Summer Transfers

If we let Berbatov and Owen go, as seems likely, will we look to bring in another striker?

Nothing gets the inner muppet going like hunting for a new striker.

Angelo Henriquez. Or if theres truth to the Kagawa rumours, maybe we'd bring him in to play in Rooney's current role at times as well as in midfield or the wing.

Probably. Fergie fecking loves signing new strikers.

Who doesn't? It's also probably the position he has most consistently bought well over the years. He hasn't bought many dud strikers has he? Forlan didn't work out, but he was still a quality player.

He's always had a brilliant eye for strikers. Probably because he used to be one himself. I think that's also part of the reason he accumulates them, like trinkets.

You get the idea that he thinks the attack is the place that needs most freshening up in a team which is why he so frequently buys more forwards, makes sense really. He knows what's needed to freshen up a team and maintain success. Barcelona have done something similar in their most successful period when they've bought Ibrahimovic, Villa and then Sanchez in each of Guardiola's three summers at the club.

Yeah but Barca have had a far better midfield so it makes much more sense for them to do that.

I dont think they've been better for dropping Pedro and bringing in Sanchez either

We could just go back to playing with one striker and negate the need to replace Berba.

It would certainly negate the whole can he play in a 4-4-2 talk over possible midfield signings

Yeah I dont think the plan was for Barcelona to sign Ibrahimovic, Villa and Sanchez and replace one another each season.

Ibrahimovic didnt bring to the table what he has at other clubs, when he played for Barcelona. Villa tried to adapt to a new role and was more successful. And Sanchez has done well individually but Pedro being replaced and having a sharp drop in goalscoring form and Villa being out for a long period... Sanchez hasnt been able to fill in for the both of them at once

I certainly dont think Ibrahimovic and then Villa was anything to do with freshness. But probably Sanchez coming in was.

Any outside chance that we sell hernandez?

Not that I particularly want to, but he IS a somewhat limited player in the role he plays...

Which is probably why he is mostly content to be a supersub. He is a traditional poacher, but if you are going to try and use him to link up play, then he is clearly not good enough.

I am happy enough to keep him though, i don't really know what we gain by getting rid of such an effective goalscorer from the bench, while we have the likes of Diouf, Macheda, Berbatov and Owen contributing feck all between them.

We have plenty of more pressing positions to fill, before we even begin to look at Hernandez's role in my view.

I agree, I was more thinking if one of the European clubs came in with a big offer (£25m+) for him - there are others out there such as Muniain who can play up front and out wide, who we may deem as being a better player for the squad, if the opportunity arose.

Tbh Walrus, that is slightly different!:D Under that scenario, as much as we all love Hernandez, if we had to choose between him and Muniain, then i doubt many would turn down the opportunity to sign such a fantastic young talent, in favour of a likable poacher!

But as things stand Hernandez does a good job for us, and there are other lesser used players who need to be replaced first. For me that would be the easiest way to start to improve, by getting rid of players who are currently offering very little, and replacing them with players who will contribute more often.

out: nani park berba owen pogba tommy k
in: rodwell gaitan eriksen bale

Im sticking with this although if spurs don't make champions league I can see us bringing in modric over eriksen. Plus the Fabio loan to benfica as part of the gaitan deal.

What the absolute feck are you talking about? Why would we get rid of Nani, he's one of the best wingers in the world. Eriksen is shit, Gaitan isn't even half the player Nani is. Modric is a no go and who the feck is Tommy K?

I think it's got to the stage where we have to significantly increase the amount of curry house toilets in FT's tagline! :wenger:

Dude. Chill out. I don't make the decisions. In fact (contrary to popular belief) I have no influence over these matters.

So Portuguese press claim we're interested in Gaitan but source within the club have denied it

Old Trafford dignitaries have been spotted several times at Lille games apparently watching Hazzard

Dortmund say Kagawa is leaving in the summer and going to the PL and we've apparently made an offer

Surely no room in the squad for more than one of them?

I think Hazards going city. As much as I want him at United, I don't think it's likely, especially if we sign Kagawa.

I'm more curious who we are looking at in terms of centre mid wise. Javier Martinez would be a dream signing but I don't think it's likely. Modric? Would be great but would cost a huge amount. Sahin would be ideal as well but I don't think theres any interest. I wouldn't mind Tiote or Fellani, but we definitely need someone to beef up the middle of the park though.
