Summer Transfers

taking into account 'value' i'd like the summer signings to be:-

RB: Clyne
AM: Sessegnon
DM: Martinez

If we are talking "value" then would an enquiry for Nuri Sahin be worthwhile? Has hardly played at all for Madrid, and they're bound to strengthen further as Mourinho goes for Europe next season.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see us sign Martinez, he'd be perfect for us, I just can't see it happening.

My inner Muppet is heading wildly out of control now that it might be cock out season again. My muppet wank intuition is telling me that a good summer of signings would consist of
.....Kagawa.....Baines....1 of - Barkley/Tiote/Strootman.....and possibly Clyne too

I cant see us signing another attacking midfielder to add to that bunch as Carrick, sometimes Kagawa or Cleverley will probably fight it out for a position in midfield along with any defensivish midfield type player that we might sign. Cant see us splashing a fortune on a player like Modric and I think we wont sign any more than 3 or at most 4 new players!! Bye Bye Berbs, Park, Macheda

I don't rate Barkley all that highly. I reckon he's been a bit over hyped like Rodwell, and in the reserves earlier this year Pogba looked a class above. I don't think Tiote is good enough for a top club despite him being excellent for most of the season. I think he's just a bit limited to be a midfielder for us.

For me a good summer would consist of:

Kagawa, seeing as though it looks like it is very likely to happen and the fact that he'll be relatively inexpensive. Hazard would also do nicely, but I'm not that fussed.

From the little I have seen of Strootman (3 games), he seems like a player who is a very good passer, who is also quite physical. I have always thought we need a player in that mould more than a tricky attacking midfielder, so a move for Strootman would suit me, despite my opinion that our top target should be Javi Martinez.

A cover for left back who can push Evra should also be a target. Whether it be Baines, Cissokho, Alba or somebody less expensive and less well known I think Evra need competition. Preferably I would have just played Fabio more, but seeing as he looks as though he is going on loan I reckon we need another left-back.

So how are things shaping-up then based on media speculation/ITKs/other random crap sources so far?

Which important ones have I missed? Hazard must've been liked with some others

So threy only signed him so he could have a go at our physios? Then all our players start falling down like flies.

Mindgames, bloody hell

Agent Hargreaves, mission accomplished. Return to base to present a spying report.

:D

on a similar note....and I'm wondering if this is feasible; Fergie going to watch, say Hazard for instance, knowing full well it would be leapt upon by the media and of course, ciddy, just like the Chav$ did. A short flight, an enquiry with the agent, whilst focusing on the real target? The real target could've even been on view that night or maybe just throw them off. All sorts of stunts have been pulled in the past to recruit players - maybe fergie threw them off the scent. I'm feeling a bit rawkish now  but really.......he can't be so naive as to show his hand when he knows full well he is being watched.

Just a thought.....probably a load of bollox though.

I can't believe Hargreaves has spent the last four years (nearly, wasn't he injured in September 2008) doing nothing and picking up £70k or something on average each week.

I wouldnt say he did nothing. He moaned a lot and made some youtube videos, which was enough to build a fanbase.

If the intention was to sign Hazard and Kagawa I wonder if we'll now go for a different attacking player in place of Hazard.

Modric Kagawa and Powell. You heard it here first.

That's possible. So is Kagawa, Strootman, Powell, Baines

Strootman is apparently in ours' and the Milan clubs sights and will decide after the Euros.

And many, many more that I'm sure I've missed.

Another possible in at Barca is Guiherme Siqueira.

I hope we go for M'Vila.

Barcelona

Likely in: Alba, Neymar (by December is the growing sentiment)
Possibles in: Thiago Silva - 1st option, Martinez - Alternative to 1st
Possibles to leave permanently: Afellay with Dani Alves, Keita & Tello closer to staying rather than leaving due to Tito wanting to keep them

My take on that

Another possible in at Barca is Guiherme Siqueira.

I would love that but I've read nothing recently to suggest there's been much movement on it...I think Siqueira will be the alternative to Alba if Los Che decide to hedge their bets on Alba starting for La Furia Roja at the Euros and bump his transfer fee higher...My guess is that if the transfer isn't completed ahead of the Euros for Alba, Siqueira will reappear on the club's radar

Why would Tello leave? Thought he was highly rated.

Why would Tello leave? Thought he was highly rated.

He's not someone I'd want leaving but he's consistently rumoured to be packaged to bring fees down on other targets...I touched on this in the newb section a year or two ago but there are several youth players that are coming up around the same time and the club is going to have to decide how to use them and not get burned in transfers if they let them go for cheap...Tello was a surprise, his story is actually pretty interesting

Tito apparently confirmed to the sporting director, Zubi, that he counts on Tello (As he should, IMHO) so the more likely scenario is a loan out rather than outright sale - perhaps like Bojan or Romeu...With Villa, Pedro, Cuenca, Alexis, Afellay & Tello there isn't likely to be a lot of minutes for everyone - provided injuries don't pile up like they did this season...I fear Afellay will be the odd one out despite being more versatile than the others (Can play anywhere in midfield or as a winger) since Tello has pace that is hard to replace

A lot of variables that are hard to sort out with Tito now in charge and perhaps Zubi & Rosell a bit more in control of transfers with Pep gone

The end game involves expensive targets like Silva & Neymar and so while there won't be a liquidation, there will be moves to bolster the transfer kitty

My take on that

Thanks for that, interesting stuff. I only really included the Spanish teams as they are generally amongst the big spenders; I obviously didn't put too much work into those sections :D

Slightly depressing that Martinez is considered a back-up option to Barcelona given how much so many of us would kill to have him at United :(

Barcelona would play Martinez as a centre-back, though, whereas we'd use him as a centre-mid.

He'd be played as that Sweeper hybrid Pique plays. In fact having both of them able to do that would be scary.

No, you did a nice job I thought

After Yaya & Busquets were experimented with at CB and then Mascherano cemented a move to CB, the thinking shifted from having to pay a premium for a world class CB and instead hunt down swift DMs

Bielsa has obviously done the same with Javi at Athletic...He's been good there but I don't know how convinced I am of him being a permanent CB...He has a similar problem with the NT unless Del Bosque plays a double pivot, he's rarely going to see any playing time...Now that Puyol is out, wonder if Javi will see time there during the Euros

If he doesn't stay with Athletic and hopefully Silva is bought, I would like to see Javi try the Premiership because I think he has the right attributes to do well as a ball playing DM...Would look good in a United shirt

The thing is, it's hard to say what happens to these Basque players, there's no real precedent in recent times for how Athletic moves players...if at all...I imagine he would prefer to play DM and going to Barcelona would mean one thing, CB...So perhaps his intent on playing DM would help in eliminating Barcelona from the negotiating table...But at this point, it's all conjecture as I doubt there will be any player movements during the Euro from Spain

I wondering if Berba is attracting much interest. I expect a very undervalued fee for him tbh
