Summer Transfers

no one would spend big money over a 30 yrs old injured centre back, maybe only the shitty

Big money around 20-30 million

His form post lay-off is yet to be seen. Though if Barcelona are continuing to play midfielders in defence they would seem like a likely fit, unless they go for Martinez and play him as a psuedo-CB come playmaker.

M'Bia flirting with United again. He did this last year as well.

"I can see myself playing at Chelsea or Manchester United in the near future, in the next five years to be honest" he said.

If we were to buy anyone from that Marseille defence it'd have to be N'Koulou, M'Bia's brawn with much more in the way of brains.

Who's gonna win the Mats Hummels post-Euros sweepstakes then?

I've heard good things about him, but I know you watch more French footie than I do, what's he like?

Can't say I noticed him for Cameroon at the World Cup nor had I ever watched him play for Monaco, and I've only recently been catching up with French football but he's really impressed. Like another Smalling; authoritative, composed, athletic and reads the game very well for one so young. And he's a very good ball-playing centre back, it's no surprise he played in midfield previously. Second best pass completion % in Ligue Un, obviously it's easier for a centre back to do so but Marseille have used their centre backs as prominent players in the build-up throughout Deschamps' time there and he's a really intelligent ball user. Similar to Rafael Varane in many ways and both are well capable of being top-level defenders.

M.E.N are the masters of muppetry. According to them Gaitan and Hazard are already in the bag.

Oh and we are close to getting Llorente and/or Cavani.

I'm still waiting for Benzema to arrive, it has been three summers now

I think you'd be doing pretty well to get them for £75m.

1.) i dont think we need to sign to many
2.) cleverley anderson and pogba will be expected to be more involved next year.
3.) giggs and scholes (obviousley carrick will stay on)

However, i think we will spend pretty big. Fergie does it every 5 years or so. Veron and Van Nistelrooy. Then ando nani and hargreaves. I think we will se a similar thing this year. 1 big signing (personally i hope that is a proper centre forward) and then two £15-£20m pound young talents.

Although, we didnt spend pretty big last year.

£53 million is big spending in my book, don't let sugar daddy's cloud your view of our own spending. We can't and won't thankfully spend £150 million or more because that's not how we operate as a club.

We will spend well within our means and strengthen the team the best we can.

We'll probably get

a) Clyne
b) an attacking midfielder who can play on the flanks
c) a defensive midfielder (if Fletch doesn't make it)

I won't be surprised if we end up getting someone that's either british/english or playing in the premier league, as opposed to in europe. Having said that, I do expect one muppet signing in the mould of Martinez.

Rodwell, Hoilett and Clyne.

Rodwell, Hoilett and Clyne.

People would be on suicide watch if that happened

I do distinctly remember Fergie saying he won't sign someone for the sake of signing someone if they don't improve our first eleven. Im going to trust in the old geezer and hold him to his word.

Players I see fit for United in particular:

Martinez
Cavani
Benzema
Özil
Goetze

None of those are likely in the slighest.

Its the transfer forum, where no one knows anything and people speculate to their hearts content. Even those claiming to be "ITK" are full of shit. So just have fun and speculate away. That's why we created this place.

Martinez would seem a good fit for us, as would Modric - surprised he isn't being mentioned a bit more given Spurs utter implosion over the last 2 months, and with the uncertainty over 'Arry.

I'm just as interested to see who leaves. I have a gut feeling that we will see at least one surprise departure this summer, for a big fee. Someone like Nani, Evra or even Vidic or Hernandez, depending on the targets Fergie has identified.

Seems obvious Hazard us going to move this summer too, and I think Fergie may feel that he is one of those talents that you HAVE to go for, but I can see us being priced out on that one due to the competition we will face.

Heed these words people, it's what I do everyday.

£53m isn't much really by todays standards, don't kid yourself. It costs £20m to buy anyone nowadays. We spent that on Young, who only had a year left on his contract, same on Jones who hasn't even done anything yet!

Anybody of any real quality will cost between £25 and £35m imo. So your £50m would probably not even buy us the DM and AM many think we need. I would settle for just the DM myself.

On the bright side if what you say about our spending is accurate, i can at least take some consolation that Mourinho won't be coming here anytime soon! Woo hoo!

Based on previous summers in recent years methinks it will be more 'local' talents that SAF will opt for - the likes of Smalling or Jones....

I'd like to see us go for McClean. Purely because he's Irish and united need a bit of Irishness in the squad...
