Summer Transfers

I wondering if Berba is attracting much interest. I expect a very undervalued fee for him tbh

We missed our chance with Berba. The decision not to sell him last summer will end up costing us about £15M (reduction in transfer fee + wages)

I hope his contribution last season was worth it.

Yep...dont understand why we didn't sell him last year. He obviously wasn't in fergies plans last season unless welbecks form pushed him completely out of contention.

Bob Cass with his usual bs on Sundays..
I could tell you we wouldnt spend 72m on Modric, Tiote and Baines this summer.

I like how he uses quotation marks and then attributes it to 'an old trafford source'
Lazy cnut.

I think I remember some speculation either in the tabloids or on here along the lines of Berba not wanting to leave last summer (possibly due to wages).

£20m for Tiote... Jesus fecking Christ. If we would spend even half of that on him I'd say Fergie has lost it. I'd rather go into next season without a new signing then sign Tiote for... anything.

So all it means then is that Fergie doesn't reckon those players are worth that amount. Got to agree with him. Even though there's no actual quotes.

in modric's case there are not many alternatives around, though i doubt that we would fork out 32m for him .
in the case of tiote and baines, for 20 m i expect us to sign better players.
For example lassana diarra cant be much wose than tiote and would certainly cost less.

Modric would be worth £32 million, the other two are not worth £20 million.

Yes. After the CL final I was sure we'd sell him, and when we didn't, I thought the only explanation was Fergie hedging his bets against the possibility of Welbeck flopping.

But keeping a player of his age, stature and paycheck effectively idle for an entire season while his transfer value plummeted was an odd decision. Not much value there.

Why would we be after Tiote? We aren't looking for a holding player/defensive midfielder

If we were to sign him then obviously Sir Alex is of the same opinion as me, that he's not just a ball winner. £20 million is over the top though

Just another in a long line of weird choices when it comes to us and Berbatov.

Is Bob Cass Fergie's mouthpiece, he leaked out that Sneijders salary story and now he is saying there is no value with buying modric etc..

Jordi Alba should be made official today which will shift focus to a CB and with the club balking at Milan's fee for Silva, alternatives (Vermaelen, Hummels, Javi, Subotic, Lovren & Luiz) are likely going to come into focus now

Alba might go on a fair bit more as Valencia want to keep him till after the Euros where his value is bound to soar.

They would like to but the player is adamant about going back to Barcelona...It'll happen within 24 hrs, local radio & papers have been talking about it

El mundo deportivo say that Llorente isnt even responding to Barcelona's 12 million euro bid

Is this supposed to replace Puyol or Pique ?

Also, is Alves moving this summer ?

Well, the assumption is that Puyol isn't going to play enough minutes and an elite defender is needed to push/rotate with Pique..or Mascherano...Bartra will be part of that rotation too but he's just a pup

Dani is a question mark for some fans, including myself...I hope he stays but there was something very odd about his demeanor at the fan appreciation celebration at the end of the season...He's usually a clown and very, well, Brasilian...He was subdued and had the distinct look of a goodbye - of course, he did have a clavicular fracture too and was in a sling...But, there are whispers that he's being shopped with Montoya being believed to be ready...I hope not

Is Alba a definite then? Or is it just rumours?

You've got no chance of picking Hummels up, very recently signed a new 5 year contract.

The interest and bids are legit, mostly about the fee. But Bayern are interested in Mathhieu and theres no way Valencia would sell both their left backs. Alba is way closer to moving at this point.

I'd say there's zero chance of Alba not playing for Barcelona in the upcoming season, it's just a matter of time...Forgot about Hummels' renewal, yeah he's out of the question

Losing both would be a blow, no doubt...Especially since Mathieu is a valuable squad member/leader...Jose Angel is rumoured to be the replacement for Alba

Angel is first choice at Roma though isnt he? and they pay wages that Valencia couldnt come close to matching, so I very much doubt that one.

Casado from Rayo Vallecano is rumoured and theres also been mention of Didac Villa. but I dont rate him that highly so I hope thats not true.

I wouldn't see that much in his sadness that day, maybe he was affected because of Guardiola.

Maybe and perhaps I'm reading into it too much but compare it to every other trophy or fan celebration day and Dani was over the top with his enthusiasm - it was always good for an amusing gif, in truth...He wasn't even lowkey, he was dysthymic in appearance/affect

Such a shame with Hazard as he can become one of the best in the world. Fergie needed to land a player or two of that calibre this summer to be in with a decent shot of winning the CL again in his time.

Our recent record of securing transfer targets has been shockingly bad. I doubt anyone in top tier football has been rejected as many times in a row for big targets as us.

Benzema
Ozil
Sanchez
Nasri
Sneijder (though he didn't reject us to sign elsewhere)
Hazard

These were all concrete. Any I am missing?

None of the players you listed had any incentive to join us when they could make more money elsewhere. Therefore its not our fault that the deals weren't completed.

Dont think anyone foresaw how quickly and effectively Welbeck would fit in the first team. Dont blame SAF for keeping hold of an experienced striker in case things didnt turn out so rosy. Had he sold Berba and Welbeck wouldnt have turned out so well, he'd be slaughtered for taking risks. Works both ways.

True. But we could have bought a good young striker for the cost of Berba providing the most expensive cover in PL history for one season.

Edit: In fact, we just did - Kagawa.

Wouldnt have solved the huge risk of going into a season with just 1 proven striker though. We didnt need a decent young striker, what we needed was a proven player to cover for the chance that our younger strikers didnt make an immediate impact.

Eh, Chelsea just won the CL with a much worse team and squad than we currently have.

You talk some absolute garbage!

Regarding your Edit.

We can afford to let berba leave without signing another striker because both welbeck and hernandez are a year further along regarding their progress. Kagawa's signing would also point towards a 4-3-3 in quite a few games.

Signing a Kagawa last season when there were doubts about how quickly Welbeck would fit in and whether Hernandez would maintain his 1st season's showing while having to develop his overall game would still have been a great risk.

Berba turned out to be a very expensive back up, Yes, but going into a season with just 1 proven striker + 2 young ones would have been a huge gamble and i dont blame Sir Alex for not taking it.

We all remember how Rooney getting injured during the run in left us short on goals couple of seasons back, Sir Alex didnt want to risk it again, cant blame him for it.
