

We're going to be extremely busy this summer I think. There's a lot going on in and out.

Here's kind of what's possible:-

Completely Out:
Michael Owen
Dimitar Berbatov
Thomas Kuszcak
Ji Sung Park (I think)
Frederico. Veselli

Out On Loan:
Joshua King
Will Keane
Michael Keane
Fabio da Silva
Macheda
Paul Tunnicliffe
Larnell Cole
John Cofie
Scott Wooton
Sam Johnstone
Reece Brown
Oliver Norwood
M. James
Jesse Lingard
Bebe

Staying Put
Paul Scholes
Anderson
Fletcher (if he recovers)
Robbie Brady

Coming Through The Youths/Reserves
Paul Pogba (if he signs)
Zeki Fryers
Davide Petrucci

Coming In
Gaitan or Hazard
Nathaniel Clyne
Javi Martinez
Loucas Mouras da Silva (I know from the inside that we like him)
Possibly a left back unless Fryers given chance to slot in

-----------------David De Gea------------------

--Rafael-----Rio-------Vidic------------Evra-----

----------Martinez--------Cleverly-----------

---Nani---------Hazard------------Moura----

--------------Rooney-----------------

Teams might as well give up if that happens

And our B-team looking something like this -

------------------Lindegaard----------------------

--C.Smalling-----P.Jones--------Evans-----Fryers---

----------Carrick----------Pogba----------------

--Valencia-------Rooney--------Young----------

--------------Wellbeck-----------------------

tbf that would be a fecking strong squad. Strongest we would have in years :drool:

Without going into the reserves etc, my summary of summer signings and sellings...

Definitely Out

Berbatov
One of Owen/Macheda
PIG
Bebe

Possibly leaving/retiring/whatever

Anderson
Park
Rio (or ideally get him to take a pay cut - 100k p/w for a player with fitness problems, in a position we are well stocked in, is a lot of money, especially when you consider the signing I suggest....)
Fletcher (not exactly a sale but I don't think he is going to be able to recover)
Giggs/Scholes (I get the feeling one may decide to call it a day this summer, even if it ends up only being temporary)
Surprise Departure! (think we will see an unexpected sale out of the blue - Evra or Nani perhaps)

Buys!

Modric (ideal for us - can play CM, AM or out wide)
Martinez (CM or CB, which accommodates the Rio comment earlier)

Thats all we need for me. 2 quality players who are natural CMs, but with the flexibility to cover other areas of the pitch as well. IF the Hazard rumours turned out to be true I could see Nani leaving.

I genuinely believe we'll once again neglect to sign a centre midfielder, one of Gaitan or Hazard will be our big money signing and Clyne will be one to bolster the squad. CM will consist of Carrick, Cleverley, Scholes, Giggs, Pogba and Anderson which numbers wise doesn't look bad, only time will tell if the quality is there for another year.....

.

It's perhaps a bit harsh to say Rio has a fitness problem when he has hardly missed a minute of football in 4-5 months - and has been better than in years
